The projector is a Sony G70 front CRT pj. I know it can display 1080p but the scan lines may overlap. The pj has the bandwidth. I was just curious how it would look. I never pushed anything but 1080i through my HTPC. One thought is I am running the RGB through a Sony 1271 switcher. The bandwidth is there but no 1080p. I did go into the menue of the A35 and specify "UP TO 1080p" but the light will not switch from 1080i.

I never got into the HD DVD thing until yesterday. More curiosity than anything else. Being an "early adopter" this is the FIRST source technology I waited to jump into. Always got burned in the past. Unity Motion HD satellite service, Voom as a buyer in the beginning, on and on.

yes it will. You'll have to have something like Powerdvd 7.3 to get playback (and most likely a copy of AnyDVDHD as well), but it's very possible. That what I did.

For anyone in the CA Bay Area still in need of an A35, I was able to place an order for one in-store last night, even though they were out of stock at the location. Last night they were showing 28 units available at the San Francisco warehouse (0 at Livermore warehouse, incidentally) and had it shipped to the store for pickup. $149.99.

Yeah... I heard the incandescent bulb is going the way of the doo-doo bird sometime in the future. Something about this 'green' thing. I just love reading by those coiled, flickering fluorescent replacements. That'll be the day. My storage area is slowly filling up with the good bulbs!

I picked up the last A35 for $150 last night at the Fry's in Manhattan Beach, CA. They had one A30 left.

Yep, same here, and I'm serious. I've started stocking up.

I hope so I took a gamble and bought it for $211 the other day thinking it would drop down and amazon would be competetive. It seems like so far Amazon doesn't want to join in on the reindeer games.

Well I just checked Amazon again, and the Toshiba players (HD A3, A30 A35) are sold through other vendors. Nothing is from Amazon itself.
I got my A35, floor model, from a local store for 108 out the door.

Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy on Monday advertised a $50 HD DVD player for the Xbox 360, the latest example of a major retailer slashing prices on products supporting the high-definition format that has lost industry support in favor of Sony-backed Blu-ray.

The drastically reduced price for the player, which had sold for $129, was being advertised the same day Microsoft announced that it would stop making the external player for its videogame console.

Toshiba, which led industry proponents of HD DVD, gave up the fight against Blu-ray last week, saying it would no longer make or market players supporting the format. The announcement came four days after Wal-Mart Stores, the world's largest retailer, said it would stop selling HD DVD movies and players by June.

The turning point in the format battle came last month when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, which accounts for 20% of DVD sales in the U.S., said it would ship all of its high-definition titles in Blu-ray by year's end. Best Buy and online movie renter Netflix followed suit this month.

Since Toshiba's announcement, Best Buy hasn't been alone in offering deals. CompUSA offered on its Web site only a HD DVD player for $90 with seven high-definition movies.

Weird I used a different computer and did the same search "Toshiba HD DVD" and the default availability on that computer shows as sold by "Beach Camera". However it does show as sold by Amazon on the right side of the page a little lower and in stock.

When did you see this? Might try and stop by this afternoon.

Last night. There is a A35 playing a BB demo as soon as you walk in the store on the right, and second A35 is hidden in one of the cabinets in the Magnolia store.

That was EXACTLY the case with Wallyworld's 5 minimum for the laptops per store....

None were available and the fighting almost surfaced.

I'm in the same boat as you. I got my A-35 for $220 on 2-13 and have been waiting for it to drop so I could get a bit of a refund. I'm not sure if Amazon will price match a lightning deal or not. Anyone have any experience with getting a price match for a lighting deal?

Maybe Toshiba is more credible than Sony, but I've been waiting 16 weekes for my blu-ray freebies and was recently given the "opportunity" to cancel my freebies altogether! WHAT NERVE!!!
