For anyone in the Rancho Cucamonga, CA area, I just returned an unopened A35 I got from CC.com to the Rancho store. I had already committed before I got one at BB for $149 last week. The price was $199, but you could possibly get them to match the BB price + 10% of the difference ($5) as they offered to do that if I kept it. It has the Transformers/Bourne Supremacy movies inside. The box is pretty ratty (possibly from shipping), but it didn't feel or sound like anything inside was damaged. Hope this does someone here some good.

anyone know if Costco will match sam's price? Or if their regular price dropped?

Unfortunaltely, Costco does not price match. You have to return the item for a refund.

I returned a faulty XBox 360 that I bought over a year ago at Sams Club for a full refund without question. Despite whatever their official return policy might be, they usually don't ask too many questions when you return an item (even electronics). At least that has been my experience with Sams.

Vanns.com has the a35 for $189.88, the a30 for $129.88 and the a3 for $94.88. I believe all get free shipping as well.

Arrghhh.... What to do? I got into impulse buying :-D

Thanks to these threads in these past 2 weeks.

I was able to get:
A35 from Frys for $149.99+tax
A30 from CC for $98.45+tax (price match with Frys)
360 HD add on from CC for $42.85+tax (with coupon)
I'm still debating keeping A35 or A30, but one of it will have to be returned to store by the end of the month. I only get them in order to get 02/28/08 receipt.

and some New Movies from BB:
Ultimate Bourne+Hot Fuzz for $19.99+tax
Shrek+Transformer for $19.99+tax (thinking to return it since I got the HWV deal)

and $14.99+tax B1G1 from HWV
Shrek
Transformer
American Gangster
Beowulf
Elizabeth-Golden Age
Harry Porter-Order of Phoenix
Dreamgirls
Departed
MI-III
We are Marshall
Evan Almighty
Knocked Up

Just checked email and I guess I was lucky because Crutchfield shipped my A35 this mourning. Now what to do with the extra copy of 300, I guess I'll either trade or sell it.

HD A35 @shop NBC is $159.
Sir Lagzalot, what would you trade 300 for? I just bought a 5 month old XA2 on fleabay with 14 movies and Heros Season 1. I was planning on selling or trading most of the movies, the player was shipped today, so it will take at least 5 days to get to me here in Maui, HI.

I see the XA2s on fleabay are going back up in price, I looked at the XA2 as being worth the cost of an OPPO 981 + $10 per movie, in which case I did ok. There was one better deal that I missed, and XA2 with 23 movies for $439 + shipping (which is nearly $40 to us out here in Paradise).

Also, for those interested/desperate, my local Costco had 53 D3's two days ago! I have no idea how they plan to sell all of them out here. The sign reads "Toshiba HD upconverting DVD and HD-DVD player".

Though, there was no A30's and A35's (except 1 A30 on display that i didn't ask about), but they did have one open box A3 and one brand new one left this morning at about 10:15 am

Consider yourself very lucky. I just spent a half hour at the Wetmore store. They didn't have any new A-3's on the shelf, but they have 18 of them up high in the overflow area. So I get an A-3 and head to customer service for the price match. First they say they don't price match to Sam's Club. So I explain that earlier today they price matched and I spoke to a manager who agreed to do it. All they had to do was have one of the CSR's call Sam's Club to verify the price. She calls and after about a ten minute wait she comes back with, "the price of their D-3 is $128.66. I said, "What!" So I went out to my car and called Sam's Club. I spoke to a guy in electronics who said the price is $128.66. I asked him to ring it up to verify and he said the price still comes up as $128.66. So no price match for me. Here's the best part. I get home and my wife says, "Where's the DVD player?" I explained that I couldn't get the price match so I didn't buy it. Then she says, "Why didn't you just pay full price?"

I'm seeing the A3 at that price, not the A35. Can you give us a SKU or item number to enter the item you are seeing?

