I can't believe it, but as of today, I'm a tru blu fanatic! (Transformers related)

Before someone disses me for starting another declaration topic, I just wanna say that I'm not new to blu ray but I wanna establish the fact that I'm finally supporting blu ray 100%! And I wanna see if anyone's in the same camp as well.

I realized that I a tru blu ray fanatic today when I refused to buy into the hd dvd deal even when one of my all time favorite movie, transformers (say what you want but I really really loved this movie) is hd dvd exclusive. Instead I chose to purchase the dvd instead. (Okay so the transforming dvd case was what sold me to buy the dvd as opposed to waiting for the possible release of a transformers blu ray) It was easier to swallow as well because the hd dvd copy does not have lossless audio anyway. On top of all that, I truly believe, as well as my gut feeling, is that blu ray will win this war. I cannot bring myself to support a format I do not believe in anymore. (Which is really sad since I prefer the red casing and I've been a supporter of toshiba and never really liked sony)

Moving on, I'm really glad I purchased the dvd, cause I know i'd probably tear my hair bald waiting for the blu ray release. (If it's ever released for blu ray of course, but one can always hope) On top of that, for a dvd, it truly does sound and look amazing. Its still pretty obvious to me its not high def but I would say the picture quality and sound quality is definitely good enough for me to enjoy the movie without being distracted by bad video or audio. The pictures online showing the differences between dvd and hd dvd just does not do justice to the real thang. Both vers (demo-ed the hd dvd copy at my friend's place) looks much better in real life, with dvd looking good enough that you won't be as disappointed by the crappy pictures taken of it which were posted online. For a dvd, the sound and video quality is among the best I've ever experienced. Definitely a worthy make-do solution while waiting for the high def vers if you're strictly in the blu ray camp like me. Anyone else who's a blu ray fan who purchased the dvd thinks so too?

Phew.

I was up all night wondering which version you would buy. I'm super glad you posted this thread. Now my life can get back to normal.

I will give you this though. .. Your tolerance for SD DVD is much greater than mine. I could never watch/listen to a movie like Transformers in SD.

*crickets heard in the background* I think you are alone on this one, but good luck with that.

Transformers DVD can't hold a candle to the HD-DVD version. Picture or sound. Trust me. Simply no comparison. If you are a Transformers fan (as am I) - you are really missing out. And the audio is Spectacular (DD+ @1.5mbps) Vastly superior to the bit-starved DVD. I think it would have been worth it for you to buy a $99.00 HD-DVD player just for this one title alone. I've watched it four times already.

I too bought the DVD despite being tempted to get the HD DVD and rehook my HD DVD player that has been unplugged for many months now. I managed to resist that temptation.

I'm a dual-formatter also and got lucky and found a used copy of Transformers on HD-DVD on sale for $14.99.

Needless to say, I picked it up

holy crapola! You could sell it for more than that easily.

Nice to see another enlightened consumer, you did the right thing the DVD should suffice for now and it should feel good that you did not waste your money on a half baked product. Good things come to those who wait and im shure Transformers will be released in Blu-Ray with Lossless and maybe even the directors cut in the future.

Also dont listen to the sour grapes that are going to come in here and try to to make you buy the HD-DVD, if you know you did the right thing then thats all that matters. I to am waiting for the Blu-ray.

Wait a second. You have issues with the PQ and AQ of HD DVD. But you rather watch a DVD version?

I cant really understand that position.

So, just because it doesnt have losless sound on the HD DVD copy, you're willing to sit through the SD DVD, which has worse picture and sound? Makes total sense

Well.... never seen this declaration being made on the forum before.

Someone call Sony and tell them to pop the champagne.

My position is that I want HD DVD to disappear. How is that hard to understand?

But you dont want DVD to disappear?

I prefer HD DVD over BD, but I would never buy a DVD version instead of a BD.

I prefer one but enjoy both.

But everyone knows the enlightened consumer would choose Pepsi.
I refuse to support the inferior Coke brand. Anyone that buys Coke is prolonging the Soda War and is an enemy to the consumer, technology on the whole and ultimately democracy itself. and don't even get me started on the facial expressions war, this boy is all frowns till the day i die!!!!

Fanyboyism is just plan dumb. Buy an HD DVD player also so you can watch your favorite movie and enjoy HD, not fanaticism.

I am getting pretty sick and tired of coming to a Blu Ray software forum and reading things about HD-DVD. It is clear spam, so someone should get rid of it!

I just watched this for the first time last night on HD-DVD and it was mind blowing. Felt like the house was going to come crashing down on top of me at times. I have a Blu-ray as well and have heard most the good PCM tracks and this Transformers DD+ track hangs with anything I have heard on blu-ray no problem IMO. Watched 300 2 nights before with PCM and I was more impressed with the DD+ Transformers track. The PQ is also top notch to boot. I say grab the HD-DVD and a $100 player and enjoy this to the max as it is worth it. One of the best HT experiences I have had.

Agreed. There are such great movies and experiences to be had on both formats. Why deny yourself?

Dount count on the Mods to delete the HD-dvd spam, since most are HD-dvd followers themselves hence the crappy experiences we get in the Blu forum.

Also this post is going to get deleted by a corrupt mod so I suggest you sign up at the Blu-ray.com forums, the place is great.

after reading the original post about 10 times, i'm STILL trying to figure out what he/she was trying to say...

was it:

a) bought the sd dvd because of the "transforming case"?
b) bought the sd dvd and settled for proven inferior video and audio because of assumed inferior audio on hd dvd?
c) the true belief (in addition to "gut feeling") that bluray is going to win this war?
d) came to the rapturous realization that "YES!!!! i AM a TRU-BLU fanboy!!!!!!", and that i will clearly cut off my nose to spite my face by not enjoying one of my favorite movies of all time in the best form that it is currently available...
e) something else?

hey, i like my bdp-s1, but some of these posts/threads just make me wonder what is going on in the minds of some people...

This thread is worthless without brains.

There's a Transformers 'end of the world' joke somewhere in that, but I think I need more coffee. I'll get back to that.

Although, I wonder if it was the end of the world today, how many people would be spending their last moments posting "How will the apocalypse impact Warner's format stance?".
