I'm betting that they the 320 will give up something from the 51fd... the only things that set apart the 51fd and its elite counterpart (05fd) are (as far as I can tell): 1) the better video DACs on the elite, 2) PQLS, 3) touch rather than 'hard' buttons and 4) a backlit remote. From the press release and pics what appear to be differences of the 320 and the 23fd are: 1) stereo PQLS on the 320 vs 7.1 on the 23fd, 2) backlit remote on the 23fd, and 3) the buttons are now 'hard' buttons on both, but illuminated indicators just above them on the 23fd.

What is unknown to me is what DACs will be on the 320 vs the 23fd. I've seen the 23fd advertised as having the wolfson DACs for analog audio (as in the 51 and 05), but have not seen same advertised for the 320. If I had to venture a guess, I'd be inclined to think they are dropping the nicer DACs on the 320 now that they have a lesser model with which it can share components (just to draw a little more distinction from the 23fd). That would delineate their line a little better: 120 is the full-feature (all codecs, profile 2) entry level player to compete with the pannys, sammys and sonys... the 320 is the enthusiast player that adds 7.1 analog outs and stereo PQLS... the 23fd is the premium player with multichannel PQLS and better styling, and the 09fd is the reference equipment.

If they drop the nicer DACs with the 320, I'm inclined to go with the 51fd, as it would be a decision of nicer DACs vs bd-live (don't they both have the renesas chip? and wouldn't load times be the same with both???).

Just bought a Panasonic BD35K at Sears. The one near me in DFW had 5 in stock. Same price as on thier web site, $299, which I could not order from. I had to drive there and make them check their stock.

I see what you are saying. One reason I am inclined to hold out for the 320 vs scooping up a 51fd for ~300 is I am hoping for a better bd-rom that will allow quicker boot times and better error correction for those rental discs. At this rate though, maybe I'll just Vudu and forget BD for another year.

I know, I know! I was trying to bury my head in the sand about internal components. The latest models don't always mean better , or even as good performance. I bought a Mitusbish LT-46231 HDTV 2 years ago for some of the same reasons. This HDTV has more inputs on it's back panel than most TVs have today. Yes, "only" 2 HDMI, but what about legacy devices I like to keep around. The same goes for older standard DVD players. Some have outstanding DACs in them for superb audio reproduction. I have a Denon and Pioneer I can't bare to part with for that reason alone. Although my Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player has very good sounding audio performance. And, so now, start all over again in the blu-ray equipment area.

It's a third party seller. Funny, the 55k is $699, much cheaper

I realize that but az usually has the best deals if it's sold by them, in this case it was not, but my God what a price spread. Any other ideas vs the long awaited, hyped up, vaporware OPPO 83?

Samsung P2500 -- or wait a little bit for the BD-60 to appear.

Honestly, unless I needed analog outs I wouldn't buy a player now.

Yup, I just took advantage of this offer.

Time to stop reading the Pricing Deals thread and time to head over to the BD-P2500 Owner's Thread!

anyone heard of or had experience with 'UltimateDigitalSource'?

I found a panasonic dmp-bd35 blu-ray player for $150!!!!

To good to be true.
Found no mention in thread. Found no shopper reviews online.

Just curious, why isn't the Sony 550 on the top of the list? It has everything the Panny has or am I missing a post somewhere?

Not positive, but I believe someone looked up their IP address about a month ago when someone posted this deal on the Panny.

Seems like the IP address was only a couple of months old, meaning a new business with no listing on Reseller Ratings, as well as no other obvious track record.

Again, not positive if this was the company but I just checked the website and it looked familiar.

Dell has the 80GB PS3 on sale for $340.

I was able to snag one there as the Amazon discounted PS3 promotion has ended.

It's the 80GB, not the 60GB. (The 60GB was backward compatible with the PS2, whereas the current 80GB is not.)

