They should buy EP, Zodiac, 3:10, Sunshine, and Pan's.
But they won't ;/

I hardly think Stardust is a 'big film' :P but yeah, thats most of whats announced so far. But you know, theres going to be plenty of new title announcements in December + at CES.

Hummm how about that they will buy from the films that have already been released over the past 1.5 years? Since they just got the player all of the current releases are new releases to them. Just a thought

All too true. A lot here get wrapped up in what's coming out next week. The people buying into HD DVD now have quite a library to sift through to find their favorites.

Also, Rush Hour 3 and Shoot 'Em Up are not exclusive. I suppose the perception will be that they're exclusive because of the HD DVD delay. Then again, Blu-ray has always been more about perception, hasn't it?... Of course, New Line will go where Warner goes...hmmm...makes you wonder if they'll ever make it to Blu-ray.

The Piano is coming for HD DVD the same day as Mobsters. Hey, at least that makes one good film out that day...

I doubt HD DVD will want to be in a 3 to 4 months drought at the begining of the new year like the did last year. Although am sure HD DVD will make marketing mistatkes in the future, they aren't going to make the same two bigs ones that nearly killed them last year..

1 having no players to sell for Christmass,

2 having no new titles to sell for nearly 4 monts.

Beowolf looks like it is going to be a huge release whenever it shows up.
The Kingdom might actually be suprisingly popular with a lot of new owners of $98 HD DVD players.
It will also be interesting to see if these same people will wait for something like Hairspray, or simply buy the DVD version when it shows up.

Why are Shoot 'Em Up and Rush Hour 3 just on BD side? BD may get them first, but both sides DO get them.

I hope they don't.

I got into both formats on the same day last year (right around Thanksgiving).

I was buying all neutral titles as HD DVD at that point. Then it appeared they near-abandoned the format in January-March 2007, and that was a large factor in me making all neutral purchases as BD from that time on.

I still don't understand why they pulled that virtual no-show. They essentially gave up their lead, and BD has won Nielsen ever since.

And please don't say "Q1 is always slow" because it's not. Except for the first 2 weeks of January, historically there have been plenty of releases during Q1. Go back to every year and look up the first Tuesday in February - it's always a big release day.

Universal, Paramount and Dreamworks got a bunch of stuff released theatrically this quarter which are probably going to be released in Q1 '08 on HD DVD

American Gangster
Beowulf
Bee Movie
Charlie Wilson's War

I'm sure Universal remembers what happened Q1 '07 when they were largely quiet and no new HD DVD movies were released. The BDA declared victory blah blah blah...

I don't think New Line necessarily goes with WB. It's not the same situation as Paramount and Dreamworks.
In that situation Viacom owns Paramount which owns Dreamworks

In the case of WB and New Line
Time Warner owns WB
Time Warner owns New Line

That's why you have New Line with the delay on hddvd titles but you get nothing like that from WB.

Now, I do not know all the legal details involved so I'm not saying New Line doesn't follow WB. I just don't think it's a certainty.
