I just got home with one to!

I feel very much the same way as HDMAN but since I am (have been) planning all along to get the Denon Blu ray unit I will most likely sale my 95FD soon. Then I can use the Panny until it shows up. And when it does hit (the Denon) the Panny is the perfect size to squeeze into the entertainment center in our master bedroom!

I will report my observations later but so far Robert, Brad, HDMAN and many others are right about those insanely quick LOAD times!

P.S. Anyone want a 3 week old 95FD?

That's good news. Have you been able to compare the SD playback to another player, an A/B comparison?

Thanks for the insight Joe, I've appreciated your reviews in the past. If you can, please shed light on it's SD playback. It would be great if you could do an A/B comparison with the XA2/A35.

I plan to. I just got it hooked up. I will need a couple of days to dissect it. So far I am impressed with what I see. It has officially replaced the sammy 1400 as the best bang for the buck Blu ray player.

I don't need to... I have watched "The 6th Day" on a Sony upscalable mega changer, the HD-XA2, the HD-A35 and the 95FD and it is every bit as good as the best of this lot... IMHO. Very impressive.

Trust me, I would love to pull an all-nighter but I have not slept much this past week because of the Onkyo firmware rollout. I have now officially sent out 1,004 firmware updates (875s + 905s) so it has been busy!

well the second unit does the same thing. if i put my sony bd player back on the rack usng the same cables/inputs and all is well. my hd dvd player also is fine. i am not sure what the issue is, but there is one fore sure.

So what is the pall park figure for the new Panasonic? $500....

Just got the player in the rack. Very light. Not as "heavy" as I would prefer. Setup was easy and quick. The splash screen doesn't say Panasonic anywhere, just Blu Ray and the Blu Ray logo. Kind of neat looking. 24p is being passed to my Sony Pearl projector. Power cable can be replaced if you prefer (might be important to some).

Popped in Day after tomorrow Blu Ray to make sure it was passing DTS HD MA to my Integra 9.8. Bingo, works like a charm.

Loaded Ratatouille and Cars to check load times. I didn't time it with a stop watch, but it appears as fast as the PS3. Pretty impressive for a stand alone. Fastest stand alone I have seen on either format. I have had owned the Samsung 1000,1200,1400, sony BDP-s1 and the Toshiba HD A1 at one point or another.

If someone would like me to check something, feel free to ask.

This player looks like a winner.

One question, is the 30 worth replacing my PS3?

I like it but i want the bitstreaming, front panel display and DTS-HD.

Terence, I still own the PS3. It has been a workhorse, but I really wanted a stand alone.

If you haven't had the pleasure of listening to DTS HD MA on your Integra 9.8, you are in for a shock. DTS HD MA soundtracks are by far the best IMHO. I had the Samsung 1400 for about two weeks. I returned the 1400 because of slow load times.

I think there are still some black level issues with the PS3. I don't know if it has been addressed yet or not.


Two things Panasonic could have done to improve this player,

1. Built it like the Sony BDP-s1. By far the best build quality of any Blu Ray player.
2. Ethernet port should have been a no brainer.

No i haven't and would love to b/c i have a few Fox BD, and this baby waiting to be heard via the 9.8.........



Listening to just the core is not enough for me, also i think the PS3 is doing something funny when sending Dolby TrueHD via LPCM. I just prefer bit-streaming over on board decoding. Looks like the PS3 is about to be replaced w/ the BD30K, thx for the help buddy and everyone else in this thread.

What is on that presentation disc?? I haven't seen one of those.

I prefer bitstreaming to my pre/pro also.

Let me say that the core sounds outstanding so i can only imagine what the full version sounds like, i higly recommend this disc!

Checked the CC site three or four times today hoping these would come up for local pickup and nothing. Just checked before going to bed and BAM!!! local stock. Used a AAA 10% coupon and will pick it up tomorrow. I will now sell off one of my PS3 60's. Been looking for a decent stand alone since I took my Samsung 1200 back and it sounds like the BD30 will be right at home in my rack with the HD-XA2.

One extra question, can I see the remaining time on a title? The PS3 got very good display options (remaining time of title, chapter, bitrate, audio format etc), how are the display options on the BD30?

There have been a number of comments along this line.

Having paid to recycle 670+ pounds of once upon a time state-of-the-art electronics earlier this year, much of it built like a brick (a 6 lb. original IBM PC keyboard, for instance), I have it say it: I used to think like this, too. Now I think If it's built well enough to last six or eight years or maybe ten, then it's built well enough. Anything else is just wasted and will wind up in the dump/recycler just as well and just as soon and cost more at the front end.

Well said...I feel this way about cars too. A BMW or Mercedes with 250,000 miles is just as worthless as a Ford Focus with 250,000 miles... over engineered junk at that point...

but isn't there just something about an av cable that is as thick as your wrist?

Plus, I love looking up at my shiny black 210lb pj hanging directly above my head.

The BD30 suddenly showed up as available at a local CC store last night, so I used the 10% coupon and went to pick it up. This is my first high def player. Very happy with it so far, both for BD and SD (compared with my Denon 1930) hooked up to my Mitsubishi 46" 1080p LCD which supports 24p. Next week I''m planning to get the Denon 3808 to replace my 3805, then hopefully I'll be set for a while...

I recycle, I drive a Prius. So the environment is important to me.

When it comes to amps, source components,processors and speakers, the heavier the better.

Personally, I do think that if a speaker is heavier it is mechanically held to the ground better. I would also believe that a heavier Blu Ray player (BDP-S1), would have better shielding against EM and less vibration.

JMHO.......

I plan to give it a good workout today... I'll post back in awhile...

Been waiting for this player to arrive as I was narrowing my choice between this and the Samsung Bp1400.

Just go ahead and buy one...They will price match a cheaper price within 30 days...I garantee it will be available for 479.99 (or less) at other dealers within that time...They will have to refund you the difference...
