Assuming the person I spoke to was telling the truth: count me out. It's not worth any more of my time or effort.

The use of "valid on blu-rays $30 and under" is an interesting choice of language if the blu-rays come bundled. Hopefully other stores will have more units in stock for the sale, but I guess we will see tomorrow.

Just called my local walmart. Electronics employee said they had 4 80 gb PS3's, and that you get to pick out your 10.

Since I don't have a WM within a hours drive, I'll be feel less than inclined to make that trip for a PS3 if I can't choose the 10 titles I want. If there's such a restriction, that should be made clear to the customers. Needless to say it will upset a good many shoppers who arrive with a list of titles they want with this unit only to find out they get to select from a list that they couldn't care less about viewing much less owning. We need clarification on this one somehow.

To clarify on the Wal-mart secret sale further...

It is now 6pm and I literally just got through talking to the electronics manager at my local Walmart. She told me that I would be allowed to select any 10 movies under $30. There will be no predetermined selection (at least at this particular store) and that you can choose anything you want and will be rung up immediately after the PS3 and reduced to no charge. The mail in offer for the 5 addition movies is separate and still valid.

But there's a catch. This special offer is limited to 2 per store. What this means is the 3rd 80gb PS3 thats purchased after 8am is no longer qualified for the 10 free movies. So you basically have to arrive real early to have a chance at this. If your still uncertain, then just go to your local Wal-mart and ask.

That's all I got for ya.

2 per store? Guess I'll take the next best deal via the net. Sometimes living in the boonie really is inconvenient.

when it comes to speaking with a WM associate let's agree nothing is "clear"
as I understood per the verbage on their own website participating stores would have a minimum of 2 80 GB PS3 units in stock for this promotion.
I highly doubt the promotion is limited to 2 units per store if they have more stock.

That sounds very strange to me. If that is true, you not only would have race to pick up the PS3 (assuming they have more than 2 in stock), you would have to rush and pick out the 10 movies then race to the checkout?

I makes more sense if thay were there bundled with the player. That way the cutomer would know for sure they had the special.
well I went to walmart and there is a sign there about the sale and it says that it is limited to how many ps3 they have and the store I went to sold the last 80gig they had I am going to find out more about the deal latter on today. I think that they are not going to have more than 4 ps3 in the stores so if you want one you better act quick tomorrow.
I'll repeat myself... the Wal-mart deal tomorrow is limited to only 2! The third 80gb sold will not grant you the extra movies. I not only spoke with the electronics manager, but later the store assistant manager to confirm this before I raced to the store tomorrow.

The manager told me to come as early as 5am and to get his or some other employees attention that I am hear for the deal. They will then take me back their right away and allow me to purchase at 6am (before the supposed 8am). If this isn't the case, then they are surely misinformed.

I just came back from the local Wal-Mart here in Paramount, CA. There was a sign on the display case where all the blu-ray movies are located at. It stated 10 free blu-ray movies with PS3 purchase. I asked one of the service people about the promotion and he told me to ask at the "ship to store" dept. - where they had about ten PS3's. I went ahead and asked about it. The nice lady said that I was allowed to pick any blu-ray movie of my choice as long as it was below $30. So I went back to the display and was trying to flag down one of the service people to open up the display case. While I was waiting the lady who told me I could choose any movie came over and took the sign down. So I asked her if the deal was over. She said that the deal had already ended earlier today and that she was doing an exception for me. In the end, I was able to pick up an 80GB PS3 plus 10 free movies of my choice. On my receipt, it shows the full price of the PS3 and each movie as $0. I also asked the lady if I could come back and exchange some of the movies since I wasn't sure if I already owned some of them. She said that it would be difficult since the price of each movie shows up as $0.

I'm not sure if they made a mistake or what. This was my experience today.

I think it depends on the store. My Wal-Mart has a pallet of PS3s in the back that they won't be bringing out until the sale starts. I asked how many of those were for the deal and they said the entire pallet. Hopefully I'll be able to get one as the blu-ray selection was excellent. I was easily able to find 10 that I'd like to have.
I just got back from Wal Mart. At least at mine, the deal is 10 preselected movies. The customer has no choice what so ever. The associate indicated they have about 15 of the 80GB playstations all ready to go with the preselected movies. This is in San Antonio, TX.

Based on this, I am passing.

Yup, just downloaded the Sony S300 Amnaul, looks like there is no way to get DD+, TrueHD or DTS-MA. Seems stupid to have this crippled. Maybe I need to wait on BD a bit longer.

i already bit on the bdp-s300 deal with 10 disks at walmart online, but i sure as hell hope you guys get to lick your chops at user selected blu ray titles. i made my purchase based on every free blu ray disk deal ive seen to date and the fact that if i asked just about anyone at walmart about blu ray they'd say he works at the front as a door greeter. nothings definite and the supply is limited while the demand is high. i cant take the chance of missing out on two things but good luck to you guys tomorrow morning.

I ended up getting the Samsung BD-P1400 today after seeing at Frys.com for $299. Figured if I could get the local guys here to do their price guarantee thing (match + additional 10% of the difference), I'd go ahead and take the leap.

They had no problem with that, so I picked it up in-store and will try out the unit tonight. 'American Psycho' will be first.

I don't think I get any free movies with this, but I was more after just the unit and plan to have movies mailed to me via my Blockbuster online subscription.

As far as if it was a good deal, not really sure, but good enough I guess.

