I jumped on the Friday deal at Walmart for the A2 for $198 plus five free in store (just could not wait any longer). Just my two cents, if they offer this deal again or something similar and you are interested, I would check out the movie selection first. They had nothing of interest to me, so I got five full price movies and plan on returning for store credit without a receipt to get the ones I want once they get them in. Also, they only had one player, hidden on the top shelf, I called prior and they were not able to answer my questions since they don't know the number of players until the night before - again just in case you are interested...

just picked one up....
upgrading from A2 to A35, hopefully 24fps works with my receiver.

The $199.98 deal is back at Amazon.com for the HD-A3 with 10 free movies. You get 3 from their list that ship with the player. Of course 300 and Bourne Identity are in the box and you get the 5 by mail.

It was up to $218 this morning-- then $249 this afternoon. I was waiting for it to drop below $200 so I could buy a second player.

I even got the 10% discount. The total came to $193 and change. I got Bourne Supremacy, Dragonheart and The Last Starfighter as my free from Amazon. They have a pretty good selection, but I have most of them already...

Prices are back to:

$199.98 for A3

$239.98 for A30

$339.98 for A35

A3 and A30 are a smokin deal...

Now if only they would bring back the 12 free movies to go along with the BOGO.

You get 10 free which is still pretty good, although the selection is rather skimpy.

Anyone have the link for the Amazon BOGO, I am having no luck finding it on my own. Thanks in advance.

Go to Amazon. In upper left, click on Movies & TV.
Then on the left, click on the HD-DVD section to go there.
On the main page for HD-DVDs, to the right should be a small section advertising the deal. Click on it.
(Don't know how to do Amazon links here, they usually don't work from AVS)

I picked up an A35 at Amazon once they dropped to $339 w/10 free movies. I also took advantage of their 2 for 1 deal on HD-DVD's.

I also picked up a 40GB PS3 when they had the packed deal going on this weekend so I just went from no HD format to format neutral in a couple days...

I'm pretty stoked. Merry Christmas to me.

Got my A35 from Amazon like lightning today and got the price adjustment also.

Hooked it up and imho it definitely looks better than my A3, having trouble with getting the TrueHD to show up on my Onkyo 805 but I'm working on that.

Prices have gone up again. They seem to change by the hour. I wonder if it depends on units being sold for each model: the more are sold, the more the price goes up?
A3 245.02
A30 248.39
A35 345.10

Wow, that's the highest I have ever seen the A3 going for. I am so lucky that I got my price adjusted to $159.98.

At the prices listed above you would be better off with the A30. By the way, I just checked the price of the A2 and it's currently going for $249.99, but it's sold by TigerDirect.

I know this is the HD-DVD forum, but I wonder if Blu-ray will ever introduce a sub $200 player. If they expect to continue to compete in the "war" they better!

With HD players priced the way they have been lately, no one shouldn't have one!!

This thread has definitely helped in getting more bang for the buck.

I had bought an A30 w/10 free movies from BB for $425.99 w/tax on Fri. 11/30. I was pretty busy over the weekend and never had a chance to open it and figured I'd hook it up the next weekend.

Never happened. I stumbled across this thread.

For only $4 more than I originally spent at BB, I now have an A35 and 17 movies instead of 10.

Much appreciated.

I assume you did the BOGO deal?

300, Bourne Identity, Batman Begins, Hot Fuzz, Children of Men, Transformers, Training Day, Casino, The Last Samurai, Blade Runner Collector Edition(pre-order), The Departed, The Fugitive and still have to pick the 5 mail in rebate.

I doubt I'll by many more HD DVD's and will rent instead. The only reason I even grabbed the extra HD DVD's is because I had already spent that same amount at BB so it's like they were free.

And then some.

Also picked up Warners "The Best of HD DVD Action" at Costco for $43. Four movie boxed set - Troy Directors Cut, Alexander Revisited Final Cut, Blood Diamond and Wyatt Earp.

I went from no HD DVD to an A35 and 21 movies in 10 days.

smithfarmer, you made it sound at first as if you were getting something like a deal like...
buy a player and get 17 free dvds (instead of 10)
What you meant was that with the money you saved, you were able to buy MORE dvds and still break even.

I thought it was pretty clear but I'll break it down for ya.

I got a better player and 7 additional movies for only $4 extra.

I got the A35 w/12 for $339.98 and they gave me a $10 promo to be used on a future purchase.

Picked up Blade Runner for $17.95 w/promo

Transformers /Training Day - $47.90

BOGO - Departed/Fugitive - $23.95

Amazon ........................ $429.78

BB ........................... - $425.99
