So I have no idea how likely it is that ANYONE will find one of these, but I picked up a used XBOX 360 HD-DVD add-on from Game Crazy for $18 tonight. No King Kong, but the remote (even though I don't have an XBOX) and all cables/manuals did come with the unit. If anyone doesn't know, Game Crazy is owned by Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video and the store that I went to (In Columbia, MO) was connected to a Hollywood Video. This might be worth a call to any of you with Game Crazy stores nearby.

Tried one store near me and they didn't have any. Were there a lot of them?

If you were talking to me, no, they had a grand total of 1 in stock.....I'm guessing this was one of the few left in the entire company's inventory, but I figured it was at least worth a call.

Fry's dropped the price for today only to $28.99. It says it's sold out online though. I went back today to get a price match since I paid $40 for mine <1 month ago.

I found a Toshiba HD-A3 from Wal-Mart on "Black Friday". The shelf price was $74.99 but a sticker on the box--and the ring-up price--was $59. It was new in the box and included "300" and "The Bourne Identity" HD-DVDs.

It is my first HD DVD player and I'm impressed so far. My only other stand-alone player I've owned is a Mintek DVD-2110, which I got in Nov. 2001. The Mintek has started to act crazy every now and again so I was looking for a cheap, local upconverting replacement. So far I'm pretty glad I found the A3.

Both my HDTVs are 30" CRTs that only support 1080i so the A3 is a perfect fit for them.

I'm glad I didn't spent three times as much on a Blu-Ray Player yet as it probably would have only been used to upconvert DVDs for awhile.

I just noticed that on another site a mention of http://sellout.woot.com having the Venturer SHD7000 HD DVD player for $50 with shipping.

Jist noticed that too. Comes with 2 random movies as well. I love reading comments when they have these things on there. Folks get so confused.

Well, the wife got me a HD-A30 off of Ebay in box, with two random HD DVDs shipped for around $50. I guess I should go into Circuit city and laugh at them now.

The player arrived last night, and it was a brand new one! Came with 300 and Bourne Identity, so I guess I need to see if I can sell/trade those off to anyone.

I tested it lat night, and it worked very well. It upscaled a lot better than my PS3 and the quality of the HD DVD I tested was superb! My only complaint is the lag time it has between when I press a button on the remote and when it starts to do the action and when I try seeking back and forth or skipping to another chapter.

Update to at least 3.0 and that will take care of your issues...Congrats again!!!

I second that - I would really like to pick one up, too. But it's gotta be cheap!
