I agree 100% with your assessment. Both Hi-def formats need to do alot more to gain any kind of mass acceptance or they'll forever just be a niche market. Blu Ray needs realistic player prices and HD-DVD needs studio acceptance. Wouldn't be great to get Blu Ray movie selections with Toshiba HD-DVD player prices, some day soon I hope!

I had been in the sidelines with the high def format for a while now. I must say the forums here at AVForum have been very helpful. Now that BD had "won" the format war, I decided to take the plunge. Went to a sonystyle B&M, had credit card application approved in a matter of minutes and took home the PS3 40G for 399+tax. I am anticipating the $100 credit which should decrease the total cost to 299+tax+ which I would say is the best price anyone can get a PS3 at present.

Also, not a gamer myself but decided on this because of the good deal, "future-proofness", and potentially good resale value. Considerring that soon to be released players with profile 1.2 (or 2.0) i would think will not retail below $400.

Oh, and this is my first post :-)

CC decided today, they would sell me the floor demo of the Panasonic DMP-BD10a for $199. That included remote, user manual, but not the 5 boxed discs.

My concern was that it probably had more miles on it than my first car. Great price, but I declined.

That would be a good deal if you were to get the complete warranty.

my Best Buy has a BD10a that sits in the Magnolia room for $599, while CC sells it for $399, I am tempted to see if they want to sell it for a decent price since the BD30 and pretty soon the BD50 will be out to replace it but my receiver only has analog connections so I want the 10a for it's internal decoding.

Does anybody have the 20% off coupon from BB. If so please post it, I see a BD player in my future today. Seriously, that's what my horoscope said!

I saw a package at 6th ave electronics for 10A that includes 5 discs in the box plus teh mail in rebate for $448 I believe. Seems like a real good deal.. Especially if they price match CC's internet deal. I'm considering this one now.. I can't find the thread comparing this unit and the 30A.. Can anyone highlight the main difference??

just to update, the player arrived today, so I guess they are legit. I will say that they are not the best company to buy from, but the product did arrive so all is well.

happy hunting.

Here is the front and back of the 20% off coupon. Looks like it's valid from 1/25 through 1/28.

I just got that coupon in the mail also. I bought a PS3 less than a month ago. I wonder if I can take the receipt back and get a refund with this coupon?

Just bought an open box Sony BDP30 at Amazon for $281 and then got the business Amazon Visa for an extra $30.00 off for total $251. (I already have the personal Amazon Visa card) i assume this is a good deal (it also has the Amazon 30 day return policy)

There's one left, BTW. It says refurbished, but when you read the description it says it has cosmetic flaws and the box was resealed. I'm hoping it was just a return and didn't have to be worked on by Sony.

OT: Anyone know how is this player is at upconverting DVDs? Does it come close to HD DVD players? Thanks.

Assuming this doesn't apply for PS3? Or existing card holders?
Maybe I'm late to the party, but I saw that Best Buy is offering a free Blu player if you buy certain Samsung TV's...I think they had another deal similar, but you "paid" for the player and got the same amount deducted from the TV.

My dad is wanting a flat screen and that would be a pretty decent deal to snag...worst case, I sell the player online for him and give him the cash if he isn't into hi-def dvd's.

Circuit City just dropped the price on the Panasonic DMP-BD10AK to $299. You can also download a coupoon that will give you $40 off any CC purchase over $199. The Panny comes with 5 BD's in the box and a Bogo for another 5 BD's by mail. So, for a $260, you get a great Panny BD player (fresh in the box, not an open box special) and 10 movies. How can you beat that?

Website still has it at 399 and no mention of 5 BD's in the box - what are the titles?

Are you referring to the AAA 10% coupon?
Ya, I just checked the website too and it says $399...

You have to get VERY lucky. I have been trying to find one for the last few weeks. The on-line outlet store has none and stores within a 150 mile radius have been out. You may be able to find a demo, but it has no discs and likely a lot of mileage.

I got lucky today. Last night they did an inventory in a CC about 60 miles away. When I did my daily on line check today it showed as available at this one location. Sure enough I ordered and picked it up this AM. Total price $265, brand new with the 5 discs and the rebate for 5 more.

The store manager said I got VERY lucky as they just happened to pick up this one unit in the back room during inventory.

Cant find this coupon for $40 off either.

I don't know if Samsung is offering that, but Sharp is. A friend of mine got in on that deal over the weekend.

Well, on the back it specifically excludes the 360, so the PS3 should be fair game, right??? Go early on the 25th ;-)
