Thanks for the insight. I took a look and it only looks like they would issue a warranty for a year on refurbs. I will have to check other companies, but it will likely be similar. I imagine though, if the unit I receive is less than perfect, I would have a much easier time getting the perfect unit if I bought new than if I bought a refurb if there are any image blemishes.
With that said, are the issues people are reporting that serious? Or is it mainly a quest for a perfect projector (which is perfectly understandable.) The other projector I am strongly considering, the HC3800 also seems to have its share of issues recently. This is my first projector and I do not have a 100% light controlled dedicated theater. The big draw of this one is that it is cheapest 1080p projector I can find with lens shift. I plan on putting it on a table of the back of my living room (seating is at the sides) and putting it away when not in use.
