try the gold box link for the A3, A30, A35. There are boxes to check on which player and movies you want.

I ordered and things worked fine. However I did use IE to place the order as some people over at SD were saying they were having problems when using Firefox. I also got 2nd day shipping for free by signing up for the trial of their new Prime something or other - canceling within 30 days avoids the $79 annual fee.

Just price matched my A3 at BB. They handed me 108 bucks in cash and didn't ask for the 3 free HD DVD's I picked out with the A3. Last night I was considering the Amazon deal, but it looks like I got the same thing today

Hopefully HHGregg will be handing me 150 bucks this friday!

Well, I don't give a damn about the HD DVD vs Blu Ray war thing, but with these extreme price cuts on the HD DVD players as of late, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that HD DVD will be the format to rule them all...

Now, I was at CC with an A3 in my hands, standing in line, and Im reading the box. It says that it will stream audio up to 5.1 over DD/PCM. OK, I know this was talked about before, so it had me doubting agian. Is this A3 player going to be able to play 6.1 (i.e., discrete rear channel) when playing a SD DVD and outputting over the optical cable? I put the box back and left. LOL

EDIT: The tag on the CC store shelf also said that it would upconvert SD DVD to 720p. I hope they are clueless!!!

Thanks! Just ordered A35 with the 10 HD-DVD movies!

I spoke to reps from 2 different Best Buy stores today. And was told they will NOT do any price matching on "Black Friday" I was going to purchase the A3 today from Best Buy for $199, and asked about bringing my receipt back in this Friday. The salesperson told me if it were to drop in price they would not give me the difference. He said they will "specially tagged" and the pricing will only be good for th A3's sold that day. I was told by both stores the 30 day price match will not apply to Black Friday. So if you bought it 2 weeks ago for $299 don't wait till Friday for a price match, get your $100 back now.

I mean, really. The players are $199 now. Amazon is giving up 10 free hd-dvd's with their units. There probably won't be much stock come BF to even worry about. Certainly not worth trying to fight a crowd of people for what is certainly to be a smaller number of units than there are buyers on BF.

Well, now there is one less HD-A3 at Amazon.com (I just got mine). I didn't get it for $191.91 though, mine cost a whopping $199.00! I don't know how people are saving the extra $7.09, but I am not too worried about it.

Here is how my transaction went:

Items: $274.85
Shipping & Handling: $16.44
Super Saver Discount: -$16.44
Promotion Applied: -$75.85
Total Before Tax: $199.00
Estimated Tax: $0.00

Order Total: $199.00

I picked: The Shining (always loved that movie), Hot Fuzz (heard a lot about it), and Happy Feet (so I could have a cartoon to see how colors look in HD) as my three choices. Thought it was unique that only The Shining was an HD-DVD only, as the others were hybrids (I guess one side is HD-DVD, and the other side is SD-DVD).

My transaction went fine (it showed my 3 movie choices), I used Internet Explorer on purpose after reading about it in here.

I want to ask a question in here from all Amazon.com purchasers of the A3. Did you get an option for "Print Receipt" to send in with your rebate form for the 5 additional free movies? I didn't and I am wondering if just a copy of the sent e-mail would suffice to submit with the rebate, or if...maybe...you don't need to send a receipt copy as long as you have the UPC code or maybe the Serial number as well?

If you don't need to send a printed receipt it would be cool to have it web submittable as I have done with other rebates in the past.

Well, I couldn't hold out any longer, and grabbed the Amazon A3 deal. Now I must get Transformers in HD-DVD.

Can those of us outside the LA market print out the coupon and use it, or is it a local only thing?
post #198 of 8408
i was able to print my invoice, but it wasn't straight forward.
i think you could always call or email amazon, and they could email you a pdf of it.

and i have no idea how i got "Promotional Certificate: -$7.09" but i'll take it.
post #199 of 8408
You can get the A3 at CC now for $199.99 also, don't have to wait for BF.
I'd be all over the Amazon deal, but I just wish they expanded their free disc selection.
post #200 of 8408
Will the A3 be $100 w/ 10dvds before the end of the year??? who knows.
I kinda felt like i missed the BB deal a few weeks back of 199 w/ the 10dvds.
Now that it was back, and w/ no tax, i took it!
Would i save $30 more for going out on BF and fight the crowds? I don't have that kind of time, and my time is worth more than that. just my $0.02.

agree, not the best choices.
I picked'em based on sound effects: shooter, top gun, and face off.
I was really considering the shining, but how many times do i want to scare the cr@p out of myself?
I'm a netflixer, so i've got plenty to watch.

I am actually pretty pleased with the choices. The three Kubrick releases plus the Big Lebowski are all on my "to buy" list.

I took the plunge. I was considering the sears 169.99 bf deal, but after taxes I would've only saved about 15.00 and had the honor of dealing with all that madness (plus no guarantee of getting one). add 3 movies, 1 of which is a must buy for me (goodfellas), and it was an easy choice.
post #204 of 8408
Best Buy wouldn't price match there own player on Black Friday, so I went to my local Sears, and the Department Mgr. said they would price match there own A3's this friday. She said as long as I bring my receipt in during the hours the sell is, they will honor the price. Now thats customer service.

If you look at the "DVD Players" section of Electronics, it's #1 on that list (still...so far...#2 in electronics)

#7, #8, & #9 are:

7 = A35
8 = A30
9 = A2

One other thing I wanted to mention was that at #4 is the Highly Rated "Oppo DV-980H" for $169.99, where for an additional $29.01 you could just get the A3 and have HD capability.

This sale on the A3 makes the Toshiba $30 LESS than the Oppo DV-981HD and the Oppo won't even play HD.

I seriously considered an Oppo for SD upconversion, now I am glad I waited for a unit that could upconvert SD and play HD.
post #206 of 8408
I've got an Oppo 980H. It also plays MP3, WMA, SACD and DVD-Audio. Its well worth its $169 price. And it loads SD DVD quite a bit faster than the Toshiba HD players.

I also have an A2 which is worth its $100 price too!

Is the A35 worth the extra dough to get the bitstream AUDIO to my Elite 94?
