Take #3, I Finally got my camera straightened out; Nikon D200:

Projector: Marantz VP-11S1

The Fifth Element (Nordic BD) Darbee Darblet set pretty high ~60%:

I didn't realize there was yet another release of the Fifth Element. The Nordic BD looks quite different from the US release:

http://www.hd-compare.com/2009/05/fifth-element.html

I always thought the US release looked a little overcooked on the sharpening, the noise is all over the movie. The comparison claims the Nordic copy is brighter at the expense of detail? Now I have to hunt down this copy to check it out.

This is the US re-release

JVC RS55 / Nikon D90 - MPC = 1, no darbee

Yes, it's a "brighter" looking transfer and I prefer the colors a lot more than the US release. I wouldn't call the nordic release "soft" as it looks a lot more natural than the US disc. Another neat thing is that the Nordic release didn't implement any 24/1.001 slowdown so it's actually real 24.000 fps material.

The pictures in that thread don't really do the Gaumont version justice. I have the US BD too and I much prefer the look of the Gaumont release. It just looks more natural and filmlike, the US version looks a bit harsh in comparison. I guess that's due to the oversharpened look of it.

How about some more screen shots of the Runco Q750. I was out projector shopping and saw a nice demo of the 750i and boy was it really good. Maybe my next projector. I did the 3D upgrade last year (JVC RS65) and I really miss my old Marantz VP-11S2. The first 3D we watched the wife and kids hated it and I got a headache. Wen have never watched another 3D since. 3D is way overrated until they get rid of the glasses.

Every time I see a good DLP from Runco or Sim2 I remember what I want and miss.
absolutely, some more Q750 or other LED shots would be good.

The shot I took was from an early Gaumont version, not the re-mastered version. I was wondering why it was so difficult to get the yellowy hue of her skin in the pictures. I think the version I have is the same as the original German Blu-Ray, it definitely seems to be the 'coolest' colour wise.. The camera is still making this overly blue/green, the color looks closer to the US version than the Nordic release in real life.

Your Leeloo looks just fantastic !

If I'll be able to remember where I left the fotocamera I'll try posting some shots om my truvue vango
post #2770 of 2893
remember that is not the typical US re-master, there are a number of different versions being discussed which look quite difference from one another.

This one is the best by far.

There are several releases of this disk being discussed / displayed in the last few posts. I'm getting a copy of the Nordic release to compare to the US release since this is such a famous screenshot.

The Darbee is set to 60% which is quite aggressive. I'm curious to see what it's like with no processing.

Yes, I've read it. Of course the source is important but Seegs108 in his last attempt managed to convey great skin tone, colors and shadow detail. I can tell because I'm watching on a calibrated CRT with average dE < 1 and perfect 2.2 gamma.

Your shots are outstanding too, of course. smile.gif
post #2774 of 2893
you don't see a green push? I thought he mentioned the 11S1 was pushing green a bit.
His other shots were too green, but not this one. I can see some light green tint now that you mentioned it. Compared to your shot that is. I will have to see the actual source to tell which one gets.

Look what I've found:
US [REMASTERED] http://www.imagebam.com/image/06bb6e117887789
NORDIC http://www.imagebam.com/image/05a5d0117887793

I can't tell which one I prefer more, Nordic or Japanese. Nordic has red skin tones, Japanese has yellow skin tones.

I was talking about my camera, the projector is calibrated and looks really really good. My brother is a professional photographer. He came over the other night and helped me set the camera up. You wouldn't believe all the crap I was doing wrong tongue.gif

That shot is fairly accurate. Color is off just a little and It looks just a tad less sharp in real life. I was try to get that as close as possible but it's just a little too sharp. I really like this release over the US one. I'm a big fan of how it looks.
I still like the colors of the Nordic release better over the Japanese. Also it looks like there is more detail kept on the Nordic release

thanks for clarifying, the Nikon shot looks much better than the previous one's. that's probably where I saw the green push.

I found a copy, can't wait to check this out on the various projectors.

Decided to try this for the first time. Projector is JVC X90/RS65.

Epson 8345
Contrast: 25 000
Lumens: 1800
Screen: 150" DIY SF 2.0

The image seems to be little bit darker than it actually is. So its brighter in the room, not complete dark as the screenshots shows. Taken with an old OLYMPUS 7.1 megapixel.

downsized

Thanks! I've worked hard on getting the picture as accurate as possible and I'm finally satisfied smile.gif

No, the THX-mode doesn't measure very well at all on my machine (and it shows with film material too).
I've calibrated a User-mode and run 2.4 gamma. I use E-shift 3, but in combination with MadVR rendering on a HTPC. It looks a lot better (more natural) than when used in combination with standard Blu-Ray players. MadVR really is a Godsend in my opinion - chroma upscaling done right smile.gif
If I use a regular Blu-Ray I can only go as far as E-Shift 2 without artifacts starting to show - but no problems with MadVR processing.

I will post some more pictures later.
