Need help with My Movies on a server

I checked on the My Movies faq to see if I could use a workstation PC as a server. Question #11 here suggests that it is.

I then went to the Doc here that the above link says explains how to do it, but it does not.

So I then tried to download the software to see if I could set it up, and it won't work without MCE, which the server does not have, it is only XP Pro.

So my question is; Is it actually possible to control the database from a non-MCE workstation?

Currently I rip all my DVD's down to the server with DVD Shrink, and I want to administer the database here. Can I?

You can manage your collection using the web interface, you can not run the actual MyMovies software without MCE (as it is an MCE-plugin). You have to install MyMovies on an MCE computer, then you can access the database using the web interface from your workstation computer.

Ah, so I have to get it up and running on an MCE machine first. I did not realize that.

I haven't setup my media center machine yet, as I have been playing around with interfaces on my XP machine first.

I will work on getting it setup to try out.

not entirely true. you can run the collection management app from any computer. mce does not need to be installed. you just open the database file on the other computer in cm.

I do it this way.