Ehhh... sorry... that was me that snagged the $439 deal. All's fair in "BID and war"

By the way, marsheng, welcome to the forum!

Dick,

I put in a lowball bid at $411.11, and when I saw it go for $439 I consoled myself with the fact that the buyer was probably bidding a lot higher, and outside of my 'formula'.

And thanks for the welcome, I have been lurking for months trying to educate myself, and this forum has been invaluable. To think, I almost bought a low spec. BluRay player before I decided to get all the facts! I was annoyed with myself for not getting one of the Fry's $99 A30s, that would have been $130 delivered, and they were down to $120 odd delivered from Amazon. However, all is well that ends well, and I really wanted an XA2.

The marketing of these players seems a little strange to me, I would have thought that prices would have held steady until after the 5 free movie offer expired. It should be open season now, but prices are firming for the higher spec. players. The same thing happened when I was building my last computer, the desirable Opteron Dual Core 939 chips were discounted to a point, then got very expensive because they were only available on fleabay. Then they just disappeared, but I got lucky because I kept looking. I expect that to happen with the A30s and A35s etc., I think the A3s will hang around longer.

Gotta love "formulas." Esp with spousal approval!

...and my highest bid was $440...

I'll PM you in regards to 300.

Heh. I think I hold the record for the cheapest XA2 thus far: XA2 + 5 movies for $91 shipped.

$440, S H one T! There is no spouse to 'worry' me, I should have picked $444.44! Of course, in 6 months my 'formula' may look really stupid, or really smart! Once the XA2s are sold out I think they will be with happy owners and not start to surface again until BluRay catches up. There were 56 on fleabay a few days ago, now down to 17.

I bet we see the Onkyo 805s trickle on ebay from Kansas. I asked the seller of the only one on fleabay if he was the person who bought the last 10 units from Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City for $159 each . . . . no reply = yes?

Maybe its time to sell my Multi-system Betamax Hi-Fi player?

p.s. Never mind the HD wars, we should start a revolution to get PAL rather than NTSC!

For those searching for bargain players....dont forget the A2. IMO, value to build to quality to longevity (important for us with HD DVD dying out) I think it is the "best" player for the price. You can get them on ebay for 60-70 bucks shipped or Amazon for nearly that price. Now, I'm a source you can trust, I have owned EVERY second gen and later player, except the Integra 8.8 (all 3 of you ). Although the A35 and XA2 are "better" players, for 100-300 less, built like a tank, flawless playback (in my case), can play even hard-to-read discs (like Enemy at the Gates, which CANT be played on Gen 3 players), can output DTS 1.5 mbps over optical (the ONLY player that will do that), the A2 cannot be beat. I'd take it over an A3 ANYDAY. As I said look on ebay or Amazon Marketplace and you can get one for a steal.

There always has to be 'one' who gets the best deal, and it is nice to hit the market buying at the bottom! Well done, a sold-broken one just sold on fleabay for $83.22, and one sold today with no remote for $281.56! Those new Onkyo 805s for $159 were the best deals IMO. Now we just have to see the movie prices come down.

I have a feeling the D3s in Costco over here will be $30 in a month because I just don't see them selling, even at $79.99, even when the upconverting players are selling for more.

Check your local Wal-Marts. Austin and Cedar Park, Tx stores have marked down the A3 to $74.98

My A3 (when I owned one) booted up at just about the same speed as my XA2. I really couldnt tell a difference. Oh, and $30 at Best Buy? LOL, try more like $100+...I actually saw an HDMI cable at BB for $200!!

So really its like buying an HDMI cable with a free HD DVD player and two HD DVD's!!!!!!!!!
Yes I suppose you could goto Best Buy, show your wife the price of an HDMI cable there, then go get the deal at Sam's Club and use that logic to justify your purchase.

A true case of YMMV. I called my local stores here in SC. The A2 was $198 and the A3 was $298 I asked them to scan them to be sure.
