Looking for a 720p DLP Projector with the vertical stretch for under 1 grand

Ok, here is the situation I'm dealing with. I really want to do CIH, but unfortunately, I bought the wrong projector a year ago. Well, a year ago I was thinking CIH, but that's another story. I have a Mitsubishi HD1000u projector, and I love it in every way, except the fact that it doesn't do the vertical stretch for HD material. I primarily want to do this for Blu Ray and HD-DVD movies. So I need to be able to do the vertical stretch with HD sources.

Ok, so I got this Mits, but it doesn't do it, so I've basically got two options:

Option 1: Keep the Mits and get a scaler

Option 2: Sell the Mits used for a loss and buy another projector

I'm thinking that option 2 makes more sense. I know I'm going to take a hit on selling my used HD1000u, but I still think it would be cheaper to sell my Mits, and buy another 720P DLP for around a grand, that can do the vertical stretch. For example, let's say I take a $300 loss on selling my used Mits. That's still better than paying a full $600 for a scaler, right?

Is there a particular 720P DLP projector for just under a grand that would be ideal for me? I don't want to end up with picture quality that is less than what I'm currently getting with this Mits, and I think this Mits is absolutely outstanding.

Under a grand and not lose PQ? I would suggest option 1...

I saw your post in the scaler section- Given everything- you like the MITS and would take a hit if you lost on it, a scaler may be the way to go. Your thinking made sense in the other thread- Take the dollars from the sold Mits and combine the monies with your scaler dollars and buy a better pj that can do CIH.

A scaler may well improve overall pq and has a handful of benefits that could provide you with a better overall package. Among the 1k DLPs that do CIH- I don't know which supports it but the choices overall are good but thin compared to lcd- Marantz VP4001, Optoma HD7100 come to mind, street pricing, when you catch the right special and of course, the IF 7210. One of those has to support it, I think the Infocus does as it does for a number of its other PJs. Would likely be considered the best among the pack and does 650 lumens calibrated, watchable modes.

The 7210 may be the best bet of all, in my estimation.

My Mits was under a grand. Isn't the Optoma HD70 under a grand? That's a true 720p with the scaling abilities, right? When I was shopping for the Mits HD1000u, the HD70 was a pretty strong competitor, but it was thought that the Mits was slightly better. Of course, back then, I had no knowledge of CIH.

I picked up an Optoma HD79 for $1,100.00 (it was a factory referb) on ebay.

720p native and does the stretch. It also has a native setting that I like. It's close to the 16:9 setting , but a little different.

My son and I watched Ratatouille last night and this thing does a great job on 720p.I use an Oppo 971 as this DVD player has DVI out with scaling to 720p

I'm displaying onto a 100" wide SMX from about 11 feet away. The PJ throw is 165".Very,very quiet.

I know it's $100 over budget, but info is info.

Hello,

I recommend the Optoma H79 which you can get between $1000 and $1300. It's a superb pojector that looks great. It has the DarkChip 3, 250 Watts Light Bulb, 1000 Lumens, probably your best bet.

Hopefully I can sell it for $999 minus the processor. Then I would basically get the HD3000 scaler for under $300. Wish me luck, lol.

Keeping the HD7300 and selling the Mits is another option but more expensive.
It is a better pj.
