I'm a noob, but is their a point to use a cable with 4 wires if I am not doing anything fancy like biwiring?

Also, I need a good subwoofer cable in about a 25ft length.

not sure.

most people don't.

are you using the pre-out to the sub or speaker level?

you can use them with 2 conductors for + and -. the extra conductors help give more natural noise cancellation.

so for example, if there was yellow/red/blue/black wires... I would terminate yellow/red with 1 spade/banana and use that as positive? and like wise for blue/black for negative?

could you expand on this idea? i recall that for a while it was the rage to braid speaker wire, but that seems to have passed. what are the physics of this practice?

For the subwoofer cable any good quality coaxial cable should do the job. Got mine from monoprice.
Canare 4S11 is thick, rigid and heavy in a good way.

there's actually 2 red and 2 white jacketed conductors in there, 2 (1 each) are translucent and the other 2 are opaque.

it has to do with the magnetic field that is created when you run a current through a wire. there's some pictures here:

I am still researching between the Canare and Belden that BJC carries and the ones offered by Monoprice

At this point am inclined towards the Quad Canare.

It's biggest advantage is that you doesn't have to redo the cabling if & when you upgrade to speakers capable of bi-wiring and want to bi-wire. A big plus in my case would be that I wouldn't t have to buy more wire nor would I have to redo the routing if and when I upgrade to bi-ware capable speakers.

With speakers NOT capable of bi-wiring, I believe one can use banana plugs and connect 2 wires to the same terminal (Meaning all four are connected at both ends). And I think it's only when all four wires are used that one gets the benefit of the magnetic field's canceling out each other. If anyone knows that this would result in problems, please correct me.
