Not sure why you are so concerned. It will all work.

just curious, not concerned

after all, it is odd for a device with HDMI 1.3 hardware to support 1.4 features via just firmware updates... just trying to understand how it does this and how this implementation compares to a device with HDMI 1.4 hardware to begin with (if there is any difference at all)

BTW, this is a bit off-topic, but does the new Wii U have HDMI 1.4 hardware support?

I have a PS3 Slim. Audio output is set to HDMI and bitstream. HDMI connection is manually set to allow DTS-Master Audio (automatic would not set it). When the disc has 48 Khz DTS-MA it comes out as such. When the disc has 96 Khz DTS-MA only the lossy core is output and at 48 Khz. Why is that?
The audioprocessor is not the problem. It does 96 Khz DTS-MA with other players.

I was watching Total Recall on Blu-ray Disc today and the audio kept cutting in and out while in Bitstream mode on the PS3 (but the Dolby TrueHD decoder light on the AVR stayed on the whole time) but was perfect in Linear PCM mode. The HTIB in use was the Sony HT-SS380 and this issue rarely occurs if at all with other movies using the same setup in Bitstream mode. The disc had no scratches on it and just a few fingerprints (it was a redbox rental). Why did using Linear PCM solve the problem instantly and completely (with Bitstream mode it was getting unbearable to listen to)?

Not just the PS3, but many players. It's the disc. See http://www.avsforum.com/t/1430965/total-recall-2012

Hate to ask this question to group, as i feel i'm a dummy again..

PS3 Slim with Onkyo TX706 AVR

Should i use the optical connection? or just use HDMI only?
I had thought the HDMI connection supercedes the optical in technology and usability, but now not so sure...

Stream lots of movies/music via PS3 Media Server...

Onkyo TX 706
PS3 Slim
HSU Hybrid 15 (with VTF-15 subwoofer.)

thanks

I would like to ask someone to post screenshots of your transcoding settings, as i am still

I checked this again today and now it says 1080 HD. Does this mean I'm getting the best quality available?

See this thread about their SuperHD and 3D encodes,

thanks, but it seems Comcast doesn't support Super HD yet (and I don't care about 3D)... so Super HD aside, is '1080 HD' the best I can get from Comcast at the moment?

I ask because previously there was Medium HD, High HD, and X-High HD and now there is just 720 HD and 1080 HD.

I have Comcast as well and have been trying the unblock-us DNS work around with very mixed results, more often than not I do not get connected to the SuperHD servers, others have had more favorable results - it's free to try for a week, $5 per month afterward. As far as the new quality designations that is something recent within the last few days and I haven't researched it yet, it's being discussed in that thread, check the latest posts of the last few days.

giving unblock-us a chance...can see Super HD and even 3D choices now on Netflix

the 3D options don't work- says "this title is not available for Streaming"

The Super HD doesn't seem to work either- never get above 1080p and sometimes less than that. Almost think the quality is worse than using standard DNS I was on before

Yes, as I noted above, I really have not had much luck with it. Watched an episode of House of Cards last night and got the "1080P/HD" encode, not the SuperHD.

You have to run the video set-up again for your PS3 to 'see' the 3D in your projector. I'll take it you just got the projector?

Thanks for the reply and yes Just got it. What do you mean by running the video set up for the PS3, does it have to be on bit stream or what? Currently have it running straight from the PS 3 by HDMI. The PS 3 states only 1080P ?? the highest level of video????? doest it have to be changed if so to what and how?

Bitstream is for audio - not video. Go to your 'settings' and go through the video set-up again. When you do the PS3 will show you all available display options and it should now show 3D 1080p etc.

Try it it did not work through video display think that need a 3D receiver pass through from my PS3?

Ah - yes -your AVR must be at least 3D pass through. If it can pass through and it's still not showing 3D you can do what I used to do w/my DLP 3D TV: 'trick' the PS3 into the 3D but you have to directly plug the PS3 into the Projector, run the video set up (it'll see the 3D) unplug it from the projector but NOT THE BACK of the PS3, then plug the HDMI back into theAVR and you'll have 3D. Remember, don't unplug the HDMI from the rear of the PS3.

Currently sent the receiver for a exchange at Amazon it was DOA. so trying to run through straight from the PS3 to the 3D PJ

That should work without any problems then. So you've tried that and it didn't show 3D? While most HDMI cables are the 'same' I suggest ensuring the HDMI is at least the 3D spec that you're using.
I didn't have to turn on 3D on my Sony PJ to have it 'find' the 3D video so i would believe you wouldn't have to with your PJ either.

Is anyone using a ps3 as a CD player with the 3009? I am and would like to get the best sound possible. How would I hook it up? Right now I am using a hdmi cable between the two. When I put in a cd, my 3009 is set to BD. am I using the internal DAC of the ps3, or the 3009 this way? I would like to bypass the DAC in the ps3 and use the one in the 3009. Should I use a optical cable into the cd input of the 3009?
There will be no difference in an HDMI or optical connection. The receiver DACs are used with all digital connections. The player DACs are only used with the analog outputs.
