ok well i have Cox communications as my cable provider. I do not want to pay for another, Cable box each month. I would like to get a DVB-T card in my media center to be able to decode the signal and get all my 300-400 channels. What card do i need for this. Also does anyone reccomend an OS that works well for a media center. I want something that boots up fast and easy. I was thinking Sage TV like, but free...

DVB-T is for OTA trasmissions Outside the US such as in Europe which use DVB-T instead of ATSC for OTA digital.
There is no Free solution to get all of your channels since even if you get a Cable Card PC you will still have to pay your cable company to lease a cable card to use with the cable card tuner.

Almost all of the TV tuner/video capture cards from ATI, Hauppauge, AverMedia etc will accept the SD 480i Cable output from your cable supplier's STB. Check their websites for the products that will support your configuration.

ok well i have a HD TV up there. I see the Happuage site for HVR cards that support HD TV. Now, first off i must ask, ok i want to get this card. I will run the cable from my box, will that get me all like 700 channels i normally get???

2. I have the xbox 360 media center remote, is there any way i can program that to work with my HTPC. Finally, i need a good frontend for my HTPC. I have Win XP and Ubuntu. What do you suggest. I personally do not want to pay for software, i had a copy of sage tv, but there is no serial...

You have to have a separate STB from your cable company to receive the cable channels that you subscribe to and then you will only get them in SD 480i. There is no free lunch, you will not get any of them in HD.

I want...I want...I want...all for free. Sure, like that's gonna happen. What you want is NOT doable. You think Cox is just gonna let you do that without paying. There is a reason why Cox and any other cable tv providers encrypt their channels and that is to force you to use their STB. Cablecard, as already mentioned is your only other option but you have to buy a new PC for that. Feeding the output from your STB to a PC is just not an option if you want HD. All these cards that you see that can do HD can only do it if it is UNENCRYPTED. The only channels that will find Cox gives you unencrypted is your locals and that is it and you can get those for free OTA. You want HBOHD, ShowtimeHD ESPN HD, not gonna happen with any card, period.
