I recently watched the STAR WARS Trilogy (ep:4,5,6) and was amazed on how it looked. LOTR was also great. Can't wait till these titles jump into the HI DEF picture !!! Can you guys recommend any.

the Pixar stuff pops out of the screen. Its incredible. The blurays are probably mind numbing.

I think Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones looks spectacular upconverted to 1080p. Some friends think it's HD.

1408 is a pretty good looking disc, and X2: X-Men United is a personal favorite.

Thank you for smoking is the only disk that looks semi hd

Sin City looks great.

Every time I calibrate or change something in my setup I run to SW: Episode I for the 3 way saber duel at the end, for sound I hit up the pod race. Just got the A2 and it has never looked this good. I replaced my older Sony upconverting player with it and am very impressed with it overall, though even the sony did a good job (to my eyes).

So there is a vote for episode I. But if Star and Wars are in the title you know it's going be good upconverted, time was well spent on these releases.

The Indiana Jones trilogy isn't too shabby either.

And oddly, alot of TV on DVD looks really good upconverted. I was very impressed with the Buffy and Angel Boxsets, and Firefly as well (must be a Joss Whedon thing). Twin Peaks looks great. I haven't touched my X-files disks in years, but I was thinking of re-watching some of my favorites from Season 3, we will see how they turn out.

Oh, and on that topic - I sadly didn't get heros on HD since I got a great deal from a local mom and pop on the SD version (sub $30), and it looked great (and that was on the old sony.)

My old Gladiator DVD looked much better. More detail overall PQ!

One that surprised me was Napolean Dynamite. I didn't expect it to look that good but it does. Also a few of the Dreamworks movies like Over The Hedge. It will be nice once they get those out on proper HD.

I should also add that Night At The Museum looks amazing upconverted. It's good enough that if I had a Blu-Ray player this movie would be low on my priority list.

BLADE 2 is the gold standard DVD upconvert material to show off the upconversion power of your HD DVD!

Cars! On my HD-XA1 looks very close to HD PQ. Sin city is also quite good.

I watched Meet the Robinsons SD on my HD-A20 and I couldn't imagine how it could possibly look better in HD. I'm curious to see what it would look like on Blu-Ray.

I think you'll find that the TV shows that were originally broadcast in 1080i (Heroes, CSI, etc), look especially good as SD DVDs upconverted. My CSI:Miami set looks fantastic.
I'm not sure why that is. Maybe they take the 1080i and downconvert it for DVD? Maybe someone else can chime in?

I have the Toshiba A-2, paired with a 768P Pioneer plasma, and most everyone I talked to said feeding the Pio 480i through HDMI and letting the Plasma just scale it once to it's native res of 768P was the way to go.

Is everyone else here having their HD DVD players scale their SD DVD's to out 720P, 1080i, or 1080P?

Just curious if I am doing it right. I send SD 480i, and HD's 1080i.

Thanks. And I think Hot Fuzz and World's Fastest Indian SD's look great on my plasma using my A-2.

Thanks

Any pixar movie. The special editions of Toy Story look phenomenal. I'd love to have the BD versions, but as the kids don't care what's the point.

After foolishly ignoring Heroes last year , I've been recording HD broadcasts of the show this year - and I like it alot!!

Since the upconverted version appears to be excellent, what should I buy for my new HD-A2?

Heroes Season 1 DVD (now $40 at Amazon.com) or Heroes Season 1 HD-DVD (now $70 at Amazon.com)

Any thoughts?

My region 2 (PAL) Star Wars Ep 3 DVD is by far the best quality DVD I have seen.

The new Some Like It Hot and the new Bonds.

Some of my favorites upconverted:

Hellboy, Star Wars Ep. III, Thank You For Smoking (seriously!), Deja Vu, ANY Pixar movie, The Office (TV series), Arrested Development (TV)

I watch on an 84" screen and do NOT use my 360 add on to upconvert. I have a SONY NS75H standard DVD player that absolutely trumps it. Ask my brother! The 360 player is a poor upconverter. I hear the only GREAT hd upconverter is the XA2.
