Actually looking for it in the XMB and in games.

I have a Pioneer 5070 Plasma, Denon 3808, PS3, & Verizon DVR (Motorola 6214), everything is connected using HDMI.
There is a handshaking issue between the DVR and the Pioneer when the display is set to Auto. This goes away when I set the display to Color-2, which is 4:4:4.
When it is set this way, Blu-Ray movies look great from the PS3, but the XMB, and games have a green tint. I'm guessing this is because it is using RGB.

I looked through the XMB, and the FAQ here, but didn't see what I'm looking for.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JayMan

Most HDTVs with HDMI inputs will accept the video in either RGB or Y Pb Pr format and automatically switch to accept whichever format is being input from the source device. It sounds like the Pioneer 5070 plasma was somewhat crippled in this regard as compared to many other (and perhaps more recent) HDTVs.

The last I checked, the ps3 will only do RGB for XMB and games while for BD/DVD it will do either RGB or YCbCr depending on the setting.

On the Pio, you should be able to set the colorspace to auto on the ps3's input while leaving it at 444 on the DVR input if I'm not mistaken.

Thats what I had thought...

Both are going through a Denon AVR-3808, with 1 HDMI to the Pioneer.

Any way to have the pictures in a random mode?
I'd prefer to do this from a media server.

not that I know of. I've been waiting for this forever. I guess I'm one of the few who actually wants this. it's the same with digital picture frames - they are few and far between, but fortunately the Kodaks do random. I don't get it. If you have more than a few hundred pictures, going in date or filename order just doesn't make sense. i have suggested it to Sony a half dozen times, but with every update....nothing.

I occasionally use PS3 Media Server, but it still uses the PS3's XMB as the GUI, so same limitation. If someone knows of a way to do random photos, let me know.

My digital camera can shoot video onto an SD card as well as photos. My question is how when I download the contents of the card onto the PS3, do I get the pictures under PHOTO and the Videos under the VIDEO folders of the PS3? Does it do this automatically?

Thanks for any help

This is probably only of interest to a limited group of PS3 owners - those that have a US PS3 but are using it in PAL country.

First as background. PS3's destined for NTSC countries (mainly the US but possibly Japan) cannot play PAL DVD's (even if region free) but for some reason can play PAL video streams via the XMB. Clearly this is just a software design feature!

Now Sony Europe have released a cool hardware/software device called Play TV

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/hardwa...ayTV%E2%84%A2/

This is a small USB DVB-T tuner box and associated software that lets the PS3 receive and record OTA HD UHF broadcasts in the DVB-T format (H.264). It's really cool, allowing watch one channel while recording another, pause live TV and probably one of the features that no other PVR has, allow you control it from a connected PSP including watching live TV.

It currently works on DVB-T broadcasts that use H.264 so would not work in the US but it should be relatively easy for Sony to deliver a version that could receive the US ATSC OTA broadcasts and do the same.

I own a US PS3 but live in PAL country and wondered (based on the restrictions I noted above) whether it would work. Well to cut a long story short, it does work. Clearly the Play TV software functions outside the PS3 firmware and so doesn't care if the PS3 is PAL or NTSC - it captures and records broadcasts and plays them back fine.

So this is for anybody who is a country that has DVB-T HD broadcasts and with a US PS3 - go for it!

The only downside is the standard HD in a PS3 is unlikely to be big enough to store your shows and you will have to upgrade to a 500G or even 1TB internal drive but that's pretty easy to do.

Ron Jones, I really need your help please..... When I turn my ps3 slim on it only displays as "PCM 48" on my Sony Muteki 7.2 HTDDW7000 receiver. It wont let me select any other audio options as the message "NOT USED" comes up when I try. It only happens with the PS3.

There is no problems when Im watching TV, DVD or listening to music and I can flick through all the different A.F.D. mode settings such as "Dolby II, Multi ST, DTS Neomusic" but soon as the PS3 turns on all the other audio options are disabled which sucks cause it wont let me select the option like "Dolby II Game 7.1 channel" mode for enhanced gaming.

Im connected using.. PS3 -> HDMI -> Sony Muteki 7000-> Optical and HDMI out to Sony Bravia in->

During the ps3 the blue light on the receiver still activates and it shows all 9 speakers as active but infact the last 2 or sometimes 4 of the surround speakers dont have any sound at the far back.

