Sorry. No vitriol was directed at you personally. And you were right they guy could and should press the manager for a better deal (regardless of who's winning what).

Supposedly Toshiba is going to be offering free HD players with their HDTVs soon.

They already are...

Will they play PAL and NSTC? And any region?

KillerBox,

I can't find a hack for A2 region-free. Maybe you would have better luck.

Their is a hack for the A2 to go region free, sort of, it didn't work for me. Far as I know there is none for the a3_ series. But probably will be hacked eventually since there are more A3s in production than a2s.

I can't recommend them since they can brick the player. (Even though I tried it unsuccessfully myself.)

AVS Making Toshiba players region free.

XA2 plays multi region NTSC and PAL DVD

The was a hack from Australia for region free. 2.5.1, i think.
Interestingly Australia has a law about DVD players being region free, because otherwise "it limits their citizens choices." Toshiba apparently interprets this as regarding game machines , anyway i can't find the link for it since the forum crashed

Here's the Toshiba customer support page:
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/customersupport/

From there, go to the Recalls and Updates page, and you'll find the firmware update info. under the Notices section. That'll give you a link where you can download the update.

No problem at all. I should have thought more before I posted that in this section anyways .

Well, my XA2 from Overstock is on the way, I ordered it last week, it was cancelled and I re-ordered it Monday, it took them 3 days to decide to ship it, now it is on the way from CA as of today and should be in PA by next week. When they say 5 to 10 days, they are not kidding.

I'm in the same boat. The exact same boat. My original order was cancelled. I re-ordered Monday. It's coming from CA. I live in PA. And I should get it Monday. Where in PA are ya from?

It was more on point than my talk about firmware Wasn't my intention to give you a hard time or be rude. Again I'm sorry if it seemed that way.

I have a problem with the writer of that piece (being spread as news), he and that propaganda site won't say who made that alleged statment, but allude that 1 of 2 major retailers might have done. Irresponsible at best. And In the past they mangled and twisted statements to make their own editorial opinion, fine enough unless it is passed off an journalism. Still it might, might, be true.

It just reminds me of the political FUD going around in the US right now. (Obama can't do this, McClain is weak on this, Clinton is too much this. All gets spread about and repeated as if it is a fact. Not endorsing or purposely ignoring any candidate , if anyone has been unlucky enough to be paying attention here, you know how these things have gone down.)

It is 10 players again. It was sold out a few hours ago. I just ordered one for 317 shipped using the billmelater coupon. Thank you to the folks here who mentioned it. The refurbdepot unit was 350 after tax and shipping, so I bought the overstock one intsead.

Now what to do with my XA1...

Got my XA2 today from Overstock. Flawless shape, not a single scratch on the unit and the remote still had the protective covering on it. If it wasn't in a plain brown box I would swear it was new. Build date of 10/2007 and a firmware version of 2.5.

I promptly updated to 2.8 and then popped in Matrix HD. Watching the TrueHD light pop up on my Onkyo 605 was almost as impressive as the sound, TrueHD is phenomenal. There is definitely a difference between TrueHD bitstreamed and the TrueHD PCM that my A2 put out. I wouldn't have thought so, TrueHD is TrueHD right? But when processed by the Onkyo it is clearer and more spacious.

Definitely the best $232 I've ever spent. Can't wait to fire up an SD movie this weekend and check out the Reon upconversion.

I was just being sarcastic. Overstock had the XA2 listed under two different descriptions and even went as far as arguing with their customers that there are actually two different XA2 players. (there is only one XA2)

I think you're comparing 2 different players here. Of course there's a difference. Try to compare TrueHD PCM 5.1 analog vs. bitstream to your 605 from the same XA2.

LOL, that scared me a bit. I just picked up a XA2 today (September 2007 build), and it built like a tank and it is heavy.

Even though the remote has some part metal, it is hard to see in the dark. Does it key light up?

As for the XA2 warms up and controls, I found it a bit slow comparing to XBOX 360 HD DVD player.
Thanks for the direction, but this is the current firmware 2.8, not 2.7 that I'm looking for.

Just got the XA2 tonight, mine came from Illinois. Did a quick HDMI and Toslink connections to the Sharp Aquos 52D82U and Yamaha receiver. Pop in Transformer HD disc without any adjustment, the TV showed the source was 1080i and not so sharp as expected, the audio is not better than standard DVD. So far I'm not very impress with both video and audio quality, may be I need to do some adjustments and/or update the firmware to 2.7 or 2.8, or new cables or receiver. I may need to read the manual to understand the machine and how to setup correctly.

There is an orange label on the box that say "Refurbished Class B". What is class B ? Is there a Class A refurbished ? Am I get the second class unit and some get first class units ?
class b is also called "b stock" which is refurbished or repackaged after a return. Same thing as refurb really.

After returning my HD-D3 to Sam's, I ordered the A30 from Amazon. $151.xx delivered. I think it is still the same price today.

Hold the Backlight button down until the backlight comes on (could take several seconds). After that, I think the backlight comes on as soon as you press any button ....

I plan on buying a D3 from my local Costco when they get their next shipment. They sold out of their last shipment in less then a week.

I want to use the D3 as mainly to upscale my regular DVD and rent some HD-DVD's.

Why did you take back your D3?
