Sears is currently offering the Panasonic DMP-BD65 at $99.99 thru December 11, 2010, or while quanities last! This is better than the price of a reconditioned unit.

I ordered mine on Nov 26 and finally received it today. However, Panasonic charged my CC $191 instead of $137. After 1.5 hours on hold the rep said it would be corrected, although she did not know whether they would credit $191 and then charge me $137 or just credit me the difference.

So, definitely check your statements.

My Panny BD85 arrived on Friday 12/3.
My new 42" TV also arrived Friday, so I got to set it all up after work.
The BD85 was pretty easy to set up and the WiFi worked without any issue using my preferred encryption it just worked.
Did a bit of calibration on the screen and watched some Avatar and some Incredibles and then much HDTV. Kids played games and it's definitely all good.

My card was charged the correct amount, Panasonic didn't answer CS emails and their site was FUBAR but I received the unit quickly and was charged correctly so I'm not complaining, especially about getting this nice player for $135 ($127.50 plus) to my door.

Last night I got a "Delivery Survey" from Panasonic thanking me for my purchase and saying that I should have received my order and they would like me to participate in a survey. I received it last week. Great buy but lousy purchase experience.

I got that survey too! I may not be real kind where the customer service is concerned.

It looks like you can't even get the BD85 thru Panasonic any more.

Newegg has it for $180

And if you are on the subscriber list, you could probably get it a few $$$ cheaper.

THat seems to be the normal price for the unit now. J&R has been advertising it as a price drop to $179.

I had my share of troubles getting the BD85 from Panasonic too. They didn't want to honor their online price, when you placed it in your online cart, the price increased over $40. I was on hold forever with CS also, then asked for a manager, then their manager. My patience paid off.

The top manager I got hold of said that they were backordered anyway, but they were willing to honor the $137.50 price if I wanted to wait for it. I didn't. I told him I could get it on Amazon if I knew I'd have all these problems. So, he offered to reimburse me for any amount over $137.50 when I submitted my amazon invoice to him. I ordered it, I have it in hand, and I faxed the invoice. Today, Panasonic called me and said they received my fax and the check would be cut within a week.

Horrible wait times on hold, bad customer support, but if you stuck it out, it's worth it. The manager also told me the online problems were due to the company that manages their website. Apparently, they were supposed to change the price immediately after Cyber Monday, but they were having problems with only the cart changing the price, and not the actual page that you view the product on. Hence, all the people like me that felt like we should get the product for $137.50.

I saw an ad for J&R music world in the local NYC paper today for their special weekend sale and they had the sony s570 listed for $139. I came home and went online and it's $179. I do live in NYC but would rather just order it with free shipping. Any ideas why the price would be different? They ARE advertising the same weekend sale. Same graphics and everything...

Costco has the Panny 655 (Costco's version of the 65) on sale for $99 through 12/19 (if memory serves). Seems like a solid choice for a slightly beyond entry level machine, to be paired with my 42" S2..?

Yes/no/maybe?

Am also considering the 85 but with my wireless G home network, would I pretty much have to upgrade to N to achieve the speeds necessary to successfully (consistently) stream Netflix, etc?

May have some wires run, including running Internet access to the TV/Bluray area of my house...(and thereby avoiding the wireless issue).

Thanks.

Thanks.

If you have a typical cable internet service of 15Mbps download, your wireless G router will be sufficient, considering it's capable (theroretically) of 54Mbps.

Keep in mind however, that during peak hours your download speed can drop so low as to make streaming difficult and in some cases impossible. Check you speeds at different times of the day and you'll see what I mean....www.speakeasy.net is the one I usually use and have seen my 15Mbps service drop down as low as 1Mbps at times.

When you buy a 160GB PS3 for $299 from Amazon - you get a $75 Amazon credit. If you order from them as much as we do, $224 is a great price on a PS3 slim.

Your G router should work just fine, as a matter of fact, perfectly. The only limiting factor is your DSL speed.

Thank Vin and Ruadmaa..

I will likely start with wireless and see how things go. We have Comcast cable and a "claimed" 12-15 Mbps.

I do check Speakeasy from time to time and tend to see less than that in actual use...What is a "minimum" transfer rate for unimpeded wireless viewing?

From Netflix:

To watch in HD on your TV via a Netflix Ready Device, you need the following:
  • A high-speed internet connection at time of playback (typically 5 Mbps or higher)

Just realized I was posting in thread reserved for deals...sorry about that.

Man trying to get this at the lowest price is like watching a rock drop off a cliff. I bought one online a week ago from costco for $150 + tax. Then got another off crutchfield for $139 no tax or shipping. Now Costco has it in stock at local store for 129.99. Looks like I am stuck w/ the Crutchfield price unless I want to wait and pay for return shipping on it. Will Crutchfield price match other competitors/ comp me? All in all a very good deal for a WIFI built in, 3D capable, 1GB HDD in a blu-ray player. Is there better bang for your buck below $140?
