What they could have/should have done maybe instead of $99, was 2 for the price of 1 @$198 and you'd also double the movie uptake.
Everyone was blown away how cheap they were at $198, so give people 2 machines and they replace both their old players or give 1 away as a gift to help further spread the gospel

I'm a Blu-ray only guy and I'm seriously considering this A2 for 99 bucks tommorow, if for no other reason for better upconverting of DVD. I'm just a lil peeved that I have a meeting tommorow at 9 so I'm not sure if I have enough time to be at Walmart and buy and get to my meeting in time, not to mention I still need to run it by the wife.

While you guys are there buying these A2's, dont for get to pick up a few titles at $14.96.

I wonder if the 60 we're getting have arrived yet....hmm.
I'll call in an hour and see if my friend is at work already so I can have him check it out on the computer.

I find it kind of strange that they don't clearly say on there "limit 1 per customer". For those familiar with these sales, is that the general rule?

Any guesses on the chances that Circuit or Best buy will price match?

2 players @ 98.87 ea = 197.74 ( 2 for less than the price of 1)

What's really funny is that on Friday there will actually be fighting between HD DVD supporters and blu-ray supporters on the way to grab $99 HD DVD players! Blu-Ray will now be bleeding exclusive consumer support big time. With Transformers HD DVDs out there and $99 HD DVD players out there, there's a problem for BD. Sony to Houston - we have a problem! The $199 Chinese player just got undercut - Where's the $99 Panasonic or Pioneer? These companies must be really upset - no profit whatsoever for them in this HD optical disc war. $99 is going to be the de facto price very soon, whether anyone likes it or not. The HD world has changed markedly in the consumers favour. There are some heavy posters on this forum (BD supporters - bandwidth guys) who have been conspiciously absent lately - maybe they got a heads up!

Not one post by thebland yet saying price doesn't matter.

Blu-Ray's problems lies on Sony's shoulders - original releases with excellent PQ with aggressively priced players would have won the war - now it has a real fight to the death on its hands!

Cheers,

Grant

I wonder how many of these discontinued players Toshiba had collecting dust in their warehouses when the HD-A3 launched?

Definitely a good way to clear inventory. One-day $99 fire sale at Wal-Mart, plus a new regular price of $199 at most other major retailers.

Then why aren't we seeing price cuts across the board on HD-A3/A30/A35/XA2? So far, the only player on sale is the discontinued HD-A2.

LOL at Circuit City, Best Buy, Amazon, etc...beating Walmarts price by a penny and Walmart coming back and beating them by $100. Walmart is playing a big part in this holidays hi def landscape.

That would be awesome, cuz a consistent ~$199 price is a major milestone, and as big a milestone, if not bigger, as the Wal-Mart $99 price for one day.

How are people seeing if these are available at the stores online. Putting in the zip code just launches the store locater and shows the nearest wal-marts to that zip code. If you are referring to where it says available under the site to store THIS DOES NOT MEAN the store has them. I really think people are going to have to call to check stock and if they got them.

Question is if that Walmart deal is still eligible for the 5 free mail in HD movies?

Here is the links you need to see.

How many you may ask? Read on.

Turns this format war into a mop up operation in my opinion. Unless of course blu-ray can field a $149 player and right away.

This is a killer deal.
Anyone know if there is a similar deal in Canada? What with our dollar being worth way more than the U.S dollar...

You have to ask your wife about a $99 purchase? How many shoes and purses does she have?

Kidding aside, you on on the right path to a happy marriage.

If a $99 player isn't enough to make a person on either side go neutral they need medication. I lean heavily blu, but I'll be picking up a few of these for the bedroom and den, and that'll be enough for me to choose HD-DVD when I have a choice from now on. If warner doesn't go blu then HD-DVD should close the software sales gap pretty quickly.

Whats funny is getting one fro the bedroom will quickly get me to say I need 7.1 surround sound in here...
