display and playback problems

so i just got my machine and am starting to set up the software to manage the files.

The first problem that i have is getting a correct resolution to display on my tv. I have a 512 NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500gt video card. The best that i can come up with is 1152x648. all other resolutions seem to either cut off parts of the screen or the image twitches at higher resolutions. I have a 720p HDTV so i would imagine the correct resolution is 1280x720 correct? at this resolution it clips the screen so i cant see some items.

The second problem that i have ran across is setting up my dvd collection. I ripped a dvd using mymovies and anydvd. The movie information appears just fine and everything looks good. The problem i have is when i go to play the movie with the MM GUI it only plays a second or two before going black. If I play it in the smaller vista media center preview pain it plays just fine. I do have to say that just the picture is not displaying, the sound sounds correct.

pc is a hp m8100y vista premium with quad core 2.4GHZ processor, 3.5 gigs of ram, 512 NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500gt video card...that should be all the info needed.

Display is a samsung 50" 720p DLP

the two are connected via HDMI

boyce...thanks for the link....this sounds like the exact same issue. i am stick in the registration process also but once i get past i will post.

so any help with the display problems?

every time I adjust the scaling for the tv the computer crashes and reboots. I did some looking around the Nvidia options and nothing seems to set a good overall resolution. Within the selection i can select a 720p tv but the settings cut off a large amount of the screen.

not sure about the clone or dualview..have to look

the drivers are the latest...

playing back some dvd titles that i added show different results. older wide screen recorded titles seem to have a large black border on all sizes...switch to a newer widescreen it shows correctly fully wide but a little stretched.
