Has anyone successfully updated to Europe & UK vers 2.7? If so, could they explain what software they used.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far.

Almost hate to ask, but you're not trying to put Euro firmware in a US player or vice versa?

Doesn't do you any good...but for kicks I downloaded firmware for my BD65, burned the disk using XP's built in function as the Panasonic instructions show, and it worked straight away. The L FVU message came up but I just left it alone and it completed successfully first time. Point being, the process works.

I burned a music compilation to the same brand of cd-r that I have used for update discs. The music disc works flawlessly.

DVDs work perfectly well. And I have now tried 6 blu-rays, 5 of which work.

The one that doesn't work (Mad Max2) which I was given with the (free) player was still in it's cellophane wrapper. I am not 100% sure that it's region 2 but as it has loaded once I suppose it must be.

I want to persevere a little longer as it was free and produces good results. So...

I'm going to install roxio and try that but have 3 more questions.

1. I have looked for instructions to clear the cache but cannot find any. How is this done?
2. If I restore factory settings is the software going to be vers 1.0? Because if it is, and I still can't update, then I may create more playability problems.
3. Has anyone used Ubuntu (linux) to create a disc? This is the operating system I use now.

Thanks again.

Again, are you absolutely positive you're trying to install the correct firmware for the version of player?
I selected the Europe and UK update. The version offered was 2.7. This is, I assume, the latest version for Europe and UK.
I downloaded it and extracted it. It is definitely the correct software for my region unless Panasonic have dropped a clanger.
So all the things I have tried since my initial post have been with the correct software and the machine doesn't inherently dislike the disc brand I'm using as a music CD works fine.
I use linux on a laptop mainly but cannot find a linux ready update file so am trying to create a disc using an old desktop PC with XP that is essentially a filing cabinet for photos etc.
The PC originally had some roxio software but that is long gone. I have tried a couple of free CD burning apps, the latest being CDBurnerXP as per my previous posts, but always with the results I've described.
I'm going to try downloading roxio again but as I am totally ignorant about iso9660, joliet or UDF I am not overly optimistic.
If I succeed in updating I may not notice any difference but I now have an itch that I really want to scratch.

Maybe it was mentioned earlier and I missed it. Is the player a Euro / UK version player?

What is the full model number from the back (or bottom) panel?
I have finally managed to update to version 2.7!

I couldn't find a free trial roxio download so I tried infrarecorder instead. I simply dragged the update file to the bottom panel and burned the CD. It updated in about 4 minutes and the status check confirmed my new version.

However, Mad Max 2 still does not load. It must be a disc problem as I have now tried 8 films and this is the only one that fails.

Can anyone advise me how to tell what region a disc is or if it is region free. There is nothing on the case that is leaping out at me.

Also, someone mentioned memory cache. Can anyone explain what this is and how to clear it.

Thanks

Glad you got it updated.

1. All BD discs list the region on the back cover of the BD case. A, B, C or ABC(all region)

2. Mad Max 2: Are you getting an error? Try putting an SD card in the player. Some movies require it. Not sure about this one.

SOLVED.....

Took me several hours to get this right, but thanks to browsing through several older forums, finally in the end updated to 2.7.

I had tried Win 7 native CD burning, Imgburn, power2go etc - none of them worked - kept on having the "e disk" error.

I then downloaded Nero Burning Rom 12 (using 14 day free trial), and this works.

Here's step-by-step what I did:

>On opening Nero, New Compilation box appears.
>Under CD area - scroll down to "CD-ROM (ISO)"
>Settings under ISO tab are automatically set, and says Mode 1/ISO 9660 + Juliet
>Click NEW and it takes you to the main menu
>In FILE BROWSER on RHS of screen, navigate to the PANA_DVD.FRM file. Drag it to the LHS panel
>On menu bar, click BURN
>In the BURN COMPILATION box, I clicked WRITE, FINALIZE and VERIFY
>Click BURN to burn the CD

Place CD in bluray and close tray.
It then cycles through the following:
READ
BYE
L FVU
L DRV
L MAIN
W DRV
W MAIN
FINISH

Am amazed the CD file needed to be so precise to work though.

Hope it helps

I hadn't upgraded mine since 2.5 and I had trouble playing Side by Side. I had previously downloaded 3.1, but never installed it. After the upgrade to 3.1, Side by Side played perfectly.

My BD30 was also demoted to the MBR. It has the 3.1 FW installed and it played Skyfall flawlessly.

My BD30 is in my dedicated HT and it has played everything I've thrown at it flawlessly with all FW including the latest 3.1.
i'm still on 2.8... haven't had a reason to go any higher... unless the current fw cuts down load times or something.

My apologies if this issue has already come up on the BD30 thread, but I am having persistent problems with my unit talking to an Integra DTC 9.8 pre/pro (both purchased in 2008). Because of the outboard decoding of Master HD and True HD in the Integra, the two units spar repeatedly until they settle down and shake hands. This symptom is particularly prevalent during BD trailers, loading bars etc. I am sure that this is the cause of my occasional sound and picture drop-outs. Is this a problem any of you BD30 owners have experienced? Is there a solution? Or does conventional wisdom now point to buying a Blu-ray player that processes the codecs onboard?

I have an Onkyo TX-SR875 and I don't remember having that issue. Shortly after that I demoted the BD30 to the MBR. I will disconnect it and try a couple of titles and get back to you. Have you done any software upgrades to your unit? Also check the forums. BTW why don't you post the titles you had problems with?

Thanks, Zenyatto. It doesn't seem to be title-specific, but I will check that. The disruption is usually during trailers and quick changes at the start of a disc. All my equipment is firmware-updated. I've also just purchased a new BDT220 for $80 so I will see if that's less buggy this week.

I have two Oppo BDP-83's connected to the HT. I started watching Predators and I had to press > button to finally get to the movie menu.
