I have not seen some recalibrated settings in some time. Last ones I used were Rangers some time ago.

Any chance of seeing them ?

A little more than I have on my bulb LOL.

I am going to try them and compare ! Thanks bro !

Be sure to post up impressions if you give the settings a try! I think my current settings are the best yet, as the 2.4 gamma really makes the contrast and dark levels pop. Color accuracy is phenominal as well, albeit slightly oversaturated as most of us prefer. Funny thing is the newest release of Calman actually changed its priorities giving preference to primary luminance over saturation, and personally I agree that it looks better.

Guys, anybody looking for a low hour Pro8100 with over 2 years left on the warranty. I will be posting mine for sale on AVS in the next few days. I need to check the hours and take some pics.

Mike, sorry to see you leave the fold! What are you replacing the Pro8100 with? One of the new JVCs?

Nice. Do you think it will matter that I am <1000 hours on my lamp?

Yes, RS45. I really liked what I saw of the JVC's at CEDIA. Not sure when/if I will get into 3D, but I will probably try it out. With three projectors already, one has to go.

I was generally impressed by the RS40 when I saw it at CEDIA in Atlanta in 2010, so I can only imagine that the RS45 will be better still. Be sure to post impressions once you've had a chance to live with it for a while!

Ranger, if you'd like to take advantage of my calibration services when your unit comes in, feel free to shoot me a PM. I know the RS45 doesn't have a full CMS, but I'd still love to see what it is capable of!

Will do, though I don't seem to find as much time these days to watch as many movies.

We don't use PM anymore, so I can't PM you. I have not had time to put the add up yet.

The current JVCs is exactly what I want to compare my Pro8100 to. I would love to hear your opinions AvScienceSales when you have had a chance to compare the RS45 to the Pro8100. The current JVCs is all that I have considered upgrading to from my Pro8100 and the only reason I want to upgrade is for black level and contrast ratio with no iris. Please post a comparison when you have the time. Thanks!

Well said! Same here!

Well I got a 3rd party bulb on amazon a few days ago. So far no explosions or anything. It's not quite as bright as the original bulb but probably 95% as bright. So far so good and $150 is a lot better than $350. Even if it were to last half as long I'd still get a better value. It shouldn't be hard to match the 1500 hours on the factory bulb

Are you saying that you only got 1,500 hrs out of the original bulb?
Yeah and it's not the first projector I've had where a bulb went prematurely. I've been in the av industry in the past and bulbs seem to be one of the least reliable pieces of tech I've ever seen. Some last forever and some fail early. That's why I think going with a third party bulb can't e any more of a crap shoot than the factory bulb
post #8358 of 8980
So where should i be looking for a bulb? Been thinking of getting a spare just in case, havent really researched it yet.

There's a sponsor here but I don't see them right now and can't remember their name.

I've been holding off for Black Friday to pick up BF3 myself, but big screen gaming is definitely where it's at! The Pro8100 is definitely an amazing gaming projector as well... Basically no lag or ghosting whatsoever.

It's funny, my brother has been shopping the 65" plasmas and was pretty much sold on the Panasonic VT30 after doing the rounds at Best Buy and Frys. Later that night, we ended up playing some PS3 and watching the movie Hanna on the Pro8100 (120" screen) back at my place. He's seen the picture it puts out before, but was convinced that it would be too much trouble to get a projector in his room. I think that opinion is changing after seeing them back to back... especially since the VT30 is a $3k+ set and is nearly 1/4 the size. At that price, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to move up to JVC RS-45. My poor neglected 46" LCD panel in the family room has been relegated to my wife's DVR cast-offs . I can't ever imagine going back to a small TV as my primary set.
So are the JVCs the ones a pro8100 owner would switch to?

My buddy wants to get a projector and i was going to start the research. Only reason i wont get him a vspro8100 is he wont have time dealing with the HB.

Crazy, had they just fixed that HB... what a gold mine at <$2000

If I've learned anything about problem solving from AA meetings in movies and TV shows, the first step to resolving a problem is admitting that you have one.

VS: Banding? What banding problem? We've never heard of such a thing!
I think VS just wanted to wash their hands and get out of the HT PJ business, so they just decided that there was no banding problem.

Since their main PJ business seems to be business models, probably figured that they wouldn't lose many, if any, customers w/ this philosophy.

Quick question? And im sorry if this has been answered already...

Up to now, i turn the projector on and wait until the precision logo is nice and bright before turning on the tv box, i remember this being the best way to preserve the bulb. Is that really true or it doesn't matter if the tv is already on?

Won't make a bit of difference.

What is the thinking behind that?
Never heard that before.
