Yep. I learned the hard way. But there are a couple of process on the 200 owner's thread that has helped some ppl get the 10-12% coupon to work.

On another note: Get the BH200 if you want to prep for BR. Playing back to back movies & using visual memory there are no differences between the 2 formats for sure.
The BH200 loads faster for all formats. & everything responds quicker with the LG.

That said, it seems the picture is - dare I say - softer for both format than on an oem Tosh HD player.
But it is a compromise machine & maybe just some tweaks I need to do still to get it just right.
Linked via HDMI here.

bring on Iron Man & Dark Knight.

I think it would helpful to everyone reading this thread - when providing opinions on the BH200 - to clearly state what video connection you're using(HDMI, Component, etc). It has been my observation that component video will always be softer then HDMI/DVI. The signal gotta go from digital to analog in the device, and then back to digital in the display. To me, that usually translates into a softer picture. Of course, some ppl may prefer that over a pure digital link, but it's a little unfair to critique the output of the BH200 - or for that matter any hi-def source video device without stating the connection being used. Those two are obviously the popular choices today, but IMO are vastly different in how the quality of the video is ultimately viewed. And I'm not necessarily talking to those lucky individuals who have hi-priced video processors in their video chain. Just a simple BD to Hi-def TV, or monitor.

That's enough to change my mind...

Thanks.

I got my 805 today from the Labor Day sale and it is also a true refurb. Plain brown box with white refurb sticker. I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet, but it looks brand new. This is my fourth refurb purchase from shop onkyo (receivers and cd changers previously) and so far, I have never been disappointed with the condition of these units. Nothing looks "re-wrapped."

You make a good point. I ordered a few identical HDMI cables from Monoprice that arrived today. I'm going to retest the LG next week.

BTW, I've read a number of equipment reviews where the reviewer got better results over component. I always check component and HDMI when I test.

Well, since this is the place to tell how to get the best bargains, would you mind sharing HOW you got the player for $250?
THANKS
I somehow managed to get about 70 HD DVD's, amidst the deal hunting I couldn't help but think I was missing something.. oh yaaa I forgot to get a player!

Can any Canadian direct me to some type of online/in-store deal? I missed the boat on the venturer HD-DVD players @ Wal-mart and passed up on a bunch of American deals.. with duties and the exchange rate a bit higher I can't seem to find something I feel is reasonable for a dead format

THANKS

Luck, I guess. I just took the player to the cashier where it rang up at $399. I told her it was $339 online and had my print out for her to verify, but she didn't even look. I then gave her the 12% off coupon. She had to call the manager for an override. I then showed her the back to school GC coupon (found out about it from the owners thread) and she scanned it. It did not apply. I said that was OK and that I wasn't sure that they would stack anyway. She called the manager again. The manager tried to get the code to work and when it didn't she just threw a price adjustment on it overriding the 12% and all. I did have to buy a $25 GC which is not a big deal. I'm sure that there will be something a can use for in the next few months. Either that or it will make a nice gift.

Wow, there are complaints all over the Internet about these guys.

Definately DO NOT order from them. In fact, the link should be removed from this thread in order to protect the gullible.

i think i put up the first listing of it. it wasn't an actual link, tho.

it is now deleted. but may still be in others 'quotes'.

I have found that no matter what hi-def source I use, whether HD-DVD, BD, or my SA8300HD, when using component I can tell a big difference in the PQ. Component is much softer and the colors seem to blend together at the edges, where as, HDMI always provides an eye-popping picture with much more brilliant colors and clarity. I have very discerning ears and eyes, and can even tell the difference between 720p and 1080. It may be slight to many ppl, but for me a pure digital link is my preferred connection.

And BTW, the BH200 does an exception job on Blu discs. The player does take a few seconds to determine what type of disc it is, but does eventually 'lock-on'. The menus on HD-DVDs seem very sluggish, but I didn't really buy it for HD playback. I have an XA2 for that. Jury still out on SD disc upscaling though.

How does the quality of the SHD7000 compare to its equivalent Toshiba player?

On that note, what Toshiba player is this equivalent to?
A3...

Would it be better to buy an A3 off of eBay or buy this Venturer drive off Buy.com?
With Buy.com, you should have a warranty on a brand new unit, and the option to send it back if it's damaged or DOA... maybe not with Ebay.
Put it this way...I just bought one off Buy.com after seeing what is available on eBay and the final prices + shipping...I think the SHD7000 is a great deal...

yep, you can at least return it if it is inop. The bigger question is how long the warranty is? I used My AMX card so I am covered maybe! LOL

BTW/ I noticed that BB was closing out their Samsung 5000's for $479 last week! Not!

Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked is because I currently have an Xbox360 HD-DVD add-on, and I was wondering if the Venturer is worth the upgrade for better audio handling capabilities. If I am not mistaken (which is entirely possible), after looking at the manual for the Venturer, it seems that the player is capable of decoding TrueHD and outputting PCM via HDMI, but not of bitstreaming said audio codec (just like the A3).

If that's true, then I know the Venturer will give me better audio quality than my 360 add-on, but what about the video capabilities? How does the Venturer fare against the add-on with respect to HD-DVD movie video quality and SD-DVD upconverting capabilities?

Also, what is the power-on/loading time like on the Venturer?

Thanks in advance.
Well the shd7000 is identical to the A3 sans a pause and FF/Rew button on the front panel...but who cares??? The remote has those buttons so its all good...

From what I've read the A3 is better than the add on...So logically the shd7000 should also be better...I would also say the start up time is about the same as the A3...The A3 is what was my 1st player and it wasn't bad...I don't know about the add-on since I never had one...

Got the e-mail regarding the SHD7000 with 300 and Bourne Identity last week, and immediately pulled the trigger. I've been a BR guy up til now, but couldn't pass this up.

Has anyone else ordered this? Has your order shipped? My order is now a week old, and still says "In process of shipping" (which it has said for 4 days). I sent Buy.com an e-mail, but haven't heard back yet. I have ordered from Buy several times in the past, and I know they are a little slow, but my orders usually ship within a week.

I want to start ordering discs now, while I'm finding some good deals, but don't want to get stuck with a bunch of discs I can't watch if they run out of players and my order gets cancelled.
We understand that the delivery of your order is taking longer than
expected. This is because item #209113404 (High-Definition DVD Player)
from your order is currently listed as "In Stock Soon: Usually Ships in
3 to 5 business days" on the website.

We will ship you the order as soon as it is available. The expected
release date for this item is on or around 09/15/08. You will receive an
email from us once it does ship.

We thank you for your patience in the matter.
