Anyone having serious lipsync issues with there HR22?
I'm having this problem, but it mostly seems to be on HD channels.
Now what?

I have accessed video on demand. The only reference to 1080P programming I see is the "Hulk" trailer.

How are you guys knowing "before download" what's 1080P and just plain ole HiDef
post #3303 of 5970
Just picked up an HR22 this evening, got it all hooked up, card activated etc.

Now I'm watching TV, and the response time of the remote when pressing Guide or scrolling through channels seems SUPER slow compared to my H23 receiver. Anyone else noticed this issue?

My receiver did download the latest firmware the 2nd time it started up.

At the moment, there is no other 1080p content in the Video On Demand catalog. When there is, it will be labeled as 1080p.

DVRs are slower than non DVRs. There simply is more going on "in the box". It may pickup "some speed" as time goes on and the background [house keeping] processes catch up.

I've seen just one post on this thread about 3 weeks ago asking if anyone had info on DirecTV newest HD DVR, the HR23-700. No responses here.

DBSTalk has a wonderful "First Glimpse" thread, complete with an 8-page PDF. Several testers evaluated the new DVR and compared it to the HR22. The results were significant. With no external BBCs, problems associated with them disappeared. Video quality with what is believed to be a new chip was seen to be better by the testers. Also, the audio quality and higher level was now equal to other brands of DVRs. Why it came on the heels of the HR22 release is an enigma.

As has been stated many times, ordering an HD DVR from DirecTV and specifying which model you want, will do no good. You need to purchase the DVR from a dealer who has them in stock. They are just now starting to trickle in. No official price yet, but the $199 figure has started to circulate. For me, I'm waiting, even if it's several more weeks.

Sorry if this is a repeat question (I searched this thread, but couldn't find anything -- could be my search terms, though).

I just bought a second HDTV and would like a second HD-DVR. The web site quotes 199.00 but when I called customer service, they offered me one for 99.00. I wanted to think about that but about two weeks later I called back, ready to pay the latter amount. Now they say that I'm not eligible for the 99.00 deal any longer.

As a former Dish customer (they're calling me every day now), I'm thinking of going for their "come back" deal, if it includes two HD-DVRs. I've been with Directv now for 18 months out of a 24 month commitment; anyone know what their early cancellation policy is? The website is kind of nebulous. Also, has anyone gotten a better deal than 99.00 on a second HD-DVR upgrade? How???

Thanks!

Sounds like a call back and play CSR roulette.
DirecTV should be happy to set you up for another 2 years.
Be "nice" and if you don't hear what you want, simply call again. I'm not sure you'd beat the $99, and even if they don't match it again, they can offset some of the costs with program package discounts.

Well crap, I just bought an HR22 last night from Best Buy, and have already activated the card. Is it possible to return it and get an HR23 when they get them?
I have an HR20-100 and started noticing that some channels would say searching for satellite. So I checked my tuners and tuner 2 says some transponders are at 0 on the 101 satellite location. The strange thing is if I reset the receiver while tuned to one of the channels that says searching for SAT Tuner 2 starts working again on 101. Now here is another interesting find. If I tune to channels on 101, 110 or 119 then Tuner 2 keeps working on all transponders. As soon as I tune to an HD channel on 103 or 99 tuner 2 transponders on 101 drop to 0 on a number of transponders. I tried swapping the two input feeds but its always tuner 2 that screws up on 101. I can also get tuner 2 to start working again by removing the SAT cable and plugging it back in. I really think this problem is a software issue since if i continue using SAT 101, 110 and 119 only both tuners keep working fine indefinitely. Its only when I tune to an HD channel that Tuner 2 screws up on SAT 101. Thoughts anyone?

Where do you find the 1080P Hulk trailer?
I think that this latest software upgrade, 0X020, has definitely affected the sensitivity of the DVR to the BBCs for whatever reason as too many people are having the same problems (can't tune into Channels on Odd Transponders on Sat 101 on Tuner 2) and some people have 2HR2Xs and they both started experiencing the same problems at the same time when they received the new software upgrade.

No, once a receiver is activated, you can only return it to DIRECTV.

The Hulk trailer was found online...searching VoD portion of DirecTV's website. I believe it was under the 'T's .

Its just a minute trailer, but does come out of the HR22 as 1080P24fps, which I'm happy to say my Sammy DLP read just fine.

Cool thing is, when you find it on the website, you can select record to receiver and pic the DVR you want it on...I did, and by the time I got a beer and sat on the couch it was there!!!

Sweet stuff.

