^^ I don't think that thread is relevant to the OP's question. All digital codecs must end up as PCM in order for a home theater receiver to process them and produce sound. The question at hand is the nature of the source material. If a PS3 decodes a lossy DD 5.1 track, the resulting PCM is no better than the PCM produced by a receiver decoding the same DD 5.1 track.