The Sony 550 is showing up at $309.98 for me at Amazon.
How would you rate the DACs on the P2500 for analog out? I mean that was one of the features I thought I might use, assuming I can figure out how to hook it up to my 5.1 Sony receiver (analog ins but only 5.1).
Here are the current Samsung and Sony prices at Amazon, all shipped by Amazon with free shipping:

BD-P2500: $315.88
BD-P1500: $209.90

BDP-S550: $309.98
BDP-S350: $299.99

The deal is the 1500 if you don't need 7.1 analog outputs. If you're looking at the Sony, then the 550 is clearly the way to go.

I just got an email from Amazon about the 2500 I ordered:

"Delivery of your package has been delayed due to weather or a natural disaster. UPS will deliver the package as soon as possible."

Doh! I was all set to watch The Dark Knight in my theater tomorrow night, too.
Well, it looks like I jumped the gun on the BD-P2500. After reading the manual in anticipation of it arriving, I discovered that for the 7.1 analog outputs, it only lets you adjust each speaker's size (small or large). Unfortunately my Yamaha RX-V2400 receiver does not allow adjustment of the signals coming from the 7.1 analog inputs, and I discovered with my HD-A35 that I needed to modify each speaker's distance and level, especially the sub, in the HD DVD player to get the sound right.

In short, the Sony BDP-S550 is the one for me. You can read the details, along with comparisons of the BD-P2500, BDP-S550 and DMP-BD55 here:

Analog outputs and speaker parameter adjustments

So I am returning the BD-P2500, and I just ordered the BDP-S550 through Amazon for $309.98. I splurged for next-day shipping for only $3.99 so I'll get it tomorrow at least.

I kind of like the netflix steaming feature of the 2500.

True, but I already get Netflix streaming through my Xbox 360. Although even the HD movies only have 2-channel audio, so I'm not going to bother using it until they start streaming 5.1 audio. Kind of pointless to stream HD video with crappy audio.
agreed. I got netflix through my tivohd. You will be very happy with the sony. Good luck.

www.UltimateDigitalSource.com

I called them at 1(866) 966-5455 and the voice message says welcome to Ultimate Digital Source but when I pushed the numbers for customer service or sales I got a some nice Dave Brubeck background music, a few rings and then a recording to leave a message. I didn't bother.

So their 9-6 hours don't mean someone is actually there.

I'd wait to actually speak with someone before ordering. At this point I'd avoid them.

My unscientific observation is: it's difficult for me to tell the difference between my (old) DSP-A1 and the 5.1 analog out of the 2550 (easy to A-B them with the external processor switch). If anything, I would give a slight edge to the TrueHD soundtrack (analog out using the 2550 DACS) over the down-converted (to DTS using the A1 DACS) optical version. I'm sure someone will say that's a 10-year old AMP, but it's a darn good 10-year old AMP with state-of-the-art DACS in the day.

Really strange site - it says "E-commerce by Yahoo", but I searched Yahoo Merchant Rating and couldn't find any listing for it. Yeah, the list the Panasonic BD35 for $149, cheaper than the old Sony 300 model ($209) or old Samsung 1400 model ($179).

I tried adding the BD35 in my cart and checking out - they only accept Diner's Club or JCB, with a note: "Note: If you do not have a Diner's Club card or JCB card please select Purchase Order an email will be sent to you within 24hr with payment instruction."

Who the heck uses Diner's Club these days, and only Japanese citizens have JCB. For a laugh, I'm choosing Purchase Order and giving them an email address I don't care if it gets spammed, and see what the "Payment Instructions" are. I'm betting it will be a PO box to send a Money Order, with an option for "faster service" to send a Moneygram.

The BDP-51FD is now $289.98 at Amazon.

It looks like a great player, but it's only profile 1.1 (if that's important), it will only stream DTS-HD MA (not decode), and it allows for speaker sizes and levels, but not distance/delay (if you're using the 7.1 analog output).
