A question about the UAW perk - can this replace a silencer, or will you still show up as a red dot when you fire a shot without a silencer?

UAV perk only hides you when not firing and when firing with silencer

If IW had made the game as realistic as possible, it probably wouldn't have been as fun for newcomers. Plus, it's fun to play with all the combinations of weapons & perks. I used to use the same few perks with each weapon, but now I enjoy trying out the others, even if I'm not as good with them.

My current goal is mastering the iron sights on all weapons (sans sniper & shotgun). The red dot & ACOG sure make the precision shots a lot easier, but I find it's quite challenging and rewarding to pick somebody off at distance with the standard sights and a silencer. Plus it keeps'em guessing as to where you are!

Speaking of, the sights on the M60-E4 have to be the worst I've ever seen! They're so big & clunky, they obscure your target.

Did you ever make Prestige? I know some people who refuse going Prestige, and prefer just racking up kills forever with all their perks intact... I may try that myself (I'm currently at level 54).

nope...you will still show up if you fire your un-silenced weapon. If you use this perk, you should consider using a silenced weapon, otherwise its somewhat negated. Granted you won't show up on UAV scans, but once you fire your gun, you are spotted. I have one class that is a sneaky-ass class, and I use UAV and silenced weapons. I wet my pants when both my team and the enemy has the UAV going, its fun.

not meaning to jump in on this, but I went prestige (twice actually). Its fun, because you get to tackle all the challenges again, and the more you play, the better you become in terms of advancing. My theory of thought was that eventually I am going to want to have some of the top-notch camo for my favorite guns, and I know I'll be playing this game for awhile, so why not go prestige. You keep all your stats, but lose all your challenges. Its fun and keeps the game fresh.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for fast ways to level up, Headquarters I would say is the best by far. Followed by S&D, but you need to be able to kill about 10 people in a match to get some good xp.

Feel free to add me! I love the AVS forums, don't post much but am always reading the threads.

Prestige is pretty much worthless. It just gives you the same challenges over and over in the same order, weak stuff if you ask me. Too bad they couldtn have made some of the harder challenges saved for prestige x5 or something, or make it so you cant go prestige without completing all the challenges. Or give prestige different levels of clothing options. As is, its lame.

What is needed for one to be able to "host" a game? Is a LAN setup required, or do you need a dedicated server of some sort?

Thanks. When throwing a grenade, does the red dot show your location or the location of where the grenade landed?

I'm one of those who will not be "advancing" into prestige mode. I enjoy the game enough on its own merits to have no need to lose my perks in order to have a reason to continue playing

I'm also trying to attain the red tiger camo for each weapon. That is going to take a LONG time in and of itself! Head shots seem to be sketchy in this game, so it's more a matter of luck. It can take quite a while to rack up 150 headshots with some of these weapons.

I was curious of this as well. However, I believe that you do not show up on radar with any grenade, flashbang, etc.

Can anyone corroborate this?

We tested it at work today and it didn't seem to do it.

I still can't believe you have a PS3 at work. I REALLY need to get a government job, apparently

I know atleast within the air force, most "shift worker" style jobs have TV's (usually premium lcds at this point), dvd players, and playstations (1,2 or 3)xbox's (though the gaming systems are typically donated as they'd never get funded through gpc).

I can tell you my game play is directly connected to how well my sigal is in that game. if you are a millisecond behind other players they see you first, watch closely at the replays. when our signal is full bars of dark green, I have a much better success ratio. We play the game based on challenges and getting the most points, so some days are long using weapons your not familiar with or are not as powerfull, silencers kill the power. All in all its a great title, one of the best FPS Ive ever played. Find me out there Im "pengilly"
Ps How do you find other people on there anyway? How do join up with a clan and play together? Ive been invited to join clans but never seen the other players again, its definately different than previous FPS games.

Is there a listing of all ranks somewhere top to bottom?

I've definately noticed this as well. And over the New Year holiday it was especially bad, and even last night I had trouble getting into any online game.

I will post this here just in case it helps 1 person save some frustrating time troubleshooting. I was having lots of issues where I would connect/download game data whatever - then it would just put me in the lobby by myself waiting for a game to start...boring.

I tried leaving and re-entering over and over and over but that didn't work either...finally I found a post online that instructed to go to the game data files - delete CoD4 file - then relaunch the game. This downloaded all the updated files again and seems to have fixed my problem. I noticed that I was over 10x's more likely to find a game after this proceedure with zero delay. I wonder if IW put up more recent files but didn't advertise this to peeps...?

