The special edition SD-DVD of Chinatown is being released tomorrow... but there doesn't seem to be any signs of a hi-def release!

Anyone hear anything that might indicate a future release at least??

They read compaints in this forum about not perfect transfers of 30 year old movies and thought why bother?

Too much grains!

The TV series "Bread" will never come on an HD format either, if people keep whinging about grain!

I havent heard anything, but I would LOVE to have this film in HD.

And yes, it has tons of wonderful film grain

One of my all time favorites. They certainly don't make films like that anymore. Needlessly to say, I would love to see this bad boy in HD.

It looked pretty good on HDNet Movies a few months ago. Too bad Paramount seems content to release only a handful of movies(and almost none of them being catalog titles) now that they've gone HD-DVD exclusive.

I've been holding out for YEARS on buying Chinatown, hoping a special edition would be released... then HD-DVD/Blu-Ray came along, and now I feel like I want to continue holding out, in case the movie will be released in HD.

I'm torn!

I bought the dvd for 5 dollars a month ago.

2 years from now a HD-DVD comes out I will spend the clams to upgrade.

Would it sell as much as Transformers?
No.
Would it help win the war?
No.
Would it take energy, time, & effort away from more "popular" titles?
Yes.
Is Paramount trying to help beat Blu-ray?
Yes.

Do I want this title in my collection?
Yes!
Will this new transfer be used for an HD DVD release?
Most likely!
Would I also like the Two Jakes on HD Disc?
You betcha!

I don't know. If Warner Bros. can release some classic Kubrick movies, I don't see why a big oscar-winning movie starring Jack Nicholson can't get some love.
