HD A2 HDMI Handshake Question

I have both my HD A2 and my Xbox 360 hooked up via HDMI to my Samsung HDTV. Problem is I need to power up each one to get my Sammy to recognize the HDMI connection. Is this typical with HDMI connections? My HD DVR from DirecTV is always recognized whether it is powered on or off.

Possibly.

I too have a Samsung DLP with 2 HDMI inputs. It doesn't recognize the HDDVD player unless it is on before the TV is switched on. Sometimes it wont recognize the Cable HD box unless its on.
