+1. The X70/X90 is screaming for a good calibration. There isn't 1 factory gamma setting that is actually right, it must be calibrated for accurate shadow detail.
I agree and used the Service menu (UP-DOWN-RIGHT-LEFT-OK) setup patterns with the 15 white and 15 black squares (not the 16 Ansi squares) and manually adjust the gamma so all 15 white pattern squares and 15 black pattern squares can be seen.
I was playing around with my brothers Canon EOS 7D tonight. The settings were basically all set to "auto", including focus and the shots were taken without a tripod. They are a little over exposed, color seems to be off a little and isn't as tightly focused as possible. I'm not the greatest photographer...
