Just an FYI, but I was able to score a Panasonic 30 today from Sound Advice (Tweeter to some of you) for $159. New, in box, not a return or floor model. Will be picking it up tomorrow. If anyone is interested you might want to check your local store and see if they have any in stock. They are being clearanced out.

I just found the Sony S350 at rainbowappliance.com for 264.99 and if you use the promo code "25off" you get another $25.00 off. There is free shipping and no tax so it came out to 239.95.

They look OK according to this ratings site:

I grabbed one also - $239.95. Not a bad deal. Thanks for revealing it.

Rumour has it that the S350 will be $249.99 very very soon in Canada. I've now seen this mentioned by two different people, one I know to have been a trustworthy source in the past.

I'm not surprised though, considering it's already been on sale at $269.99 with a free movie in Canada. (As I mentioned earlier, I got mine for $252 with a free movie, but that's just because I got very lucky and happen to get in on another promotion.)

S350 is 263 at ABT. Free shipping. Authorized retailer. 30-day price match.

Had to jump on it. I can only play the waiting game for so long (checking Amazon 20+ times per day to catch that one magical sale that is only available for 5 seconds). I've friggin had it with that sh#t. It ships out tomorrow and should be here on Friday. Done and done.........

I hear that. ABT has good reviews and I jumped all over that price too. $263 to my door was a good deal. I was going to get the Insignia BDP for $229, but I think for the extra $30 I am getting a much better player. If they do price match other online retailers, then I'll look into getting the difference for the $249 price if anyone can find it. I searched high and low yesterday for this model and the best price I found was at ABT. FYI: They still have it listed for that as of tonight.

Actually, I was referred here for price talk and posted the exact same question in the owners thread!

I'm glad I went with the 350, I was going to wait out the 550, but used the coin I saved to snatch up a Harmony One for $149. Yesterday was a good day for deals!

Did you catch my stupidity before I got a chance to delete it, I think you did. I thought I was in the s350 owners thread...lol. I was hoping no one saw it...

BTW, it was about flash drives...

With BD adoption problems I wouldn't be surprised to see it down to $199 before the holidays, or $249 with some extra freebies thrown in for good measure.

I missed the opportunity to get it at Amazon for $253 shipped with $50 off 3 Warner titles but I have a feeling we will see as good or better deals in just the next few weeks.

LOL, it happens. I caught you post about two down from mine.

I was posting general info, retailers and what not until I was politely informed I was doing it in the Owners Thread! My fault for not paying attention, I just did a forum search for the model and that was the first thread I came upon. No harm done, I now post over here to discuss other option not related to the "tech" of the player.

I also agree that you will see aggressive pricing come the official start of the holiday shopping season. I predict you will see the first sub $200 player as price are cut to help increase Blu-Ray penetration. Watch for Black Friday specials to be good too! Maybe see a $149 BDP, granted the sub $200 ($199 or lower) will be entry level models, but the may give the format the kick in the pants it needs. The next step is for studios to make cuts to the cost of the discs, $30 and up is still steep. I'd like to see $15 and under SD and $20 to $25 top for Blu-Ray. Then again, there is always Netflix.

IMO, $199.99 is virtually guaranteed on Black Friday. Maybe significantly lower.

Unfortunately, Black Friday doesn't exist in Canada. Our big sale day is Boxing Day, which is Dec. 26.

Anyways, now that I have my CAD$252 Sony BDP-S350, I'm awaiting another sale... to buy a second Profile 2.0 player for $199.99 or less, or else maybe a good 1.1 player for $149.99 or less.

Ah yes, Boxing Day. I shall watch Rocky in HD on my new BDP-S350 in honor of it! Wait, what... that's not what it is?

Anyway, you should be able to find some good deals on end of year closeouts.

BD has major adoption problems, but I'm not here to educate you, there are lots of informative articles on how badly BD sales are doing from just the past two weeks and how the companies who invested in BD haven't made a dime yet.

In all likelihood we are going to see increasingly aggressive player prices, especially from Sony over the next six months and if that doesn't spur adoption I think we will see prices on media coming down, fast.

I concur. I waited out for my threshold. I was not going to pay $400 for a BDP. $250 did it for me, but there are still alot of people out there who think that is too high. This holiday season should be an interesting one concerning Blu-Ray products.

I just jumped on this, hope they ship soon.

My DVD's look good, not great but good enough to wait until a BD player is $199. I can wait and lots of people are going to wait until they get it.

That's a fantastic price for that player. If I already hadn't jumped on the Amazon S350 deal for 253.00, I would have purchased this today!!!

My point exactly. Don't worry, I'd be willing to bet that you will see a $199 BDP this shopping season.

I stopped in at Tweeter in Houston. They said they don't carry Panasonic Blu-Rays.

Yea, I remember when I was very young (1983) our family having the only VCR on the block. My dad paid $700 for it at a furnature store. 2 summers later everybody had one.

Blu is catching on. Prices will fall. What can make war with Blu not to catch on?

WalMart is re-setting there Blu-ray area at my local store tomorrow. I will look for a price change.

Lack of consumer interest.

Many people claim that they can see zero improvement going from SD DVD to Blu. The difference between VHS and DVD was huge, not as much from DVD to Blu.

Numerous friends of mine won't buy Blu because they say that they can't see the difference and it doesn't offer the compelling feature upgrades that DVD offered over tape.
Well, keep in mind that Blu will replace DVD just as DVD replaced VHS. It will take time, but you will see prices fall to the point where $99 BDP's will be the norm.
FYI - for those worried about Black Friday price drops the new Panasonic 35k is 299 at Circuit City with free shipping. I know that's nothing special but the fact that they offer a 90 day price match would put you well past the Christmas season.

Also, they have the release date on 10/20

Many in the industry have acknowledged that Blu will never be as big as DVD. Downloads, etc, almost assure that, even if there was a more compelling reason for consumers to upgrade.

As long as we get a solid 10 years of release material on Blu-Ray I will be a happy camper. Even that, however, is not assured.

Isn't this the Blu-ray player special deals section? I'm sure there are other areas to discuss downloads and how that will be the death of Blu ray.
