I've had an Infinity Intermezzo 1.2s as the sub in my B&W system for the last 4 years or so and I've always been a fan of the 4.1ts and 2.6s that match it.
I'm finally pulling the plug and upgrading what I think has been the weakest link in my system for a while (the B&Ws). I almost went with av123s rockets with their great special but instead am going with the Intermezzos.
The question is, should I go with a phantom center or should I try and pick up the Intermezzo 3.5c (which is reportedly a very good center, but I've never heard it). It seems to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that there are two reasons to use a center, 1. to take load off your mains and 2. to tie the sound to the TV for off axis viewers. I wouldn't think 1 would be too big of a need with the big 4.1ts and 2 I don't care that much about because I'll always be sitting on axis and my friends and family are generally not big audiophiles, so I doubt they'll even notice (sonically) that there isn't a center, or care much if they did.
The other question is, do I ditch the 1.2s or do I run 3 12 inch subwoofers? I'm a little worried about setup with subs in 2 different areas of the room, so 3 makes it even more worrisome. But I would think the RABOS and some treatments might make everything okay.
Again, correct me if I'm wrong, if I ditch the 1.2s sub then I'll set all speakers to small, run a splitter for the LFE and then the 2 12s will be getting the LFE for all 4 (or 5) channels.
If I keep the 1.2s sub it seems like they only way to really hook it up would be to run the mains as large and run them off speaker level input, in which case the subs on the 4.1ts will just be getting low freq sound for the front two channels, and the 1.2s sub will be getting low req sound from the surrounds (and center, if present) only. I'm not sure if the Denon 3806 has a L/R+LFE setting for the sub, and I'm not home to check, so that'd change things if it does.
