Up here in Toronto, Futureshop just opened up it's new flagship Canadian location and I thought I'd stop by to take a look and see if they had any deals on HD-DVD (or anything else for that matter), but no such luck. The have however, moved the HD-A3 to $299, from $349, which is slightly better and had me pondering a bit, but I'm going to be a trooper and wait for Boxing Day sales.
I got mine from Futureshop when it was still "on sale" for $349. Visions (not near me) had them on sale for $288, so I asked the sales guy if he'd match it. He didn't verify what I said, but he did look at his cost in their system, and matched the price. I'm wondering what they'd say if you made up an even lower price.
Thanks for all the info on this thread.
I bit the bullet and ordered the a3 on amazon w/ 10dvds for $191.91.
Thats like paying 176 for it locally, plus tax. I'm fine with that.
If i could have saved $26 and get it for 150, not worth the BF BS.
I AM IN... looking forward to having it in a few weeks.
Well everyone, I was super skeptical about whether or not we would see the sub $100 price tag on the Toshiba HD-A2 again (which in theory we still might), but despite the fact that I am still unsure if the A3 is as critically acclaimed as the A2, I doubt this Amazon.com offer is something to pass up.
I just hope that in the future, the A3 can be firmware corrected to match the favoritism of the A2 (the differences I have heard between the two are pretty minimal).
Most stores are selling the A3 for $199 this week with free disk offers. 6th Ave is selling it for $99 when you buy any TV 37" or larger and you get the 7 free disks. I bet if you call Robert at Value Electronics he will offer the same or better deal. It seems that Toshiba is offering the dealers a limited time price reduction.
Just came back from Costco in Bedford Park, IL. D3 (A3) for $179, down from $249 with "MFR.s instant rebate." Box includes 300 and Bourne Identity plus HDMI cable. Sounds better than waiting in line at Sears on BF. They also had Transformers and Shrek the Third but no other HDDVD titles besides the best of multipacks.
