No special deals posted at Target.com, but I did notice that they now have the A30 and A35 online, in addition to the Venturer. It will be interesting to see if they try to get in on some of the HD DVD love going around right now.

I just checked Oakland Sears and they have no A2's in the building. The sales guy said they had a stack of them yesterday.

Tiger Direct has them listed for $249

Darn It! I was planning to be there at 10 am this morning but we had a major software upgrade last night and I had to be here this morning to handle any fallout. I was just getting ready to head over to Sears. At least I saved myself the gas.

I am almost starting to wonder if it might be worth it to wait until the "and free HD DVD movies" deals are done. I just can't help but to think the "free" movies are somehow incorporated into the price of the HD DVD player, and if there is no "free movie" deal, the player would be cheaper.

I know it's only a matter of time until I buy an HD DVD Player (hoping for the Toshiba HD-A2), but I really am patient and can wait for another great deal.

I was like you waiting for the better deal. I got mine at Wal Mart for $99.00 and I sent off for my 5 free movies.

My guess is that you will not see them get cheaper than $100.00 for a long time but, you will see them make improvements in picture quality.

So far, they've just extended the endpoint timeline for the 5-free discs. If you decide to do this, you may be waiting a long time!

Instead of having an "HD DVD Player Special Deals" stickied in the HD DVD and Blu-ray forums, which can often gets jumbled into one messy thread which relatively few seem to like, should AVS create new individual "HD DVD Software and Hardware Deals" and "Blu-ray Software and Hardware Deals" forums where posters can openly submit and discuss special buys, discounts or any other deals we come across and would like to share? I found a demo A2 at the Sears in Antioch, CA. They sold it to me for $84. No remote but I have another new sealed in box unit coming at the end of the week. I'll get the 5 free DVD's with that one. I've got two URC learning remotes so that'll be no problem for me to teach it all the commands if there is no preprogrammed code.

Mfr date is Feb 2007.

They had one more display model left with a Dec 2006 mfr date w/o remote. I have no idea why they don't store the remotes and manuals in a safe place.

No A3's at all in this location. Wish I could have made it to Sears in Oakland for the NIB A2's but work got in the way. Oh well.

Just got my NiB A2 from Sears (So. CA) for $98 less 10% since it was last floor sample. The only problem is that they did not have the box with the UPC code so not eligible to get the 5 free movies. Anyone have a suggestion to get the free movies w/o the UPC off the box.

I walked away from an HD-A3 for $190.00 from sears. Was I wrong?

Yesterday, I went to a few sears looking for the $98.00 HD-A2. All of the locations had them in their system at $98.00, but had none in stock. One location however, showed 3 in stock. So I paid for it and was told to go to merch pick up. When I did, I was told that one couldn't be found. I got a refund.

I went back at night thinking that a different crew might help. Same story; in the system, but none to be had. The salesman attempted to get me the HD-A3 for the A2 price of $98.00 but needed a managers' approval. She said that it was too big of a price difference (HD-A3 was 279.99) but offered to meet me halfway and split the difference and take $90.00 off. After considering it, I declined and walked away.

The main reason, other than your favorable reviews, I wanted the HD-A2 at $98.00 is that if blu-ray becomes the standard, I would basically end up with a really good 98.00 dvd player with a handful of hd titles.

I'm not big on black friday/crazed I walked away from an HD-A3 for $190.00 from sears. Was I wrong?

If it goes on sale for $169 like it's supposed to on BF, after tax you are over $180. Is it worth $10 to not get up at 4am the day after Thanksgiving?

And, it really depends on how much you want the player and when you want it. There is a chance there'll be another $99 sale for A2 or A3 before holidays, so you could score a good deal and then the waiting would've been worth it. I don't think that's a "regret deal" you passed up, so no, I don't think you were crazy. I'm pretty sure something at least comparable will come up again soon.

Too much A2/A3 talk here Any other good deals (sub $200) HD-DVD players from other manufacturers? I am not too crazy about the Toshiba's based on some of the issues and design aspects reported in numerous threads.

I myuself have searched and found nothing. Why are the only deals from Toshiba? confused!