No thanks.
It wasn't too bad when I paid $160 for an HD DVD player and got 5 ok movies, 2 of which I already had.
It's not much of a deal to spend $350 and get 10 movies I already have.
I can wait for the $100 - $150 player w/ 5 movies.

hmm...I guess I do get the five movies with the BD-P1400:

Between here, fatwallet, and slickdeals, I've seen so many different stories about what different Walmart stores are doing with the free movies sales. Several have reported that they got it today, so I went to the two closest ones to my house. One said the deal was already over, that it was on Friday (and ended @ 11PM, I got there around 11:15). The second one said they already sold out of their playstations (which makes one wonder how they'll have a minimum of two on Saturday). Remembered why I hate Walmart.
I don't know if it's already been shared, but Future Shop Canada is having an unadvertised 19 hour sale starting this Saturday at 5pm, where you can get a free Blu-ray player with the purchase of an HDTV.

Great time for someone to get into HD if they haven't already.

Best Buy matched Walmart's 80gig Ps3 deal today. They gave me 10 free BR DVD's regardless of price. The BBC Video Planet Earth was 99.99. I had three other's that were 34.99. I also got the rebate form to send in for 5 more BR DVD's. 15 free BR DVD's total. Those alone would have cost 500 bucks. They did call Walmart to verify they were in stock. I was first told to come back tomorrow when Walmart was having their special. The manager then said "since your here I'll match it today". Their selection was so much better then Walmart's. What a great deal.

You got a very easy going manager to deal with for two reasons. First they did it early. Second they did not have to do it. Since the price match policy says it does not have to match free items. Good deal for you I wish my BB was that accommodating.

Don't expect much from the Wal Mart deal. Just got back from the store in Germantown, MD. They told everyone in line they had zero PS3s. After waiting almost an hour to get word from a manager, they magically had exactly 2 PS3s (the minimum promised by the ad). They basically had no apologies for #3, 4, and 5 in line (of which I was one). The Blu Ray collection was nothing to write home about, but I'm annoyed that I wasted 2 hours on this semi-sham.
I don't know if its a good deal, so I'm posting it on here to see what you guys think. I was in BJ's today picking up the 47" 1080P Olevia for $1,000 when I saw a blu-ray player for $279.99. I took a pic, see for yourself. Apparently it expires 11/25/07. I'm pretty sure you could send away for 5 free movies as well.

Last night the manager said they had a pallet of PS3s in the back. I went to my wal-mart at 5 am this morning to be sure I could get one. Around 7:30, a manager comes to the people waiting and tells us that unfortunately the shipment never came in, but they had one in stock. As the first person there, I was able to get the only one available, and didn't have to fight with anyone else to get the movies I wanted. I'm finally format neutral, although I can't have the PS3 until Christmas.
I just got back from Wal mart.

I bought a ps3 80g for 499. They had their normal selection of about 20-25 new release blu-ray and an additional box of about 10 titles. I got to pick ANY 10 that were under $30 for free.

This is a great deal and all the nay sayers about this deal are wrong. It does work.

My location had 4 PS3 for this promotion. There were three of us there at 8am.

My movies were
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Die Hard with a Vengence
Live Free or Die Hard
FF2 Rise of the Silver Surfer
Terminator 2
Mr Brooks
Hairspray
Rescue Dawn
Ocean's 13

Nice to get so many Fox and MGM titles for "free". It will also be nice to give the PS3 away at christmas and introduce another to the wonders of Full HD movies.
The PS3 at walmart was a standard 80g and did include Motorstorm.

Edit: this post was supposed to be in reply to the poster asking to confirm whether the PS3 in the wal-mart deal included a game.

Went back to store #1 (Gresham Rd. in Atlanta) this am, since last night they said they still had plenty of PS3s. Brought the print-out of their ad to prove the deal was today, not yesterday. The guy behind the counter didn't know about the deal, and tried to convince me the free movies were the ones from the mail in offer. He went back to a manager, who also didn't know about the sale. The manager was willing to honor it, since I had the print-out, but he said they were trying to locate the boxes that had the free movies bundled in the box. Tried to explain to him that they weren't supposed to be in the box, you picked them off the shelf (when you print the ad online, what prints doesn't show as many details as online). So I suggested they pull up their web site and look at it. They were both busy trying to figure out how to do that when the same guy from last night (who had told me that sale was already over) shows up for work. He said that after I was there last night, someone else came in for the same deal, so then he started looking for info on the sale, and found a flyer on it. He found it again, and showed it to the other two guys. But he also said the guy that came in last night couldn't check-out, because their system wouldn't accept it since the sale didn't start until today. So I was good to get the deal, but I had to wait until 8AM to check out (I got there around 6:30). Once I checked out, it looked like they had to override everything anyway, so there probably wasn't any difference between checking out @ 6:30 vs. 8:00, but at least I got it. There were about 4-5 movies I had to get that I wouldn't otherwise get (had them already on SD, or had to get two of the same just to make it to 10), but I figure I'll just exchange those after xmas. It took a few hours of my life, and some gas/mileage on my car, but in the end I guess it's about the best deal on an 80GB PS3. Between this and the HD-DVD sales a few weeks ago, I'm finally HDM capable, at decent prices.
Went to my local wally world this morning and they had the ps3 but the movies sucked. I didn't want to just get crappy movies for no reason. Will get the sony style deal instead.
