This has been a public forum announcement.

Hope this is OK to say. But is it just me or have the prices of players gone up $100? I don't find any under $300 anymore.

In my city a woman was killed after a man lured her to his house after she responded to a fake nanny position on craigslist. That's the real world.

This is a great thread to consolidate deals. The only reason TV price discussion isn't allowed is because the sponsors of the site would get upset (IMO).

No, it not you. The prices have gone up. I think the Blu group senses that the format war is over and are pulling back the subsidies to the retailers. Bad mistake. There are former HD-DVD owners and the general public that are looking for Blu units. $400 units are not going to sell well to people who bought HD-DVD units and saw Blu units under $300. Not to mention the other 95% of market that are non-HD. The Blu group has great momentum but they may be losing a great chance to sell units. Larger dollar purchases tend to slow greatly at the end of January begining of February. That's when the Chistmas credit card bill start to roll in.

^^I agree with IMNuts as I have seem that recently in the past 2 weeks or so and instead of slowing the momentum from "winning the war" with price increases they should continue the momentum with sale prices on the Blu-ray players.

Marketing people shut down after Christmas to catch their breath and regroup. Their busiest time of the year are the 3 months leading up to the holidays.
^^Normally that is true but since this past holiday season the retailers weren't doing so well as prior years due to current economic conditions. They were extending sales trying to eek out some sort of profit.

46" 1080p Sharp Aquos and Sharp blu-ray player for $1699

I just upgraded my parents Christmas gift to this at Fry's (price match after returned the other set). I'm quite impressed with the Sharp, it is pretty fast and the TV and Blu-ray player automatically switched to 24p mode upon hook up.

Picture quality is fantastic

I'm still unsure whether I'll be getting a 40, 60, or 80gb, but I am pretty much fixed on a ps3 What are the best deals out there right now other than the Sonystyle?
Hey guys -- I'm not sure if this has been posted already. Please disregard if it has.

You can get $100 credit with a SonyStyle card if you purchase a PS3. Now here's where this could be better than previous deals (or it could be the same with bad wording):
".. and receive $100 card credit when you purchase PS3 system at any authorized dealer."

Now does this mean we can buy the PS3 at any store we want... as long as they are Sony authorized dealer?

I am not 100% sure but IIRC it has to be purchased through SonyStyle website or a SonyStyle store to get the $100 credit.

The ad I have it can be purchased at any authorized retailer.

Yep. In the same boat as well.

The HD-DVD camp just lowered their prices. http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-984...tfd.blogs.item.

Hopefully that means a competitive parry is coming from the Blu-Ray camp ... we'll see.

Amazon is now offering $400 off the Panasonic DMP-BD30K blu-ray player with the purchase of select Panny plasmas. That makes this player only $9.99 with the tv.

The extra 10% applies only if you had already/previously purchased the product at the pre-PM price--BB's PM policy explicitly states this. Some folks will offer that they were able to get the 10% anyways but that is clearly a YMMV--IOW BB is within their right not to give you the additional 10% if you hadn't yet purchased it at the pre-PM price, per policy.

Yes, I thought about doing that. However, I decided to use that $98 bucks to defray the cost of the next player. I'm thinking of getting the PS3 from Sonystyle. With the credit card offer and the $100 from the A2, that leaves me $200 out of pocket for a new player. I might consider spending this for a PS2 because Sony is not going leave it behind like the 300 and almost every other 1st and 2nd generation BR player when profile 2.0 hits.

In other news Sams Club is blowing out the Toshiba HD-DVD players for $120 today, HD-D3

lol

C'mon Blu Ray....play nice!!! Lets get this sucker where everyone can afford it and lets just all watch some movies already. Geeeze
post #1702 of 13491
^^I was in Costco today and they had the Toshiba HD-D3 on sale also for the same price and it looked like the stack of boxes were gathering a lot of dust after the recent announcement of Blu-ray winning the format war.

I just went to sonystyle.com and could not find the $100 rebate offer when using a sonystyle.com card. Is this deal still going on, and if so can someone give me a link to it?

There are two offers. Mine posted above is for a PS3 purchased anywhere. IMNuts's offer is for a purchase only at sonystyle.com. Choose what suits you best.

Thanks guys.

With all the cut throat pricing going on for HD-DVD players, I wonder if HD-DVD is going to end up selling more software/hardware. I hope BD guys lower their prices sooner rather than later.
I dont think they are. But thats what Im waiting for too. I bought the A3 when I saw it for 199.00 and all those free DVD's.
