It started automatically, to re-boot my box you have to pull the power plug, no other method has ever worked. It's DL'ing 0290 right now.

What concerns me is that after doing a re-boot earlier to fix the frozen box syndrome, turning it back "on" to attempt this update the box was non-responsive, had to pull the plug, and that's when it started the update. I hope it works right when the update is done - having to pull the power plug every time I want to use it is a bit, huh, inconvenient.

Once downloaded I got a message from D*. It says this software now allows for 1080P and that 1080P movies are coming soon.

While nothing was mentioned in the message, my guide is faster. Anyone else notice this?

A reboot normally speeds things up [for a bit].
The version has been under test for over a month now, so "hopefully" it works better than what you've had before.

I am finally gettingmy second HDTV and need to get another DVR. It has been so long, I don't know the best way to get one. Will DTV send you one for free if you call and talk to them. If not where is the best place to buy one.

Thanks

Since the update earlier none of the movies will play that are saved.
I DO have an external estata drive. If I record a new show it works, but the hours of saved movies will not play.

My other HR20 without an estata drive is fine.

Has anyone with an external drive had this issue?

I did a reset but that did not help.

needing to pull the power cord, isn't a good sign. While "sometimes" it needs to be done, it should never become "the only way". Your call, but "I'd be looking for a new receiver" if I had to do that "all the time".

Yeah, been that way since I got it, been putting off having to deal with it, not sure what I may end up with.

My living room unit booted into 290 an hour ago, but I have not yet watched it, and the movie room where I am is DL'ing now
post #3100 of 5970
funny thing is, both units rebooted at about 5:30... is that a 'clean boot' to be ready for the update?

I went to change channels and noticed that only the channel I was tuned to showed up in my guide. I switched to "Channels I Get" and it populated the guide. Upon close inspection, I found out that my Custom list that I meticulously whittled down to the essentials is gone!

According to my wife, the system automatically re-booted today but for some reason, my favorites list went with it.

I'm using an external drive, so I'm going to try re-booting with the internal to see if it restores my favorites list and then going to switch back to my external. We'll see what happens.

Anyone else have any ideas regarding how to recover the favorites list?

Probably the worst part is that I went through the trouble of making a spreadsheet indicating all channels available and which of those were included in my favorites list. Now I can't find it...don't ask!

Thanks!

ok, first impression is that audio/video sync is much metter... we'll see if it creeps over time... that alone is wonderful to me... will explore more later

2 HR-20's

Just got the 0290 update a half hour ago or so. I noticed the guide moves much faster now and more responsive. Big improvement on that alone.

0x290 Just downloaded on my HR21. I got home 30 min ago and the unit would not turn on. Had to hard reboot it. When it came up, told me I had an update so downloaded it.

1. Guide is a lot faster! Whoo Hoo.
2. 1080p is supported. Go to Menu, Setup, HDTV to select that format.
3. Menu is a bit more stylish. Channels that I do not recieve are "greyed" out all the way across the bar which is nice.
No instructions on the 1080p. I can select it and uncheck everything else, but the TV stays at 1080i. It said you can't select it from the "Format" button on the remote. If not, how is it selected?

We gonna get some instructions on this somewhere? I'd sure like to know what else has been enhanced or fixed.

Just got upgraded to 0x290 on my HR22-100. I can see now a new option under Network, 'Network Services'. Options are Automatic or Manual, then you can set STB Services Port and Audio Services Port to a port number in the range of 27161-27192. Either automatic or manual using the 'Connect Now' button said Failed.

However under Info & Test is shows
STB Services Port: N/A (450) with a yellow triangle exclamation point.
Status: -
Audio Service Port: -

Ok - in the middle of writing this post, I tried again and is started the services successfully and the Info & Test shows

STB Services Port: 27180
Status: 5001
Audio Service Port: 27190

Port numbers do match what I specified for the manual settings.

So - now back to my real question. What are these ports used for? Tried http on them and got a blank page for STB and reset for Audio.

The HR-20 showed up as a media server on my PS3 after the upgrade...
DirecTV should make their PC app available via bit-torrent, DL'ing 35mb at 20kb/s is ridiculous. Probably someone will very soon.
You are lucky that's all you lost, I had 15 movies recorded and they are gone. DTV says they might come back tomorrow????

There is no 1080p broadcast media yet, hence nothing being displayed in 1080p.

I hope this update fixes all my reboot issues I've been having the last three weeks.

Well this is great. I had my HR20-100 set to only show 1080i. I when to choose the 1080p option as well, as my TV supports it. Now, I only get 480p! I even tried selecting just 720p, but it stays "stuck" at 480p. No amount of mashing on mashing on the RES button works either. Nice! I also unselected 1080p, but still "stuck" on 480p.

I had this problem, too. I think I hit the "Res" button and the "right arrow" (next to the big circle), then the "res" button again, and it switched to 1080i again.
Nope, still no good. When I select 1080i and then choose 720p, I can see the blue light at the 720p resolution flash, but the box goes right back to 480p. I have the box set to Native Off, 1080i only, so it shouldn't even TRY to go into 480p. I can't try rebooting now as I am recording some shows. My suggestion right now? STAY AWAY FROM SELECTING 1080P until you know a 1080p movie is available!

Quick question: do these support firewire output?

I'm pretty close to dumping cable for DTV but this is an important feature for me.
I have been searching through the forums, but can't seem to find a solution. Is there a way to pull off what I recorded (episode of Big Bang Theory) and put onto a portable media device?
Tried to turn on my HR21-200 tonight, not responsive, though I could hear the HDD spinning inside. Yanked the power cord, waited 30 seconds, put it back in, started up, 2 minutes later I get the notice of new software. Downloading 0290 now (acutally been stuck at 97% for a while). Anyway, are there release notes anywhere that explain what changed?
My hunch is the 1080P is not 1080P/60, it's /24. I have a Westinghouse LVM-47W1 which does 1080P/60 on PS3 and PC, but won't do 1080P for the HR-20. The PS3 seeing the HR-20 is great, but the media format isn't supported by the PS3 so you can just browse the titles, but not actually play any content.
I had to do a RBR and re do the Satellite setup, but OTA returned and I got my 1080i back. Also, the 1080p offered is 1080p/24, as noted on DBSTalk.
I got home and the lights on the front of the HR20-100 were off, but I could hear the hard drive. No response to remote. No response when pushing reset button. No change if unplugged and plugged back in, still dead. Tried unplugging a second time and it booted but froze at 97%. Unplugged and plugged in again and it booted, stopped at 74%, screen went blank and then a message saying Rebuilding Scheduler, then blank and then a message Service not Active (but I could play my recordings). Called DTV, they had a recording that indicated the non-response problem is widespread and to do either a red button reset or unplug and plug back in after 60 seconds. Did a red button reset. Stopped somewhere before 74%, said Rebuilding Scheduler, blank screen for a few seconds, then it worked.

After about three minutes, message at bottom right saying that a download is available. I selected download now and almost immediately told myself that was dumb. Then screen said New Software Found (0290), and a progress bar as it downloaded (If it hadn't already downloaded the new software, why was it already screwed up?).

Download completed in about 5-10 minutes, then DVR rebooted. Now it works. That's how I sent my evening.

This 0290 better be good. I think DTV owes me some free PPV coupons.

I guess the DirecTV2PC app requires some pretty hefty hardware, I'm running an Athlon 64-3800+/3GB RAM/Nvidia 8600 vid card and it's too jerky to be of any use. I'm guessing it's because the content is MPEG4? My vid-card doesn't do MPEG4 AFAIK and it's swamping the CPU. Works fine with with cable-MPEG2-HD content.