Anyhow, just thought I would pass this info along.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Do you remember the exact file name that's supposed to be deleted? And by deleting this file, did everything else in the game stay intact - rank, perks, etc?
It is in the GAMES section of the XMB. Not the Saved Games section but Game Data section.

You can't miss it. It is a pic of CoD4.

Everything stays the same with respect to Rank, Perks, etc.

I just unlocked the perk that allows me to carry two primary weapons instead of a primary and a pistol.

I'm wondering.......if I combine that perk with Last Stand - after I die, will my guy pull out my second assault weapon instead of a pistol??

*crosses fingers*

Nope gives you some pea shooter noob pistol that is hard to shoot people with. I miss my Desert Eagle when I pick up someone else's gun

I'm at level 53 now so I have all of the guns unlocked but I keep coming back to the M60. I use the shotties a lot too but on the bigger maps, I end up with the M60. Funny, because I never used that gun in any of the SOCOM installments.

One thing that has drastically improved my kills is using frags. After I unlocked the 3-frag perk, I get quite a few kills using them. I think it's critical to cook them a bit before chucking them; they take too long to explode otherwise, giving the enemy enough time to get away. I just started using the Sonic Boom perk last night and it seemed to help get kills too, although I am not completely sure. '

Another tip for grenades is to bounce them off walls to get guys hiding around corners. This doesn't work as well as in SOCOM but it works well enough.

Another tip is to kill and move, kill and move. Don't stay in the same spot once you've fired your weapon. I've always been a run n gunner, even on SOCOM, so I never really camped. But this game is much more unforgiving of even minor camping than SOCOM. I just love the camping Snipers that shoot and miss a hundred times and stay in the same place. I sneak up and knife them. They go right back to the same spot and I do it again. I just don't get them, especially with the Kill Cam. You can see exactly where they are if they do kill you.

Many already said it, but use cover when traversing the map. Don't run out in the open. Also, don't sprint every where you go. You are to easy too spot. I sprint for sure, but I also crouch-walk a lot too behind cover.

Last, don't be afraid to jump off walls and balconies and **** to surprise guys waiting for you to use a formal exit. There is nothing more satisfying than jumping off a balcony and knifing a dude as you land. Use the map to your advantage; get creative.

BTW, send me a friends invite if you don't mind playing with a Cuban. PSN is the same as here. Make sure to add "AVS" to the subject so I don't confuse you with an Interweb Stalker.

Is "cooking" the grenades a Perk, or is it done via some other method?
Hold in the R2 button before releasing. If you hold it in too long grenade will explode in your hand. Definitely cook before throwing.

Does anyone know if you can adjust how far you throw the actual grenade? In SOCOM, how far you threw the grenade depending on how long you held the R2 button. For example, if I want to just drop a grenade next to me as I am running. I haven't been able to figure that one out. It would be nice to drop one as I'm running if I know someone is trying to sneak up behind me.

I've got to where I like the G3 best of all. I know its a single shot but with Stopping Power it is great for short or long shots.
As far as the Kill Cam goes, Ive learned keep the sight up for several seconds after a kill. It is much harder to see where you are located if all you see is the scope view.

I think hosting games is out of our control. The game will make you a host if you have a good connection I guess. I have never been a host.

BTW, as far as perks I think it balances the game pretty good.

And what is the ultimate stealth setup up silencer + uav jammer? I guess this is as close right. With this setup no one can see you in the map as a dot. But your location will always be given away with the death kill cam.

Do you guys wish there was a perk to turn kill cam off?

Nice tip. I haven't seen this used yet.

Interesting... however, I probably won't do that since I never snipe. I don't have the patience.

How would you exact your revenge on a camper if they got rid of it?

The only thing that I want them to improve is the lobby and host-passing. I don't have many of the connection issues that a lot of you complain about. What I can't stand is when games end because the host decides to leave because he's getting owned. Honestly, I think there are some that will end the game shortly after it starts on purpose. It's probably the same type that would boot the room in SOCOM. Little twits that get a sense of importance from doing something so childish.

If they made it easier to find your friends in a game than just by invite, that would also be fantastic. Enough bitching though... there's plenty of other threads for that. Honestly, this game is pretty awesome, even with all of it's quirks and small issues. If they made it perfect, we bitch that there's nothing to complain about.
I like that someone knows where I was when I killed them. Because I look for guys that are coming back for revenge and try to anticipate a good place to get them again from! I also do the same thing when I go for revenge. Unless I was killed by a camper I try to anticipate where he was heading when he killed me and try to cut him down!
