Yeah, until a friend rained on my parade saying that this player has a lot of problems playing movies. Now I'm wondering if I should return it and get a PS3.

Yep, I went over to BJs at lunch to price some luggage. They are now officially at $279, which is good sinc emany places are still advertising $399. Too bad they sold out of the remaining in one day though. No biggie for me, I am holding out for the $200 price point for purely philosophical reasons.

well, i couldn't resist. went to my sam's and they had two 301s in the markdown section. not sure why they were returned. maybe they couldn't play certain movies.

i checked the box and everything was there and everything looked new.

paid $327. Not as good as $279, but I can live with it.

I was at Costco in Gaithersburg MD today and went down the aisle where the Sony's were located and they still had a price on them of $449 (that's what I had bought mine for). I returned my S301 and went to Best Buy and purchased a Panny 30K. I'd heard such great things about this new Panny ... I'll be testing it tonight.

So the best price black frida is still around 300-400 bucks? I was hoping there would be a 199 or less player on black friday.

Yup, I guess Thursday would be for the Friday sale and Friday would be for the Saturday sale and since we were talking about the PS3 which we all hope will be on sale Saturday then...............Friday

Hope that wasn't too confusing

I have a 300 and I haven't had any problems with it playing movies. Boot up time is on the slow side, but not too bad. The picture quaility is very good. The only downside is that the BDP-S300 lacks support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks. Maybe a future fw update will take care of this. Overall, I think that you will be very happy with the 300, especially at the price you paid.

Newegg has the sharp for $399.
(Seems like there's better deals on other players, but this is the best I've seen for the Sharp.)
seems like you would see better deals with bluray players, not really worth going out friday.

I saw this ad scan for Fry's Black Friday for the San Diego,San Marcos area.

If nothing else, it will drive down the prices of older models on ebay. I want a Samsung 1000 for $150.

http://shop1.outpost.com/ShopCartSer...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG $330.00 for the Sony from fry's .com.

Was at my sister-in-laws this past weekend in West Palm Beach and found an ad about a place called Brandsmart USA. Went to it, reminded me a little like Fry's. Had the Samsung 1400, Sony 300, And Sharp 20u all priced at $298. Because of there track records took a chance on the Sharp. Have not hooked it up yet. That's $318 out the door!

You get 40GB + Spiderman 3 BR + NBA 2008 + Open Season BR + 5 via Mail for $399

Update: It also looks like you can add a free $10 gift card for getting the PS3 and NBA 2008. I didn't see it until after I order so someone else will have to confirm.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage...&type=category

I chose to sell everything but the PS3 to recoup some cost since I'll be getting the Trilogy of Spiderman and don't care about NBA 2008. I'll probably keep open season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
$100 price drop
PRICE: $399
free Spiderman 3 with player
$100 gift card instantly (11/23 and 11/24 in store, 11/22 online)
5 free discs by mail in rebate
--------------------------------------------------------------------

So basically you get the player for $399 with Spiderman 3 and 5 discs by mail, and then you have a $100 gift card to go spend on movies.

Not a bad deal at all, especially for the average consumer who knows nothing about the audio features this player is missing.

COOL! Just ordered mine!! Looks like I am now HD and BD !!

The newspaper ad shows $499 for the BDP-300 not $399 which by the way was the price for the player in store Wednesday without the "gift card". In no way will Sony or Best Buy score any points or move much product with these misleading sales tactics. There are no signs of any real "Blu Bargins" for black Friday in the central Florida area.

I agree the ad says $499 with the $100 gift card, but all the deal is supposed to be $399 with a $100 gift card. The ad is misleading.

And which price do you think they will honor?? If you have nothing in writing at$399 plus the $100 gift card "it aint gonna happen"

the ads have been printed for weeks. at the time the ad was made up, the deal was $499 w/ spiderman 3 and a $100 gift card.

since then they've dropped the price of the s300 to $399 and the gc and spidey are still included this weekend. you shouldn't have a problem getting this in store. if you're worried about it then just order online. they have free shipping and you don't have to worry about the black friday madness.

Some people just don't get it do they???

Are you reading any of this thread and about a dozen people linking the same deal?

Ads are put together and preprinted weeks beforehand. ANy print you see is probably outdated, and this deal just got announced.

Wow! great deal! Brandsmart is in Florida and Georgia. it's a miserable place to shop due to high pressure commission-only sales, and the need to pick most items up at the hot, miserable loading dock, but there's no-place on the planet that's cheaper. Not on anything. In fact, it's the only place to buy a TV. If it's 2599 at BB you can get it at Brandsmart for 1999 if you know how to haggle.

If those BD players are stickered at $298 it wouldn't surprise me if you could get out the door with one for $269.

I totally "get it" but millions of average customers will never know about the better deal on the BB website and the stores will surely honor the lower price. The main point is that an excellent marketing opportunity was screwed up, no corrections printed in the papers, and unlike many of US...the average black Friday customer does not visit this forum.

Remember you must pay sales tax on the $399 price so the actual discount is only $93 or less depending on your state sales tax. Not an exceptional offer, which was probably changed from $499 to $399 after Sony got their a** kicked when Walmart and Best Buy sold close to 100,000 HD-DVD players two weeks ago for $99!