Thanks for the tip. That was not easy to find! But yes, search in the "T" section of the website VOD listings for "Test your 1080P with the Hulk."

Well, that 1080P trailer loaded nice and fast. That was the first 1080P content I've seen on my tv since I bought it in May. I am waiting on Blu-Ray to see if D*s service takes off (or if the format looks to survive, or if players become more affordable). I would be pretty excited to see some good titles on 1080P PPV, depending on the pricing and availability.

I have an HR21 and a 1080p LCD DLP TV. Should I 1> tag all five resolutions and Native on, 2> tag just 1080p on and Native off, or 3> something else? to get the best PQ?

much thanks

Is there a way when doing searches to only get results from channels you receive?
I just got this HR22 installed to replace my HR10-250 TiVo and this is really bugging me. The TiVo searched through channels I received (not just my 'favorite' channels) which is exactly what I want. This new HR22 however searches all channels so I contantly get results for shows on channels that I don't even get (adult shows, east coast channels, etc.).

I tried to remove channels from my "channels I get" list but this list is unmodifyable, only the custom lists can be modified). I have set up a favorite channels list (custom1).

Am I jumping the gun? Is this a glitch in an old software version that hasn't had a chance to update to my unit yet? Or am I stuck with a lame search function?

So how do you run DirecTV2PC on your PC?

I installed the app last night and did a check on my computer. It found a few things that are recommended to upgrade, but otherwise I pass.

But now I don't know how to use the system.

Anybody used it yet?

Update:
Well I guess for some reason my installation was botched last night. I went back and reinstalled tonight and it worked like a charm. To bad the OSD wasn't as quick as it is on the PC.

I am running your average everyday laptop and it runs my SD programs fine, but the HD is very lacking. The picture quality is awesome on HD. Well it's not HD, but I am sitting 15" away from a 15" screen. LOL Anwyway, I think this is a cool feature. I can imagine that football fans will enjoy this when they are in the garage watching the game! Just record your SD feed of the game and you'll be in businss.

Yes. Wife and I watched a recording of Fringe last night night...and it was pretty bad. Never had the problem with Tivo-base receivers.

A quick search of web shows LOTS of people have been suffering with this for a long time. Synchronization of video/audio is so fundamentally important...if this doesn't resolve itself I'm going to have to find a new provider.

No way this boy is going spend $100+ in the 21st century to not have video and voice time-aligned.

For me, its HDMI to Samsung DLP and COAX digital to HK7200

In two years, I think I've had sync issues with maybe two programs, so I'm not sure where those "lots of people" are.

I think it's safe to say that there are "lots of people" that have had or are having audio sync issues with the HR2x series DVR. There have been many many threads and hundreds (maybe thousands) of posts over at the DBSTalk forums regarding audio sync issues. Do a search on sync in the Directv HD DVR section and it will keep you busy for a long time reading the discussion. I can also say from personal experience as the owner of (2) HR20 units and the previous owner of one of the original HR10-250 Tivo unit that there has been siginificantly more audio sync issues with the HR2x units than the Tivo. It is possible that most of problems are with the mpeg-4 stuff that the Tivo can't receive. I don't know if it is Directv's "fault" or not but I think it's safe to say that audio sync problems are negatively impacting a large number of HR2x users. BTW I use component video and optical audio to Onkyo 898 and HK AVR240 AV receivers with both the HR20 and HR10-250 units so the sync issue is not just with HDMI.

If you "search over there" you might see a few of my 15,000+ posts.
Yes, I'm aware of what's posted there.
It also doesn't seem [IMO] to be as widespread as you seem to think.
I watch more MPEG-4 than MPEG-2, use HDMI and haven't seen this but "a few" times.
Your AV amp has "some time delay" settings correct?

I am aware of your major contributions in the other forum. I was mostly letting avsforum members that there is a large amount of discussion on the sync problem "over there". Yes both my AV recievers have time delay settings. However sometimes the sync problem is so bad that even the maximum correction isn't enough and usually the show (or portion of the show) is unwatchable as a result. Other times the audio and video are only slightly out of sync. Also adjusting the delay on a show by show channel by channel basis is not really an ideal solution. I'll admit that the "sync problem" with the Directv HD DVRs is not as bad or widespread as it used to be. The problem is that there seems to be no one single cause for the sync issues making it difficult to "fix".

What would help is if there was any way to collect data on what channels/programs/receivers were doing this. Then try to compare them to others that don't have the problem.
It's hard to help if you don't have the problem to start with.

I've got the same problem. FOX News HD, for instance will not tune on Tuner 2. I need to trick it by recording something else on Tuner 2.
