Shrek the Third early release

I stopped by my local West Cost Video last night to see what kind of HDM collection they had available.

To my surprise, they were neutral. They even had a few new releases for both formats. I was surprised because last time I was there, I saw 5 copies of X-men 3 on BD and that was it.

Anyways, I saw "Shrek the Third" HD DVD and I thought it was a mistake.

'Twas not.

I look forward to viewing this disc earlier than I expected. I enjoyed the 2nd one thoroughly.

It actually has a lot to live up to, considering I just experienced (not watched) the masterpiece BD known as "Ratatouille" which has become my new reference disc since viewing it twice already.

I'm pretty sure I'll be blown away by the HD DVD of this 3rd Shrek film.

lucky you.

Does anyone know if a shrek trilogy set is being released on HD DVD?
Some people find TMNT, Surf's Up and the others you listed to be not as good as Shrek 3. I would be one of them.
I'm hoping the HD disc has a reference quality picture.
I personally, thought TMNT and Surf's Up were aweful, whereas I thought Shrek 3 was watcheable. Cars was o.k. and have yet to see Ratatouille.
Let's not fan the flames Blumoon.

Meh. Drek 3 was just bad start to finish. It's a shame they couldn't have released all three next week, the first 2 are must haves.
I just don't understand how people say that Shrek 1 and 2 are must haves, and Shrek 3 stinks. Although I agree Shrek 3 is my least favorite of the collection, I do not think it is as far off the mark as everyone says. After all, Shrek 3 is still Shrek. I guess it is the same as comparing Spiderman 3 to Spiderman 1 and 2. And if I had to pick between these 2, I enjoyed Shrek 3 more than Spiderman 3.

I agree with iceperson. Shrek 3 wasn't that good. Shrek 1 was really good and Shrek 2 was good. Why didn't they release a boxset?
I think we all agree that they should have released the set, but foolishly they did not. And I also agree that this one is the weakest of the three, but I do enjoy the characters, so I will buy 3.
I watched about 20 minutes of the "Third" got bored and turned it off...not nearly as good as the first 2!
I watched Shrek 3 on a DLP screen at the cinema so it will be interesting to see just what it looks like at home.

I have to agree with previous posters though that it is the weakest of the three movies and that I would have preferred to see the other two films released this week as well.
My guess is that they will release the third one, then they will go with the individual movies followed by a boxset.
I still haven't seen it, but if it is as close to reference quality as it can be, then i will definately buy it. it has to be better than happy feet. that movie was a waste of everybody's time.

I fell asleep halfway through. It looked good, I wouldn't say great.

Maybe I'm just jaded by Ratatouille.

I'll give it another go later on this weekend. Maybe the rain here in the east coast had something to do with my inadvertent slumber session.

Shrek 3 is the weakest of the 3 but it is still pretty good.

Ratatouille is a good movie but my kids didn't like it as much as my wife and I did. My kids are almost 2 and almost 4 years old.

I don't have Blu-Ray so I had to settle for the SD version. Still looked really good.

Does anyone have some pics of this? I've heard reports that it looks like reference material but no shots so far.

any movie going into their third of a series is gonna be the worst of the trilogy
spiderman3 was the worst of the 3,alien 3 was the worst of the 3,rush hour 3 was the worst of the 3,matrix 3 was the worst of the 3 ,pirates 3 was the worst of the 3 ,is their any series that had the 3rd one better then the first 2 ???

+1

Shrek 3 was horrible...extremely boring IMO. We loved 1 & 2 though..shame they had to screw the series up.

This isn't meant as an attack against Shrek 3 per say, but if anyone is considering purchasing this only for eye candy please reconsider! There are plenty of better looking movies with more entertaining plots.

This is probably sacrilege to most, but my favorite Mad Max is Beyond Thunderdome. Two men enter, one man leaves.

The third bourne was not weak at all. But your right, besides that and ROTK, nothing really comes to mind.

Completely agree on all counts.

Adding to the topic of the third movie being the strongest, I would like to add two more: Return of the Jedi & Superman 3 - (C'mon it has Richard Pryor, the evil twin Superman, and some hysterical video game sound effects)
I find that Star Wars Epside 3 is better than 1 or 2.

Also, Star Wars Return of the Jedi is better than the previous 2.

Superman 3 was the most disappointing movie I ever seen as a kid. I'm surprised you really liked that on.

Oh, and ROTK was great. I'd love to see LOTR series hit Blu-Ray/HD-DVD. And I actually liked Spiderman 3. I haven't seen Shrek 3 and was planning on picking it up but after reading this thread I'm not so sure now. Maybe I should wait and see if a sale hits on Amazon or the day after Turkey day for the HD-DVD.

I know a lot of people that would say Goldfinger was better than the first two 007 outings

I havent seen the 3rd Shrek yet but I'm sure I'll pick it up on HD once released. I really liked the the first two so I remain optomistic on the 3rd. Also add me to the list of folks scratching their head over the fact that Paramount/Dreamworks didn't do this as a box set like Sony did with Spiderman or Fox is doing with Die Hard.
I was disappointed by Shrek 3 but still might pick it up.It wasn't bad, just not as good as 1 and 2.Funny enough, most adults i talk to that either bought the Ratatouille dvd or BRD quickly found out that they really liked the movie alot. Those with kids found mostly that the kids lost interest in the movie after a little while.Imo Ratatouille was geared more towards adults that have alot of Nostalgia for the Disney releases of old(all theater in those days).I'm a member of that crowd and i loved Ratatouille.

Certainly Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was an exception, way better than number two and on par with the first.
