Several people at my office who bought HD-A2s from Wal-mart didn't have component or HDMI cables packed in the box. Reports from the field say that some units do have them, but apparently many do not.
EDUCATE YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY/COWORKERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF USING THE RIGHT CABLES!!
We will see dissatisfied buddies if they plug up their HD-A2 with composite or S-video and get a disappointing picture.
They won't only be angry with the product, they'll be angry with you for selling them on this new technology.
Head off the massive returns that could potentially happen, and educate your friends on where to obtain reasonably priced, high quality cables, such as from our various forum sponsors above.
USE THIS HANDY CHART! (Thanks Sarcoptic)
VIDEO CONNECTIONS
Composite = 480i DVD, HDDVD <-----NOT RECOMMENDED - SDTV only
S-Video = 480i DVD, HDDVD <----- NOT RECOMMENDED - SDTV only
Component = up to 480p (EDTV) with DVD, up to 1080i with HDDVD
HDMI = up to 1080i DVD, up to 1080i HDDVD <-----BEST CONNECTION - HDTV and Upscaling
AUDIO CONNECTIONS
Red/white RCA plugs = 2 channel left/right audio <----- Good connection for TV speakers
Digital Optical cable = 5.1 channel surround, Dolby Digital or DTS 1.5mbps <-----Good connection for most Surround Sound systems
HDMI Cable to compatible A/V receiver = Dolby TrueHD or LPCM lossless <-----Best for surround sound systems with newer A/V receivers
IF YOU HAVE DVI INPUTS ON YOUR TV:
In some cases, you can use a DVI to HDMI cable to achieve an all digital signal path. Also, active converters are an alternative to passive cables.
**If you have a NON-HDCP DVI port, you will need to use component video.
(If anyone knows of RGB/YCbCr mismatch problems, or other CURRENT issues with HDMI to DVI converstion, post here and I'll change this note)
