gday guys,
first post! well i'm going to get an xbox 360, and a new TV with it too. well after my uni exams anyway -_-. i've done a lot of reading, lots of research and posted in heaps of australian forums but there are still a couple of questions i have. avsforum seemed to be the ideal place to clear this more technical stuff up.
basically, i'm getting my TV for 4 things (native res in brackets):
-xbox (720p)
-australian HDTV (1080i)
-DVDs (480p)
-media centre on xbox (?)
i'm looking at a 40-42" LCD TV. for this size and for my purposes, should i bother with 1080p? specifically:
1) does xbox 360 upscaled to 1080p on a 1080 display look better than 720p on a 720 display? i have heard many conflicting things - some say that the extra resolution means less effects, AA and frame rate, others swear that it looks much better.
2) does 1080i HDTV look much better on a 1080p screen than a 720p screen? i'm not sure on this, cause the number (1080) would be the same but i'm not sure about the interlacing and how that is handled.
i'm thinking of a 720p screen at the moment simply due to the size of my screen, and the fact that i sit 6-8 feet away from it. my current leaning is that a high quality 720p screen will be a good option. any suggestions?
thanks for much for any help fellas.
