The ones that don't come in give a "771 Searching for Satellite 1" code. The installer didn't seem to know why and suggested I call DirecTV. When I called, they had me reset the receiver and after the reset, more of the new HD channels started coming in. In fact, all except two of them. Later in the week, even those two came in, so I cancelled a service call. Now, I find that very few of the new HD channels are coming in tonight. Anybody else had this issue. I wonder if it's one of the BBCs is bad, so only one of the tuners is working making it sporadic. Or, is it that one of the coax cables coming down from the dish has the combiner/splitter for my roof antenna in the circuit?

Any suggestions before I call DirecTV again?

I had (have) the same problem. Called D* for service & they replaced the multi-switch & checked dish alignment and coax connections. It worked for a while, but the problem still occurs intermittently, shutting down over 20 channels including food, hgtv & mgm. When the problem occurs, satellite 99b shows zero signal strength on the odd # transponders. I don't have a rooftop antenna combined with my dish coax. The problem could be a bad cable; someone suggested switching cables at the dish but not being a great rooftop scrambler, I won't do that on my own. Guess it's time for another service call.

anyone out there using a digital coax to their AVR instead of optical.. I just switched mine from optical to coax and now I get static when sound is coming back from a commercial... crackling noise for a second.. is anyone else getting this?

The national release for the HR20-100 just went to 0x1be today. Owners of 100's should all get this software by tomorrow (or sooner if you force it). For once, the 100's are ahead of the 700's.

You could switch the cables at the DVR and provide the same test. Check to see which satellite tuner is having trouble first. If it's both tuners, then the problem is most likely not a cable and could be a LNB.

How does one force a software update? I did not see it mentioned in the manual. I have an HR-21-700 just installed on Monday.
Thanks,
Mark

What did we get with this new update for the 100's?
I'm using a coax digital audio output on my HR20-100. It works fine. Probably the biggest change on the new software is VOD via Internet connection access.

From post #118:
to force an update: restart recorder and @ the "hello" screen press 0 2 4 6 8 and it should "find new software" before it goes to the "step 1 of 2".

Video on Demand when activated by D* for one thing.

It's "not right". I don't know if it's not mounted correctly [assembly problem] or a defective drive.

Is anybody having problems ordering pay per view movies thru the 100? I haven't been able to for weeks and D* doesn't seem interested in fixing it. Any suggestions, it tells me my phone is not working but I know it is with the onboard test and caller ID. If I go to the website it tells me my card is full and I can't even order thru that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks VOS! You're the best! When I got home today, I checked and saw that the most recent software had been loaded last night.

Drastic but: if you don't have any recordings you want to save. Go into the setup menu and reset/reset everything.
It will return the receiver back to "out of the box" state but keep the latest software.

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping I will not have to do that but it's looking more like I will. Lot of good movies I don't want to lose. Thanks again.

I really like the RF better on the 700 than my quiet as a mouse 100 so I am hesitant to re-swap them in the house. The 100 is now just being used on a single TV downstairs and is IR - but I needed the Coax output, if I switched the receivers I could work around the audio out issue (I found my old toslink-coax converter) and have a silent bedroom, but then my RF setup would resume being bad again. Any suggestions for muuffling the sound - I though about padding the device with foam or something, but It may smother the 700.

UPDATE:
I got DTV to swap my loud 700 refurb with a NEW one, it worked like a charm, quiet as a mouse.

Our HR20s have been very stable except for 2 things:
1) receives low signal strengths(50s) on sat 110 on tuner 2 only(tuner 1 in 90s)
2) HR20-100s can't receive ota low VHF digital channel 2(our NBC).

Thanks for the opportunity.

The one thing that continues to drive me up the wall is the supercrop bug. Please tell her this is a major annoyance that hasn't been fixed in several software updates.

Whenever my power goes out. It sometimes goes out for one reason or another, and then quickly goes back on. When this happens, my Receiver restarts, but then I lose all the new HD chanels that come from the newer satellite. It is weird. Have no idea why this happens. I used to have the coaxial cable running through a Monster clean power surge protecter. The first time this happened, I bypassed the surge protecter plugging it directly into the receiver, and bam, it recognized the new satellite and all the channels worked. The second time this happened, I was not going through the surge protector, but again when the receiver estarted, I lost the new satellite channels. An hour later the power went off and then kicked back on, the receiver powered up, and now I DO have all the channels again. Anybody else have this issue???

I have not had that happen, If I were in your shoes and had an extra $40 or so, I'd invest in a UPS (Uninterupted Power Source) that would alleviate any reboots at all unless you lost power for more than 30min or so...

I have two new HR21-700's installed last week. I get the 771searching for sat 1 message occasionaly. It will also say sat 2 in sometimes. For me the quick fix is to tune in to a non HD channel for a second they go back to the HD channel and BAM there it is. So I know its not a Dish alignment problem. Has to be mulitswitch ,cable or reciever problem.

I would agree.
How long are your cable runs?
Any loose connections?
While dish "alignment" isn't it, there is a multi-switch in the dish/LNB assembly.
Then there are those darn BBCs.

I just noticed the supercrop bug for the first time today. Previously I had been successful at using Format to Crop to have SD letterboxing fill the full screen for digitizing/DVDs.

Any solution to this problem yet?

Removing my diplexer for OTA antenna solved this problem for me on two receivers (I use a separate coax feed for the OTA antenna on our main tv, and it avoids the BBC problem on that TV).

Solution? no
A menu reset/restart recorder will "make it go away" [for a while].

SuperCrop problem: Luckily I was able to digitize the SD Letterboxed version of Legally Blonde, the Musical off MTV without any problem. But I notice it sporadically now...
