There don't seem to be many deals on ebay at all for things that are being sought after, like HD DVD movies and higher end HD DVD players (A35,XA2). $299 (ubid.com) is the most I'll pay for a second XA2, and I agree with you on the movie auctions as well. Some people are paying way more than retail for used discs. Amazon marketplace is where I've found better deals on used discs, or half .com If it's an obscure title with low demand, like the mail in freebie choice titles, you may find a good deal, but for a new release or something only a few weeks old, forget it. I'm a sniper, LOL, and I've been outsniped a lot lately by people paying way more than they should have.

I bought 1 from ubid for $299, but I had to pay $35 for shipping and $25 for tax. I was expected for high shipping cost, but not in tax. For those that are looking to buy from ubid, check your state tax and prepare for high shipping cost. It came from CED, packed with Toshiba box and "Reburbished Stock B" on the box. The manual and remote are included. On the top front of the unit, the paint is worn out. The rest of the unit looks great. It works great, no problem at all. Ubid also offer extended warranty. Gook luck hunting!

I stopped by a local Circuit City yesterday and got really excited when I saw that they had a demo XA2 for sale. Until I saw the price, $649. I tried to talk the sales person down on the price but no go. He claims that they just marked it down on Saturday from $899, so it has to sit there for awhile before they reduce the price again. I guess I'll be stopping by this location from time to time.

Update: Decided to call this CC store this morning. Asked the person to scan it and tell me what the price was. She said $157. I asked for the XA2 and she said yes. I asked her to hold it for me and I was there in 15 minutes. When I got there, she asked who did I speak with yesterday and did they scan. She said that they wanted to get rid of all of their remaining HD DVD players and was surprised that the person from yesterday did not try to help me more. No remote, cables, or manual but that's okay.

I think all the stores are now including Amazon are trying to squeeze every penny they can out of HD DVD while they can.I looked just for fun at the BB trade in and just started laughing 250 for my XA2 and over 60 movies no thats never going to happen.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I don't know how my local CC store even stays in business. Drive by WorstBuy and there are always 200 cars in the parking lot. Drive by CC and there are 20. I haven't even been in the store in over a year. Maybe I'll check it out again next week for this new 50% off sale.

If anyone's interested, I received my refurb HD-A2 from TigerDirect last week. The unit arrived in excellent condition and looks like new. I've watched several movies so far and the playback has been flawless.

This is replacing my A1 and I've been very happy with the improved performance. The remote is also considerably better designed.

I feel it was a great pickup at $60!

It's like another world on eBay. Prices are still way too high. I guess posting feedback is more important to these people than getting the best deal.

Ebay isn't really a discount site - people go there cause they like it, like people who go to Best Buy. People will pay more on ebay than they would an anonymous internet vendor.

If anyone wants a new A35, the Brentwood, CA Best Buy still had one new in box for $149. Don't know how much longer it will be there though. I ran into the lady who does the Blu Ray and HD DVD display and she said she would be taking away all the HD-DVD movies on Wednesday to make more room for Blu Ray disc. I asked her why hasn't BB discounted the HD-DVD movies more than 30% if this was the last day? She said she didn't know and it didn't make much sense to her either. She thought they should be 50-75% off by now.

That is a KILLER DEAL. The 805 is AWESOME, just like the XA2. They are pretty much "clones" of each other. However, the Onkyo seems to have a lot less reports of problems than the XA2. It is definately considered to be the best HD player ever made.
If you can get anther at that price, PLEASE PM me, I will pay extra for your trouble.

You've already got all the HD players that you need. You do not want the Onkyo HD player. This is not the player you are looking for.

I'll second this. A little OT, but I sold a set of Kitchenaid Mixer attachments NIB that we got for Christmas one year. It retailed on Amazon for around $95, a fact that I even posted in my eBay listing. It ended up selling for about $140.

Thanks for th heads up.

It is quite easy to buy them and have BB ship to your address.

Call up the Customer svc desk and have them get a unit (A30 or A35) from the floor. Have them tell you the price + tax + shipping to you. When they say they cannot accept a CC over the phone, just tell them you will pay using a "BB Gift card".
Again have them ring it up for you as a delivery and then go to your nearest BB and purchase a gift card for that specific amount. Call the store with the player you want (already on hold for you) and give them the gift card #. Clerk rings it up and it is yours. Now all the have to do is have UPS pick it up and deliver to you (you included shipping on thye gift card).

2 things, 1) it helps to have a rewards acc already set up (for shipping ) and 2) be poilite, the person on the floor is doing you a favor. and 3) YMMV so if one floor person balks, call back later anf try again, 5) the folks at the customer service desk are more apt to help you than the guys in Home Theater dept. Again, be polite and you will snag the player.

If any kind AVSer sees an HD DVD player in a BB, please mention it here, time date, location of store and a contact name.

Thanks !

I'm wondering why you even stopped to think about it. Nab that sucker!
I went by two Best Buys and they don't seem to have any players left, not even open box. One CCity had some for the same price you see online, except that they were selling the A20 for about $93. I am wondering if I should have picked that up. The other CCity said that they sent all of their players back, including any open box returns.

I thought about ordering online from TD, but with $15 shipping, that turns $60 into $75 and then they add tax... Still a good deal?

I'd like to get something that I could use as a normal upscaling DVD player and give me a backup HD DVD capability. Am I just getting caught up in the fire-sale frenzy? :-)

And, yeah, I try to avoid eBay unless it's something I can't find anywhere else. And as long as it's not currently popular or really collectable. Heh.
