HTPC Case: Purpose of the LCD Display?

My Question is about the Case. I am still in the search for a good one. I'm comming across the Cases with and LCD display. I really like the thermaltake DH102. But then i question the Usefullness of the LCD display. Is it really work the extra money? What can this display do that wouldn't appear on the regular TV.

I'm looking for a case that will last a good while and for 500.00 I hope that this case would do it. I also plan on watercooling my case to prevent uncessary fan noise.

Thank you for your help

I have one and its really not worth it, unless your sitting 3 feet away from your HTPC you will never see it.

It is good for people that use projectors and don't want to turn it on to access other functions, like music for example. I have no use for one, but many forum members do. The fact that you are asking the question leads me to believe you have no need for one.

That is a neat feature if I can acess playlists and music without turning on the tv....hmmmm

I run mediaportal and the silverstone mpc (imon lcd). I also use it to listen to music "blind" and for the benefit of stock/news/weather tickers. I find that from a distance of 10 feet from the couch, I can see the display just fine (the case sits almost on the floor)

To each his own though.

I'm going to fall into the "no lcd" crowd. My HTPC is right under my TV, and I don't need a distracting LCD down there.

I am in the YES crowd... but like redondoman said... it’s VERY useful for people with projectors or for someone who does not want to turn on a TV for basic stuff...

I was looking at the SilverStone with the 7” touchscreen… Reason I am looking at it is
a. all my crap is rack mounted so the case fits
b. im using a projector, bulbs aint cheap, and firing up the projector to turn on music isn’t very efficient IMO.
c. I hate using the keyboard, mouse, or even remote sometimes… while I setup other items standing at my rack, I can also start a movie, music, or other feature using only the touch screen…

The only downside when you are using a projector and touch screen is when both are hooked up, it leaves me with no other inputs to use another LCD monitor for regular PC use..