It sounds like your AVR cannot apply additional post-processing to incoming PCM signals.

Aztor, have you tried switching the PS3 Slim to "Bitstream" under Audio Output Format?

Thanks for responding Brandon. I did try changing one of the options for the ps3 output from LPCM to bitstream as I thought that might fix the problem however it didnt

Press the triangle button, then go to the audio or a/v options selection in the menu overlay that pops up. You can change it from there.

YAY!! I have finally figured out what is causing the problem but I still dont understand why so I need you guys to explain it please....

The problem is with the "Audio Output Settings" in the PS3, when I had it in "Auto" it was only dispalying as "PCM 48" on my receiver but I can resolve the problem when I manually go into "Audio Output Settings" and manually untick the boxes and only leave

-Dolby Digital 5.1ch
-Dolby Digital Plus
-Dolby TrueHD
-DTS 5.1 Ch.
-Linear PCM 2ch. 44.1kHz
-Linear PCM 2ch. 48.1kHz

Then everything on the remote works again however when I select one of the other many boxes like...

Linear PCM 5.1 ch. 44.1 kHz
Linear PCM 5.1 ch. 48 kHz
Linear PCM 7.1 ch. 44.1 kHz
Linear PCM 7.1 ch. 48kHz

Thern it stops working again but my receiver is a 7.2 so why cant it support those other options ?

So if I selected only the boxes that work am I missing out on getting the most out of my Home Theatre ?

Glad you got it working. Very often the AV Receiver (AVR) included with Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) systems are stripped down and offer only a basic set of capabilities. This can even be true for higher-end HTiB systems. That appears to be the case with your Sony AVR. Also it is not uncommon that the specifications page in the AVR owner's manual is incomplete as far as listing which specific sampling rates are supported for each audio mode (i.e, 2, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 channel). As you have learned, you may need to try out the various possible audio settings for the digital audio output on the PS3 to determine which ones actually work with your specific AVR.

I just purchased "The Mask of Zorro" blu-ray disk and it has an unidentified PS3 firmware upgrade on it that must be loaded before the disk will play. It displays a message saying my firmware must be upgraded to at least version 2.76 in order to play the disk. Version 2.76 may be the update that is on the disk but I don't know for sure. Does anyone know how I can find out which firmware update is on this disk. My PS3 is the 60 GB model with the backwards compatibility for PS1 & PS2 games so I want to make sure I don't lose that capability if I upgrade the firmware.

When was the last time you used your PS3 to check for an UPDATE Online?

I doubt there is a frimware update on the disk. Right now the PS3 is on FW 3.10. You will never loose backwards compatibility with a firmware update.
And for the original 60G PS3 the ability to play PS3 games was built into what they called the Emotion chip and as noted, hardly likely to be disabled via firmware. Subsequent releases of the PS3 emulated that in firmware and the Slim I think doesn't have that capability at all.

Backwards compatibility is neither loose nor tight.

http://loseloose.com/

In any case SONY owns SPHE and I've heard of them wanting to put PS3 firmwares on disc for a long time. So this doesn't surprise me in the least.

Try going into the audio settings of the PS3 and set them manually instead of auto (if they're set up for auto now). I had similar problems when I moved my PS3 from my HT system to a stereo-only TV. You may not be hearing the audio encoded in the center channel at all, just the front L/R channels (which would explain the absence of dialogue).

Thanks I'll give it a shot.

So it is, as of today! But when tingham made his post, it was indeed still at 3.10.

Thanks for pointing out my typo error. I didn't think it would bother anyone that much that it had to be corrected. Geez, I was off quite a bit on that particular post that night. I guess I had too many Martini's? And I do know the difference between "lose", and "loose".

I did see a post elsewhere that the "Mask of Zorro" does indeed have a firmware upgrade on the disc. I'm surprised by that, but I guess it's nice to have it on the disc so you can view it without the hassle of using the internet to upgrade. So to the op, you should have no problems updating to that version of firmware on the disc. You will not lose BC with the original 60gb ps3..ever!, as it uses hardware inside the unit for that feature.

FYI - I've updated the PS3 FAQ (Post #2 of this thread) to show the current Firmware version is 3.15.
