Just picked up an HD-A2 floor model (no box) for $98 at my local Sears. I'm planning to hold it in case I don't find one in the box at that price.

I happen to know someone has ordered me an HD-A2 (new in box) from Walmart.com as a christmas gift. They would have paid $198. I wonder if one can get price-matching on a Walmart.com site-to-store order...

I got an A2 today at Sears in Atlanta(Gwinnett Mall) for 84.00. It was the display and no remote. Since it was on and had a picture why not. I was worried about updating the firmware without a remote, but that ended when I got home. I have 2 RCA HDV5000's and their remotes worked with the A2. I guess I'll be spreading a little HD DVD love for Christmas.

My local WalMart and Target gave me a "Que?" when I asked if they had any Blu Ray or HD DVD players. Unfortunately the Kendall area electronics are dominated by Best Buy and Circuit City. BB surely didn't have any A2's a week ago.

No A2's at the Sears closest to me (Hurst, TX).

I got the last open box/floor model (March 07) A2 at a local BB a few days ago for $80 but no remote and it has some small scratches here and there from being moved around (never been hooked up though because the cord was still sealed in the little plastic baggie) . My A1 and A3 remotes operate it just fine and after the 2.5 firmeware update it plays great but I am still considering returning it due to no remote (I don't have a Harmony but I guess I would be set if I did) . Too bad there is not a reasonable place to get remotes for these players since so many people seem to be getting units missing that crucial addition . It seems none of the less expensive universal remotes work (but even if they did there would probably be no access to the SETUP function) . Best price I can find on an original remote for these players is about $50 but at that point just spend the extra $30 or so and get an entry level Harmony ... right .


*** EDIT : Ooops I spoke too soon as I just made a phone call and located the factory Toshiba HD-A2 remotes for $29.64 each from a parts distributor but the problem is that they are on national back order and have been for over a month (good news is that they are expecting them anytime now , nothing confirmed from Toshiba however) . ***

Keep in mind that they will still post secret in-store specials on Thanksgiving Day. Any HD players or media are likely to appear then.

anyone know what the sears model number is ? I keep calling all the sears in baton rouge and have gone by a few but the salespeople and managers are so ignorant they refuse to believe that Toshiba makes a HDDVD player under any name or model that starts with A....like A1,A2,A20,A3...etc.etc......

Well I just got my first hd dvd player today from sears. After reading some post I decided to check it out. I asked the store clerk and he said that they only have the a3 in stock. I think it was 299.99 for the a3 but I preferred the a2 for the always dts optical sound. Well to make a long story short they sell me the display model for 95 dollars!!! That was terrific as i already have transformers hd dvd which i bought from walmart at $15.00 ( they tell me it was opened but everything was in perfect condition ). One word ..... WOW.

The model numbers begin with HD, so HD-A2, HD-a3....

I absolutely did not know that! They (6th Ave) have some really good prices on a bunch of electronics. I just never bought from them cuz no history, etc. Wow! Congrats again!

Sounds like I should be glad mine had its remote! No composite A/V cable, though.

I do know the store had been using this A2 to run a loop of their HD-DVD demo disc, though. That means it's been run for ~10 hours a day for ??? days - but at least it's always been running the same disc, not having the drive opened/closed repeatedly. I wonder if I should be worried about this... but steady-state operation is typically more benign than cyclic, right?

For all the Bay Area people, just picked up a HD-A2 at the Sears in Oakland for $98. They have a least a few more in stock...

No HD-A2 units in Sears in Marlboro, Auburn, or Springfield MA. I ended up getting the floor model from the Springfield store.

just got the hd-a2 for $98.92 from sears at the castleton store in Indianapolis. price tag shows $279 so you'll need to ring it up and ask.

One of the black Friday websites is showing HH Gregg as having the A3 for $149.99 with 7 free hd-dvds, 5 mail-in and two in the box (300 and Bourne Identity).

My uncle heard that the Xbox360 add-on will be given away free with purchase of the top-end 360 sometime this holiday season.

Has anyone else heard this rumor?

With the A3 being $169 on BF, is that worth the purchase? Or would it be better to hold out for the A2? I've got a Sony A2000 (no 1080p/24) but my Onkyo does take HDMI, so I am guessing that one of the low-end HD-DVD players makes sense. Just wondering if I should go for the A3 or wait for the A2 to hopefully sell at $99 again. Thanks.

I wonder how many people have bought the $99.00 HD Dvd players then to be told by the salesman that is required a $50.00 Monster Cable HDMI cable and another $50.00 Monster Cable sound cable to work? I need to buy some Monster Cable stock!~

Folk, check your Office Depot. They usually have 1 or 2 HD-A2 players per store and they do price match.

I know; but I am not talking about the toshiba model number......the ignorant people at sears in baton rouge can seem to locate or tell me what they have in stock unless you have the official sears item number. COuld someone please please please tell me what the sears item number is on your HD-A2 receipt??????????? If I go into the sears where I live and ask if they have a Toshiba Hd-A2 hddvd player they will just tell me that this player doesn't exist.
