Star Trek into Darkness used f4 until my lamp dims a bit as f8 shows the screen gain spots.

^ Kevin your shoots look like there is a lot of artificial sharpening and DNR present in your picture, I presume that is the camera though.

Your X90 look very digital with alot of edge enhancement and way to much color, the other 2 look more natural.

We are not trying to be rude but there is something odd about some of your screenshots that looks like there is a lot of artificial sharpening and noise removal. I said the same about the Star Trek pics you posted, what camera re you using as that may be the culprit.

what are you trying to show us, how completely over-processed / over-cooked your screenshots are? cool.gif Something isn't right with these photos. The X90 cannot look that over-processed in person, even with MPC3 and Darbee @ 40%.

There are very obvious artifacts in the hair and beard. The PQ would look terrible in person if it actually looked like that.

I've noticed various posts in this thread where people are post processing their screenshots using photo-editing software. I don't get it - why are people doing that?

I like the X-70 shot the best. Kevin3000's X-90 looks awful! Obviously he thinks over sharpened, over cooked colours means more detail, better lens. Some people have a warped view of what they think is better.

I have a coworker who loves the 'Soap Opera Effect' from the frame interpolation on his television. He actually thinks that this is what HD is supposed to look like. I told him it might be ok for sports but for regular tv and movies.....shut it off. His response was.....Why get a HD tv if I'm not going to use it? Some people don't get it and neither does kevin3000.

But like my friend from work......as long as he's happy with it. It's the old adage...so who you gonna' please with that? um, me!

^ I can't wait for 4K to come down in price and content starts'a'flowing! home cinema just keeps getting better and better.

I'm a horrible photographer. The color accuracy is way off in my picture. The image is also a LOT sharper in real life. You cannot capture what the image really looks like from a digital camera. Taking photos is fun and it's fun to look at the images in this thread but no one should take these photos seriously especially if people are using them to compare two projectors. Kevin, no offense but why do all of your photos look so bad? All of them look like the actors have wax faces.

Some pictures, during the day, blinds closed but tons of ambient light.

New Sony VPL-HW50ES, Tangled Blu-ray.

Factory settings, Cinema 1, Auto full iris, lamp on "high."

Reality Creation set to ON, but set to MINIMUM, with no noise reduction or other Reality Creation settings on.

Just taken, hand-held, with my iPhone 5s. Nothing special, but to me it looks like a giant flat panel TV. Well, as giant as 100" 1.0 gain screen can be. tongue.gif Throw distance is 12 feet.

Again, this is more of a demo of how bright this projector can be at a "calibrated" setting (as Cinema 1 is as close to being, out of the box), as well as the general picture quality. I purposely included a view of the (messy!) room so you can see how much ambient light there is in there.

Close-up - standing about 6 inches away from the image:

Hey Elix, care to take any more comparison photos? (different movie or scene) I just got an HC5 (thread post and pictures are here) and I'm pondering getting a Darbee.

Thanks!
Sure, if I'll have spare time. Who do you want me to compare with? But I'll double what Seegs has said:

It'll be kinda worthless for you since you've already bought HC5 and second, your HC5 won't look like mine (difference in calibration and setup).
