Got my Onkyo 705 $549.00 with CC when they have a 4 hr online sale sometimes middle of last year.

What is the cheapest BR player you can find. I am looking for bd30 Brand new the open box I got is 349.00 but prefer brand new below 400.00, I know bd50 is coming and no one really knows when but I am satisfied with bd30 capabilities dont see myself using 2.0 features.

Another big vote for Amazon. Absolutely the best internet retailer. It is worth buying from Amazon at even 5-10% higher price because of their customer service and return policy. Crutchfield and Newegg are also very good, but I will not shop Tiger Direct anymore. They gave me the run around when trying to return hardware that was not working.

Sharp HP20U open box for $208 + $14 shipping. I bought one.

Got my Sharp player - it was brand new! Power cable bag had never been opened and the player had the plastic covering I had to peel off. Newegg is the best. It is a really nice looking player.

I don't have any BD disks to try, but DVDs worked fine. Need to get some BD disks to try.

Good find! I have one and it's pretty solid.

Anyone know why Amazon's prices seem so jacked up??? I noticed they are like $100+ more than most B&M retailers (Best Buy, Fry's). Not to mention the B&M stores are lacking stock. This doesn't make any sense to me. You would think with this economic stimulus going on they would want to have a few sales.

I'm gonna take a guess and say the prices you are seeing are from other vendors selling through Amazon. They may be out of stock themselves.

LOL, why would Sony want to help stimulate the economy of the USA? Sony is and always will be about the almighty dollar. Just one more ill side effect of BR winning the war.

You've described just about every corporation/company in that one statement from the mom and pop ice cream stand to the car manufacturers. You make it seem like Sony is somehow alone in caring for their bottom line.

Bestprices.com has the Panasonic Bd30 for $400 if anybody's interested.

Well, if there were only ONE ice cream stand in town, or only ONE car manufacturer, then that would be a good point. Those places will never have a monopoly on the industry like BR has been allowed to have (talking HD media here). The FACT of the matter is that Sony is just taking advantage of it's position by spiking prices to an extereme. Of course that is fine in the name of capitalism, but it just sucks, that's all.

I get what you're saying and agree to a certain extent but I just have to remind myself that having an affordable BR player and media isn't a "right" that I'm entitled to. It's a fairly new, fairly pricey technology/hobby that I have a choice to take part in or not. And damn straight Sony is taking advantage of their position. Most successful companies have or will do so. And yes. It does suck.

Ok. I just checked Amazon's prices. I think they only had 2 different players in stock and those were priced about $10.00 less than I saw earlier today at my local BB and CC. The other players that were selling higher were being sold through Amazon but ship from other dealers.

Those seem to be $500 everywhere, and this is the BluRay player I'm holding out for. Why do you say $400 is too much? Just curious.

For those shopping at Secondact.com They have a coupon code for $25 off...use FACEBOOKMM

It should come as no surprise since we have a classifieds forum, posting for sale items or want ads is not allowed in reg. forum area. Members pay a fee for the ability to post classifieds, it's not fair to those members who have paid for the service.

at this point i don't know why anyone would pay $400-500 for half a Blu-ray player. Unless it has BD-Live it's going to be the obselete version in 4-6 months anyway. i'd just wait, but that's me.

I can't imagine ever wanting internet interactivity with my movies, so I don't think a 1.1 player will ever be obsolete. Even PIP - I had that on HD-DVD, and only used it once. The regular making-of extras are good enough.

I agree though, I think $400 is too much, especially when the PS3 is $400.

So internet-only extras are 50% of the BluRay DVD experience? Profile 1.1 players will hardly become obsolete in 4-6 months.

I couldn't care less about DVD extras as a whole, so it doesn't matter to me. The BD30K is a well-respected player that offers bitstreaming of the TrueHD and DTS-HD codecs, so it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Ideally I'll wait until the Profile 2.0 players are released, which should drop the prices on the Profile 1.1 players.

+1
In my case, even when I end up a profile 2 player, it won't be connected to the internet. I'll still download firmware updates.

Reason 1: I've never watched extras' or commentaries with my movies and have no interest in doing so. Nor do I have any interest in playing java games.

Reason 2: That port is there for them, not your improved viewing pleasure. They really want to track your viewing habits and tailor commercials to you. Also, when you play a old movie they can still tie into you box and dump a crap load of current "coming attractions" to waste another 15 minutes of your time.

Nebraska Furniture Mart has the Panny 30 for $399.99 this week. I'm pretty sure they offer shipping on this unit...if not, there are superstores in Kansas City and Omaha. For those you are unfamilar with NFM, they are a large indep. retailer in the mid-west. Authorized retailer for all their products.

It's the same price at J&R for the silver edition, $20 more for black. They are also offering free shipping.

I considered that, but would have to add sales tax with them so it would still be over $600. I decided to stay with the 605.
