How many HD-A2 HD DVD players sold? - Page 2

Not that I really care, since I like both formats, but I do think this will definitely close the gap in BR's lead. But it won't put a serious hurt on the lead until the media comes down in price. Toshiba & the participating retailers have accomplished half of what they need to do for this to really take off. Now the movies need to be $15 a piece.

Are we expecting a press release or leak from either Wal-Mart or Toshiba on this?

I doubt this will happen anytime soon. Blockbuster is a very large company & has a lot of capital. Sure, they're closing down a lot of stores, but you have to remember how many stores they have.

I think they've been under horrible management & we'll probably see some changes now that they've announced closure of over 500+ stores. They'll find a way to stay in business, they've been around for way too long.

I will say that Netflix most certainly is taking a lot of their business though, so no argument there.

Incorrect. BB supports both, but their support is overwhelming tilted for BR.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the response.

With the absence of Wal-Mart statistics, that's a significant gap in sales results. So, with Warner expressing its intention of carefully considering the fourth quarter sales results before deciding whether to go format exclusive, do you have an opinion on where they are going to obtain credible sales data?

I suppose it would be in Toshiba's interest to directly provide Warner with player sales results. Microsoft could likewise provide stats on XBox sales. I wonder whether the other competing HD DVD exclusive studios would provide them with their respective HD DVD disc sales? One thing we know for sure is that Warner knows how much of its HD DVD discs sold.

So FOX must be neutral then.

HD DVD is readily available for rent on-line at both Netflix and Blockbuster

Roger that.

For all those who say Blockbuster carries HD DVDs online, what are you looking at? Searching for HD DVD on BB only reveals Digitial Video Essentials. There are no HD DVD movies on BB online.

You know what, I thought the same exact thing, which is why I was arguing with these gentlemen earlier. If you're online & you do a search for a movie, once you pull up that movie, click on "All Editions." That's where you can add the HD version to your queue.

I made the mistake of listening to what everyone else was saying about Blockbuster only supporting BR.

when you go online, go to collections, on the drop down menu, click on hd dvd

many choices

For the record, I personally think anywhere between 100 and 130K players sold this weekend. Crutchfield alone sold close to 15K online, Walmart probably 70-80K, and I can't even guesstimate Best Buy and Circuit City with their price matching deals.

Yes I would bet there is already someone at Toshiba assigned to generate the report.

Walmart has real time sales information down to the second which is kept inhouse and used as leverage for aquiring new merchandise or cutting out old merchandise.

Walmart never has cooperated with Nielson as, well frankly it does not need to They run thier own show and in the end, beleive me when I tell you, Walmart is not were it is at by following anyone, quite the opposite actually in everyone (retailers) following them.
